Hey guys. I have to write a fairy tale for my therapy class. It's due Sunday. (that's right. I have class all day Sat. and Sun. this week! lame...) I just need to figure out what sort of base I should have. I just can't think of anything other than all the ones I've read! Any ideas on what I should write?

i heart fairy tales xD
After watching disney reruns (sadly emo ) it needs a dramatic climax, romance and a turn around ending with once upon a time and happily ever after

That sounds like a fun project... Does it have to be completely original? I would take experiences though maybe..

All we were told was that it has to go: beginning, middle, trouble, magic, end. Basically think of all the classics. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc. I want something at least a little original, but it seems like everything has been done. I've sort of been thinking of something modern. Like, the evil stepmother figure is an alcoholic and (since I hate the idea of a girl being swept away by a 'prince' figure) perhaps 'princess' rescues herself by leaving home, running into problems, fortune (magic), and lives happily ever after?

Your idea sounds good. Maybe the magic could come from her eating a fortune cookie and the fortune tells her something, and it ties everything together in the end. : D

...But we must wait for the opportunity to fly...

It's nothing fantastical, but I'm pleased with how it turned out! The fortune cookie didn't find it's way in, but it did inspire a fortune teller!

Fairytale

There once was a young woman who lived with her father and her somewhat disagreeable step-mother. She had finished college, but, to her great dismay, was unable to start a career in her field of choice, art. This was also to the great dismay of her step-mother, who, in a drunken rage, would often shout and threaten to throw her out on the street. In order to appease her step-mother, the young woman got a job at a local shop working long hours from before dawn to long after the sun had set. She saved as much as she could in the hopes of moving into her own space and finding a job doing what she truly loved, drawing.

The young woman was dissatisfied with her job at the local shop but couldn’t find the time to work on her drawings. When she came home, she was exhausted and would try to work on a drawing, but, more often than not, fell asleep with her pencil in hand. She thought that if only she could finish the drawings, she could sell them and be able to make a name for herself.

Then, on the way home from work, the young woman was confronted by an elderly fortune teller. Though dubious of the elderly woman, she was persuaded to sit with her for a moment and have her fortune told. The fortune teller hinted at some of the young woman’s troubles, all of which could have easily been guessed. Just as the young woman was about to leave, scolding herself for accepting the old woman’s invitation, the fortune teller grabbed her hand and held out to her a pencil. She told the young woman that this was no ordinary pencil. It was created by fairies and, as do all things fairy-made, held incredible magic. The young woman took the pencil wearily and stuffed it in her pocket.

It wasn’t until days later that she remembered the pencil. The young woman placed it on her table next to her drawing pad. When she returned from work that night, she sat down again to draw, picking up the pencil and hoping that this night she might be able to finish a drawing. She made the first stroke, picturing in her mind what she was drawing, but instead of that first stroke, the pencil began to drag her hand across the paper, creating exactly the image that was in her mind. Amazed, the young woman rejoiced at the realization that she would finally be able to finish her drawings. Before she fell asleep, one drawing had already been finished. She worked each night, finishing one drawing every night until she had enough to show, hoping someone would purchase even one of her drawings. The local shop agreed to let her put her drawings in the front window and it wasn’t an hour before requests came for her pieces. By the evening, they were all sold and the young woman had made more money from her drawings than she had ever hoped. Before long, she had more drawings displayed and was finally confronted about a job as an illustrator for children’s books. She gratefully accepted and spent the rest of her days drawing beautiful pictures in a place of her very own.

I'm glad you like it! I keep wishing I had more time so I could really research (read fairy tales!) and write more! lol It's kind of a weird feeling considering I'm not an English major and I usually hate writing papers! lol

Really well done Mugoi! Very interesting. It would be nice to have a magical pencil like that. ^_^ It reminded me of a Sailor Moon episode, where the anime artist had a magic pencil that helped her draw flawlessly, when really it was an evil pencil.... sweatdrop yeah, but overall, it was cute! And I'm glad things worked out for the herione!
