Has anyone thought about it much? =D
Whenever a book series that you favor are made into a omnibus( a few of the volumes combined into one book) is it better than buying the volumes individually or that way? Which do you feel is better?
I personally like both. In fact I have a omnibus of a series since it includes the volumes that I don't have.

I like both as well. An Omnibus is really convenient when you get into a series midway or close to the end and you need to catch up. But there's something to collecting each volume separately as well.

Hm. I was not familiar with that term.
I sort of prefer to have books in seperate volumes, if for nothing else, size and weight issues. Of course, when it comes to comics and manga, I prefer to have the graphic novel rather than the individual issues for reasons of convenience. I suppose an omnibus would be helpful in a situation where it was difficult to collect all of the individual volumes (I would have bought one for Pearl S. Buck's Good Earth series if I could have).

When I read Buck's Good Earth it was in an omnibus-like edition. I don't think it had the title "omnibus" anywhere as it was a really old volume, but it was all together.

I had a series I read to death so much that the individual paperback volumes started falling apart. When my book club came out with the hard-cover omnibus (5 books in 2) I was so happy. I get omnibuses from the Sci-fi Book club (sfbc.com) and complete my collections a lot quicker. It's especially cool when they sell three omnibuses as a set... and then they have a sale where you buy 1 get 1 free... and then you buy the three omnibus set (like 9 books in 3 for only $15!) and you get another three omnibus set free. That's like 18 books for $15!!!! Not even a dollar a book! In other words... I love omnibuses... especially in book clubs... rofl

I tend to dislike them, 'cause their usually to big to read comfortably. Especially something like the LOTR. I once borrowed an omnibus edition of that and it was nearly impossible to read.

They're cumbersome, but sometimes it's cheaper to buy the omnibus. So you sort of have to consider comfort versus expense on a case-by-case basis.
