If you would like to take my class Care of Magical Creatures, please send me a pm and a 15 word report on your favorite Magical Creature so i can be sure to get a lesson in on your creature. We will have a test once a month and will learn about atleast 4 creatures a month.
We will also have some interactive classes where we will observe a creature in its normal state. The only homework I assign will be a report once a week about the creature we learned about that week.
~Thanks, Head of Slytherin and COMC Class, Laura~

Week 1:
We are learning about the Hippogriff this week. User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Creatures with the body, hind legs, and tail of a horse, but front legs (complete with 6-inch talons), wings (with a 10-foot span), and head of a giant eagle. Feathers on the head and neck change smoothly to hair at the torso. The feathers are multiple colors; stormy gray, bronze, pinkish road, gleaming chestnut, and inky black. Hippogriffs are proud creatures, and easily offended. Always wait for it to make the first move. Walk toward them, bow (keep eye contact - even blinking can be considered untrustworthy), and then wait. If he bows back, he'll let you near him. If not, get away quick or it may attack
Hippogriff's are also very gentle IF you let it approach you first. if it doesnt bow and you approach anyway he will get viscious and will attack. They can be stormy gray, a light orange/pink or anyother color listed above. Some were used in the Battle for Hogwarts. Now do some research of your own and see what new information you can bring me

Week 2:
We are learning about the Dementor's this week:
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Ghost-like creatures that guard Azkaban wizard prison. They also guarded Hogwarts during the '93-'94 school year while on the lookout for Sirius Black. Harry met one on the Hogwarts Express on his way to school, describing it as a cloaked figure with a hand that was glistening, graying, slimy-looking, and scabbed, like something dead that had decayed in water. The figure drew a long, slow, rattling breath, as though it were trying to suck something more than air from its surroundings.
Wherever they go, they bring cold and drain all the hope, peace, and happiness from around them, leaving you with nothing but memories of your worst experiences of your life. They infest the darkest, filthiest places and glory in decay and despair. Even Muggles feel their presense, though they can't see them. If it can, the dementor will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like itself - soul-less and evil. A dementor only lowers its hood to perform the Dementor's Kiss, in which a dementor clamps its jaws upon the mouth of the victim and sucks out his soul.
Towards the end of his third year, Harry saw the head, describing it as having nothing but thin, gray scabbed skin stretched over empty sockets. The mouth was a gaping, shapeless hole, sucking the air with the sound of a death rattle (3:5/10/11/12/20). When they breed, they produce mist that makes everyone around feel miserable (6:1).
Now, lets see what you can find different from this and give me a 20 word report.

Week 3:
This week we're learning about the Basilisk
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Of the many fearsome beasts and monsters that roam our land, there is none more curious or more deadly than the Basilisk, known also as the King of Serpents. This snake, which may reach gigantic size and live many hundreds of years, is born from a chicken's egg, hatched beneath a toad. Its methods of killing are most wondrous, for aside from its deadly and venomous fangs, the Basilisk has a murderous stare, and all who are fixed with the beam of its eye shall suffer instant death. Spiders flee before the Basilisk, for it is their mortal enemy, and the Basilisk flees only from the crowing of the rooster, which is fatal to it (2:16). Basilisk venom only has one, incredibly rare, antidote: phoenix tears.
Now, do some research of your own and see what NEW information you can bring me

I do not believe I will be taking this class (although I might look at your lessons from time to time), but I thought I would share some information on the Basilisk that is in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

The first recorded Basikisk was bred by Herpo the Foul, a Greek Dark Wizard and Parselmouth. Herpo the Foul's Basilisk is believed to have lived for close to nine hundred years. The Basikisk is a brillant green serpent that may reach up to fifty feet in length. The male has a scarlet plue upon its head.
