Detectives have a unique way o' sayin things. And if ya don' understand my barbering, I symptathize. It's relatively simple to figure out equalizers, dames, and boot-tracers, but Tomatoes, roscoes, and marbles might be a tad more nebulous. So I set up this bit here to be a Detective Jargon mainstay. Here's a box wherein ya can come 'n practice your slang, inquire as to what others are sayin', or else come in and show off your inspiring knowledge, ya wisefellow.

My hopeful translation into stereotypical english speaking.

We detective sorts have a unique way of communicating. If you do not understand my slang, I sympathize. It is easy to work out some forms of my sland, but others may confuse and perplex you. So I set up this threat to be a translation hub. Here is a thread where you may practise your detective slang, work out what other detectives are saying, or perhaps attempt to impress us with your own knowledge of detective slang.

That'd be it. I placed that one in fairly simple slang, I didn't bust into anything as extreme as :

"You dumb mug, get your mitts off the marbles before I stuff that mud-pipe down your mush--and tell your moll to hand over the mazuma."

Because, yes, I do want the chaps to understand what I say. I just love my slang too much to lay it out lame.

In the business, a sister's got to have a good nut on her frame. Or a good reference. See a gal's got to know if her man's playin' for keeps or just after her gams. This dame vouches for the OED. A bolt from the blue- it's up on it's shamus slang.
(For those without an OED, OED = Oxford English Dictionary. I only know because I heard it said, and I looked up that abbreviation in my OED. That made me feel dumb.)
