I wish I could find it now, but I came across a recipe for pudding finger paints not too long ago. They recommended this for younger children because of the likeliness of young children sticking their fingers in their mouth while finger painting.
Needless to say this got me thinking what kind of other fun recipes are there out there? I know when I was growing up my Mom had a recipe for soap bubbles that she found worked better than so many others out there (though if she kept it she's not sure where it is now). Do you have a favorite Salt dough recipe? Have you come across any other fun recipies like this?

these are the ones I remenber

Cookless Playdough

Combine in a large bowl:

2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
1 Tbs. Alum
To this dry mixture, add 2 cups boiling water colored with food dye or liquid water colors. stir until cool. Knead in 3 Tbs. vegetable oil and scent, if desired. A whole lot easier than the cooked stuff, and a great result. Keeps well if stored tightly.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Flubber
Borax (from the supermarket laundry aisle)
Elmer's Glue
Food Coloring or liquid watercolor
Water
One large plastic jar w/screw lid
One cup

Step "A"
Add together;

1/3 cup Elmer's Glue
1/3 cup Water
Food coloring or liquid watercolor
Shake, stir or mix these ingredients until glue dissolves in water

Step "B"
Fill an empty cup with 1/3 cup of water
Slowly pour in 2 tablespoons of borax, allow to settle for a minute. Pour off excess water and discard the water.

Step "C"
Scrape the wet borax "B" into the jar with mix "A", close lid. Shake vigorously until the flubber solidifies and the sides of the jar look clean.

Recipe for Faux Snow
With an electric mixer beat white powdered laundry soap with cold water. Add water gradually to produce a substance that holds together, is not runny, and can pack like a snowball. Use to model snowmen. Add twigs for arms, dried peas for eyes and mouth, thick yarn for a scarf, tiny carrot end, or orange pipe cleaner bit for a nose, acorn top cap. Sprinkle with clear glitter for sparkle. Voila! Frosty sans snow.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To Dye For

Dyed Macaroni for necklaces
or
Dyed rice for the tactile table
or
Dyed craft sticks for projects

Place a couple of handfuls of the object to be dyed into a gallon size zip lock bag. Add a dash of rubbing alcohol and a dash of food color or liquid watercolor. Zip it up and shake until the objects have absorbed the color. Spread out on layers of newspaper to dry.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Goop
.In a large bowl mix together a box of powdered cornstarch with cold water. No specific quantities But.... add the water slowly and STOP exactly when the cornstarch is just barely saturated with water. The consistency should be at a peculiar state of not quite liquid and not quite solid. Provide bowls, slotted and solid spoons, sieves, strawberry baskets and spatulas as play props. Oodles of fun..and easy to clean up after the water dries up and all that's left is dry powder.
