His heart was bouncing about in it's chest. The uproarous excitement in his mind screamed 'tell her' but, he wanted to wait and see her reactions as she went through discovering pregnancy as life toddled it's way through the body it inhabited. "You'd like groundhog?" He stated, tail wagging and body shivering in a puppy-like fashion, he hadn't been this happy in such a long time. "The groundhog it shall be!" He was about to dash off and have her follow in his crazy ways when she seemed to falter a bit and then lay down. "You're alright?" He asked with a bit of a smile. He knew she'd be tired, it wasn't a shocker. "You just stay here love, get some rest. I'll be back before you wake."
He started on his way, on his search for the meal she requested. He'd find two huge plump groundhogs, and they'd be efficient enough he'd guess for a least a little. But, on his search he was rudely interrupted. Two legs appeared out of no where as he began to gaze up. A two-legged. He became cross very fast and anger struck him hard. He was not fond of these creatures at all. He'd rather be locked away and tossed to the sea. His first instinct told him growl, his second said run to El and third said bite. they human extended his arm and the third intsinct took hold and Kael didn't know it til the blood ran down his chin. With this the human swore and pulled back, then Kael took to his paws to get him away.
In moments an engined roared to life and he was being followed. He clued in then that it was a dog-catcher and fear enveloped him quite nicely as he ran. El.. was his final thoughts before his paw catches a rather large stone and he sprawls to the ground. The van comes at him full speed intending to hit him. This would not be his fate, he moved enough that he was okay and went to stand but, slipped and his paw was stuck out just as the van drove by and CRUNCH. His paw snapped neatly in two, the skin was still in tact but, there was no way he could use it. He bit back a howl of pain and with his luck the van drove off wanting nothing more to do with him.
He groaned as he got up and knew that within the last hour or so of this going down El would be up, alone and hungry. He wanted to cry desperately but, knew he had bigger concerns, finding his way back, getting food and hiding this wound. It'd be hard with not being able to stand on it. He set it down very lightly and found that the break was infact bad but, the bone was still aligned. He had found some luck again in this minor tragedy. He'd get over it.

Elaxi began to stir, she looked up at the sky and realized that the sun was beginning to get low in the sky. She glanced around her expecting that Kael would have been back by now. He was usually a fast hunter, and she didn't understand why he wouldn't be back yet.
She stretched and rose to her feet, she began to sniff the ground around her trying to locate where Kael was. The only trace of him she could find was the faint smell of where he had been before he left to find food for them. She began to pace around, she was concerned that he had changed his mind, perhaps he had decided he didn't want to be with her.
Her mind began to race, why would he decide to leave her, had last night not been something special to him. She felt her breathing rate increase, her heart started pounding. What had happened why was she alone, had he left for good. El sat down slightly defeated she didn't know what was happening with Kael much less what was going on with in her own body.

He got up completely, bones grinding in his broken paw causing him to cry out loudly. He was alone still and so was he true love. "El!" He shouts loudly and barks even louder. Moments after silence he begins howling and whimpering. He'd never been hurt this bad. Those darn humans had gotten the best of him and he was sure they'd be back if they knew how badly he was hurt. He needed El and needed to be away. He still needed to get them food. The stress was building up in his mind.

El was almost lost in her despair over Kael being gone, when she heard the howl, she recognized it, it was he Kael. She began to try to follow the faint trail that Kael had left behind when he went to get food. It was somewhat challenged to follow as the trail was a little old and other animals had since passed over it. But with the added help of Kael's howl it wasn't more then an hour when Kael was with in El's view.
El took of running to get to his side, she was still feeling a little sore from the night before, but she ignored that as he ran to his side. "Kael what happened are you ok, she scanned his body quickly, she had never been injured herself, but it wasn't hard to tell that he had been injured." She began to kiss his cheek overjoyed that she had been able to find him and that he was mostly OK.

Oh the sweet joy of seeing that muzzle of hers pop into view nearly cured the stinging in his paw. But, a sharp twang proved that even seeing her could heal nothing. He sighed softly and accepted the gentle cheek lickings, 'kisses'. "I'm so sorry El." He whimpered as if a puppy. "I'm so so sorry." He said again and lowered his head, his paw was nothing to him. She'd woken up alone, scared, upset or anything. He could feel how excited she was and put two and two together. "I didn't mean to be gone so long." Then anger flared brightly in his heart echoing that of the pain and he moaned softly. "Humans." He huffed and gritted his teeth. "We've got to leave here m'dear, they may be back to have a second go. And I won't have you get in the middle of that." He growled again, the humans blood still fresh on his jaws.
He got up again from his collapsed and fragile state. He had been near tears just moments before and then remembering the pups she carried he couldn't hold them here any longer. "For the pups." He mumbled without thinking and gave into a slight run. "Follow!" He shouted grimacing horribly. He wouldn't be able to hold his run for long and he still needed to find food for them. A shelter came first though. They needed protection.

El wasn't sure that he should be running but she didn't want to object he meant business, so she followed behind him. She had heard him mumble something before he started running but figured it was something to do with humans, oh how he hated humans.
It wasn't a far run till Kael found them shelter, it was amazing how talented he was, she thought. Once into the small cave like area, El did her best to make Kael comfortable. She knew enough that Kael was in no condition for hunting, the thought of food made her stomach rumble. "Kael you stay here and rest, I can get us some food, it wont be anything fancy just some rabbits, I don't want you to use that foot just yet, give it time to heal." She said sweetly, she wasn't sure how Kael would take this suggestion, as he was so fond of taking care of here, but she wouldn't take no for an answer.

It wasn't a long run to safety. There it was a shelter from his puppy-hood. He nearly wept in relief at seeing it still in tact and shelter like. He sighed heavily and collapsed inside. Once comfortable enough to not wince he groaned, his stomach growled. It was moment later that he heard El's do the same and he looked away. He'd failed. Whether he was hurt or not he'd failed them both. His survival wasn't necessary though. "But, what if you and the.. you get hurt?" He stumbled across his words and glanced up at her, his eye's held a glint of fury at not being able to support their family but, the glint was there a moment before filling with worry.
Not only could he not get food he couldn't defend them if they needed. He was left immobile and useless. That nearly made him break down and cry right there in front of his mate. He looked away from her and sighed then flopped his useless head to the ground and closed his eye's.

Her eyes softened when she saw how upset Kael was, "Hun you don't have to worry about me, I hunted before you came and managed to feed myself just fine. I will just get us something simple, how does rabbit sound to you she asked?"
She knew Kael liked to be the provider and take care of her, however she knew right now he needed to rest, and she didn't mind taking care of him. In attempt to make him feel better she attempted a joke, "Come one now don't be sad, the only thing that will change is tonight we wont be able to have the same fun we had last night." She nudged him lightly as she said this.

Kael smiled lightly not moving his head. his eyes also remained closed but, instead of sulking he was picturing their family. "Hey El.." He started to her. He was curious. Would she even wan to have the pups with him. Was he worth it? Would he be a good Dad to them. He had worried about these things but, tried not to think on it.
"Would.. Would you be willing to start a family with me?" He paused, finally opening his eyes and looking at her. He knew he was asking a lot but, by now they had no choice unless she wanted to leave.

El thought his question was kinda odd but smiled and answered "Of course I would love but for now I am going to go and find us something to eat." She gave him a quick kiss and a smile. She slipped out through the door and wen on to hunt.
