I like what they're releasing, but there's one point that kinda surprises me...

No trenchworks. I know you can get the trench sections from FW, but if you're putting together a defensive bastion in this game, you'd almost expect some huge earthworks outside the walls...

The aegis defence line is the trench stand in, as trenches require dedicated gaming boards with cut out sections for the trenches. The aegis can be linked together to form a flexible line.

The Chaos Bastion and the Trap Markers look like crap. First year hobby enthusiast could've sculpted them better.
The rest is nice, but probably hugely over-priced. Sad thing is, you can get pretty similar offerings from other companies for half the price, usually. Granted, they don't have an aquila on them, but it's still cheaper to get some brass etchings from FW and put them on the third party buildings than buying the plastic from GW.

Question: How does a marine without a jump pack get on top of that aquila shrine when there are no stairs? If he teleported on there, who put the beacon on top and where is it?

That doesn't change anything about my opinion that, on those pictures, the Chaos Bastion looks like diarrhea. Or were you trying to contend something else?

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the people building the models for the GW photos are either inept or just don't care anymore.

check out the front corner of the chaos bastion....

As far as the markers and such go, buy ArmorCast or make your own. It's not that difficult... the only thing I can even vaguely justify buying here are the buildings (I loke plastic buildings, they thend to be quite durable and a lot easier to convert with), and MAYBE the vacuformed craters (craters are easy, but time consuming...).

Just to share a little bit, a (batshit insane) guy at the local gaming store cut and modeled one of those chaos bastions from styrofoam entirely (only adding a little putty here and there in addition to brass etched or improvised icons). It has two (removable) entrances/gates and magnetized weapon slots. The top is also removable, but the chaos icons and spikes are permanently fixed.
If he takes some pictures, I will link to them when I get the chance.
