Stormgull was confused. She'd been confused for a little over a week now, since the two leggers had packed her a bag full of freshly preserved meat with her favorite herbs, braided her hair one last time, and set her off on her own. It wasn't what she wanted. But she knew, deep down, that it was what she needed. To be with her own again. She'd started to get a wandering itch nearly two months before, but had decided against any prolonged adventures after she managed to get completely turned around within two days of her first adventure and had been found, wandering around and hungry, barely 200 feet from the campsite during a particularly foggy night. But this was different, right? She had a pack, some food, and had dutifully followed a two legger around for a couple days ahead of time while he pointed at things and made strange noises interspersed with words she knew like "Stormgull," "food," "good," and "bad." She looked around the woods one more time, wondering how long it would take for her to run into a dragon. One of her own kind. A not entirely displeasing but still somewhat disturbing idea.

Magpie slunk through the forest, easing herself through a patch of brambles. The plants snagged on the skin beneath her fur, and little specks of red wormed their way to the surface. Magpie grinned and paused to examine her paw. Pity the scarlet fluid wasn't more visible against her coat... It blended into the red, simply made the purple even more dark, and matted the black into clumps... Still, Magpie's coloring was SO beautiful... She really couldn't stay mad at herself for very long... Magpie needed to find a light colored dragon to draw some blood on. Then it would be visible, all right... Magpie grinned again and continued onward.
The scent of a strange dragon had reached her nostrils just a few minutes ago, and Magpie and her apprentice were now tracking the poor creature that had stumbled into the general area of the 'Nest', Magpie's name for their den.
With any luck, she'd have a light colored coat... Blood Jay followed his master, picking an easier path through the bramble patch. Still, drops of blood speckled his back and legs, and every so often he caught Magpie glancing back, hoping to catch sight of a speck of red on his white markings. Blood Jay shuddered involuntarily and hurried after his master. He hated-- No. He loved blood. Right? He was supposed to... Magpie had made sure that he knew he loved blood... But...
According to her, the reason why he passed out every time he saw more than a drop of blood was because... The euphoria he felt at the sight was more than his young body could handle. And Blood Jay was fairly sure that was true... But still, a feeling of dread occasionally came over him at the thought of blood, which he was forced to stifle as soon as it arose.
He loved blood. But he also hated it--NO. He loved it. He did.
Magpie had assured him that he'd grow out of the whole fainting thing... but Blood Jay still hated-- No. LOVED blood.

What was that? Was she imagining things, or was that the snap of a broken twig? The two-legged ones wouldn't have sent her out if the world was dangerous, right? Right?
Stormgull walked in a tight circle, trying to see everything around her. No sight of predators. Or food. Her stomach growled loudly, but this wasn't the time for a snack. Looking around once more, she caught sight of a tree that had started to fall and landed on it's neighbor. Perfect.
Tree climbing... wasn't exactly encouraged, per say, but the young two-legged ones liked to do it sometimes and so did Stormgull. Now she was glad for all of the practice, all of the yelling and finger-wagging she had endured. Agile as any two-legged child, Stormgull ran up the tilted tree and clambered into the branches of the tree it was leaning against. There, now she could eat some of the dried meat from her pack in peace.

Magpie finally emerged from the extensive patch of brambles, following the scent of the strange dragon. Magpie put her nose to the ground like a bloodhound and followed the scent carefully.
"The dragon walked in circles a few times," Magpie told Blood Jay softly, demonstrating as she whispered. She was teaching him how to track. Because she was a kind dragon, who felt generous enough to let the little one with the blood-colored fur learn under her. " 'Could've done this as some kind of weak evasion tactic, trying to get us to lose her scent..." Magpie sniffed the air. "It didn't work though," she continued, following the strange dragon's smell to a half-fallen tree...
Magpie urged Blood Jay onto the log before her and forced him to walk ahead, testing the weight of the fallen tree. It was plenty strong to hold them. Pity. She'd been half-hoping that Blood Jay would fall and get impaled by a branch or something. Now that would spill some blood...
The tree trunk stopped where it'd been caught by its neighbor. Magpie peered into the other tree (she did NOT squint though. Squinting would mar her beauty) and smiled. She could see the vague shape of a dragon in the branches... And from what she could tell, the dragon was relatively light-colored. Excellent. Maybe this dragon would fall to the ground and be impaled! Oh, that would be wonderful... The only thing better would be if Magpie could inflict the blood-wounds herself...
"Blood Jay," she addressed her young apprentice, "Climb the tree."
Maybe they would both fall. That would be wonderful...
Blood Jay glanced at his guardian in surprise. "Me?" he asked incredulously. He'd never climbed a tree before...
"Yes, you," she snapped before shoving him forward again. Blood Jay swallowed, then took hold of the first branch.

Had she been on the ground, Stormgull would have danced with joy when she saw the other dragons. Two of them! A big one and a little one! Try as she might, however, she couldn't understand a word they said. Her heart sunk within her. Did dragons have no language? Or was it just her, unable to understand her own kind?
Curiously, she watched the larger dragon follow her tracks, watched for the small expressions and gestures she had learned to read out for among the humans. She frowned; yes, there was something about the big dragon that wasn't quite right. Just something about that smile of hers that made Stormgull want to stay in the tree, right where she was. It was familiar, too, like... yes, like that boy that used to pull on her tail when nobody was around, and that big he-goat that was always so big and aggressive and chased her every chance he got. Until she got big enough to defend herself, that was. Yes, she had learned a trick or two from the goat. Now if only the small dragon wasn't in the way...

Blood Jay struggled up the tree, focusing on getting higher and higher, trying to find branches sturdy enough to hold his weight. Halfway between the dragon up in the tree and the log where Magpie waited, a though occured to the small dragon.
"What do I do when I reach her?" he asked with a frown. He wasn't exactly big enough to fight her down from the tree, even with the tricks Magpie had already shown him...
"Hmm..." Magpie contemplated this for a moment. Then her eyes lit up. "Try to break the branches she's standing on, maybe? I don't really care what you do, just get her onto the ground."
"How do I do that?" Blood Jay asked, looking doubtfully at the branches around him. They seemed rather sturdy...
"Like this," Magpie instructed, joyously swinging her tail at a rotted branch sticking out beside her. Part of the branch broke off and fell to the earth, landing with a small thud. The female dragon frowned, studying the doubtful expression on her young ward's face. "Look," she sighed, "If you don't think you can do it, why don't you practice a little before you get to her?"
"Okay," Blood Jay nodded obediently. He took a deep breath, chose a nearby branch, and swung his tail at it with all his might. The branch shook a bit, but did not fall. A thin twig had once been attached to the branch, then been broken off by something, leaving a sharp point on the branch... A sharp point which had scratched against Blood Jay's tail.
Blood Jay turned his head, wincing at the stinging wound, and froze at the sight of blood trickling down through his tail, dripping down into the lower branches...
Magpie scowled as Blood Jay suddenly went limp in the trees. Drat. He was laying in the fork of a branch that seperated out into two limbs, and was in a relatively secure position... Even though he was unconscious, he wouldn't fall... Drat.
There was no other option. Magpie slithered up into the tree herself, swiftly moving from branch to branch, hoping that she wouldn't get any treesap on her lovely fur...

Stormgull was liking the looks of things less and less. The tail whacking display... definitely a sign of aggression. And here she was, corned in a tree and blocked by the small - Stormgull hissed angrily as the young dragon went limp after trying to imitate the adult's display. What was he doing in the tree? So young, an infant... he'd probably been coerced up there by the adult.
With a deep, thunderous growl she had picked up from some of the dogs at the camp, she lunged out of the tree, horns lowered to headbutt the nasty old female. She'd show her!

[this is an open rp right?? Care if I join?] Kellan walked with his head down; partly because of the tiresome day of traveling he had endured and partly due to the fact that he had been listening to Apollo go on for the past few hours. The young dragon seemed to never lose any energy and used it all in talking. Kellan couldn't wait for a chance to nest down for the night, just to get some peace and quite. A sound caught his ears, strange even in this wild forest. He flicked his tail at Apollo, hopeing he could be quiet for even a few minutes. Apollo quickly ended his rantings about how beautiful the forest was and how wonderful life was away from his parents' cave. His own ears picked up the strange sounds. "Dragons?" The annoyed look on Kellan's face answered his question. Silently they walked foreward together, following the sounds of the comotion. Not too far in the distance, Apollo could see what looked like three dragons trying to get up a tree. "What in the world are they doing?" Apollo couldn't help but get excited at the prospect of other dragons, though again Kellan's face warned him not to get too excited.

((I don't mind either. ^^ And, I'm really sorry about my inactiveness, guys. XD ))
Magpie frowned as the strange dragon leaped down from the tree. Had she fallen? No, it definitely looked like she'd meant to jump down... Was she trying to escape? And what was that sound she was making? Was the prey actually trying to intimidate Magpie?!
The thought was enough to bring a smile to Magpie's face, as she too leapt down from the tree. She slipped to the right quickly avoiding the strange dragon's horns easily. She whipped her tail around to collide with the dragon's shoulder as she passed...

[I have no idea whose turn it is. If its mine, sorry it took a while for me to figure it out. If not, oops ><] Apollo stepped foreward, his muscles tensed as a low growl rumbled in his throat. It was taking everything in him to keep from charging foreward, but a disapproving glance from his mentor told him it was not the right time. "We need to help her." Apollo's voice was a comand as much as it was begging. He knew that in his statement he was showing his mentor disrespect but it really didnt matter to him at the moment.
Kellan stared back at his pupil, disapproval clear in his eyes. "We will wait. It would be no use for us to go bursting through the bushes when she might not even need our help at the moment. Wait for the right moment." Kellan sighed deeply, wishing Apollo would get his various lesson on patience. His eyes went from his sulking ward to the dragons they had found. He studied; it was what he was best at. Apollo would be the fighting force of their little group, Kellan would be the brains. "Wait.." He noted the tension still in Apollo.

Stormgull screamed as Magpie's tail hit her shoulder with a thick thunk, but it was mostly a scream of surprise and anger. How dare she! How dare she attack her! Snarling, Stormgull charged Stormgull once more, attempting to headbutt her.
Never mind that if she missed she was going to get tangled up in a bunch of bushes...

Apollo cursed his mentor as he tore through the brush, sprinting towards the small group of fighting dragons. He charged with the small female at the blood colored dragon, growling in his throat. How could his master just sit back and watch?
Kellan had started to run after his pupil, stopping just at the brush line. There he paced back and forth, knowing that this was the best position for him. A small bit of anger in him wished that Apollo would learn his lesson with a good beating, the other side worrying like an old matriarc. His pelt helped to keep him hidden as Kellan mumbled sourly under his breath.
