So, this is a sort of WIP. I felt inspired to do something after re-reading Neil Gaiman's "The Dream Hunters", illustrated by Yashitaka Amano. If you're not familiar with the story, it's based on a Japanese Fairy Tale about a fox and a monk, and the Dream World.

I was going for a loose, calligraphic kind of style as in the old watercolour paintings. I did the lines in Corel Painter with a dry brush and added a little bit of colour and my own scanned textures in photoshop.

I wanted to incorporate a fox into this but I just can't get the composition right, and every attempt I made looked too "cut and paste". I want it to be a part of the image, not just placed on top.

So, any critique about the piece so far would be greatly appreciated, and any thoughts about where I should take the piece next is also greatly appreciated. My watchers on dA haven't even commented and the other forums are moving very slowly. :c

For what you describe I think you hit it dead on. Very nice work, since you're trying to work a fox in I thought I might suggest incorporating it in the background made up of the same design? It depends on how and where you want it to stand in the piece.

It looks really really nice.
The only thing I can see is the hairline; it's too high
The hair should take up about the top third portion of the head
