Well SG, I be back from the dumping ground of the UK, the ever-wonderful Isle of Wight!

Now, I actually love the Isle of Wight. It's a nice place, beautiful view, good fishing, and I have some good family there. However, this year, there were several... Problems with my yearly trip.

1: No internet. Other years this would have been fine, but with my budding e-romance, my increasing net presence and my growing amount of e-friends, such as by good buddy Pip, this was a REAL downer.

2: ******** Guthrie. Now, none of you know who Guthrie is, but he's a friend of my little sister. He drove me ******** NUTS over the week, and when he wasn't bugging me, he was quoting YGO:TAS, or off by himself being anti-social. He drove us all nuts.

3: No. ********. GAMES. I took my Xbox360 and my HDTV down with me this year, as I no longer have a laptop, instead owning my lovely glowing Annabelle. But, alas, we left the disc case with all the games and movies at our house. On the mainland. Which would take all day to get to. So, I was bored as HELL.

4: No goddamn privacy. This isn't too high on my list of worries, but I wouldn't have minded some.

However, despite my moans and gripes, I had a very nice time. I saw some cousins that live down on the island, who I don't see often, and I went fishing. And I caught a ******** Mackerel! And no-one else on our boat of 8 people caught a single thing that day too, so I feel REALLY special. I have a pic of that fish actually, but it's on my dad's cam.

So, that wraps up this post. Next post: HATTIE'S REVIEW OF CORALINE

HATTIE'S REVIEW OF CORALINE

Okay, I want to preface this with something: I ******** LOVED Coraline. Nothing I say will change that.

Now, on with the review.

Now, I went to see this in 3D, so some of my comments will reflect that. I haven't seen it in 2D, so mleh.

The basic plot is that Coraline and her two parents have moved from... Somewhere, I can't remember, to an apartment building called the Pink Palace. It's very pink. Her parents are engrossed in their work, and barely pay any attention to her as a result. Her only friend, and that's debatable, is the grandson of the woman who owns the Pink Palace, a boy called Wyborne.

So, anyway, whilst exploring the house, Coraline finds a tiny door. She gets her mum to open it, and there's nothing behind it but a brick wall. However, that night, a small mouse comes and shows her the door, which now looks like it has a tunnel of candy floss behind it. As she goes through, Coraline finds the world of her dreams...

OR DOES SHE?!

Okay, onto the review-y part.

First thing I loved was how the 3D effects were used, especially in the opening scene. When you see a needle being pushed through the eye of a doll, that looks like Coraline, blue hair and all, it actually looks like it's coming towards you.

Second thing I loved was the character of Coraline. A sarcastic, cynical, and most of all BORED little girl, who struck more than a few chords with me. Plus, I loved her dress sense. At one of the more important scenes where clothes were changed, Coraline put on a kewl hat, and a bodywarmer. Now, as some of you may have seen in my pics, I have a silver body warmer hanging on my door. I love body warmers, and the fact that she was wearing one with an awesome hat meant that I really liked her sense of fashion.

The third thing was the plot. It was magnificent, well thought out, and had many moments that made you think "Holy crap I did NOT SEE THAT COMING."

However, there were some bad bits.

The plot seemed to drag a bit in the middle, as if it was padding itself out a bit. I do realise that this was done in order to set up the magnificent finale, but still.

The second thing was that I don't really feel that the 3D effect was used to its full potential. I mean, hell, a POV shot or two could have been REALLY effective, but there weren't any that I can remember.

Third thing I disliked, and this doesn't have much to do with the film itself, was the ******** TRAILER FOR THE GODDAMN JONAS BROTHERS FILM. I hate them so much, if they threatened to jump of a building, I'd pull a Bender

"I'm going to jump!"
"Gasps!"
"...Do a flip!"

Fourth thing was the play by Mrs Spink and Mrs Forcible. Not only was there the tits vs. a** discussion, the... Well, those who have seen the film know what I mean when I say "FAN DISSERVICE!!!!"

In conclusion, I loved the film. It was well thought out, made fairly good use of the 3D, and washighly enjoyable. If you haven't done so already, I suggest you go see this film. You will most likely love the brilliant writing of Neil Gaiman, and also, the fridge brilliance moments.

Also, if you are wondering why Mr. B is blue... That medal is from Chernobyl. Think about it.

Nymphie ~ We ate it. And the thing was that not only did no-one else on our boat catch a fish, but nobody (Other than me) was having much luck that day.

Luna ~ That's from "When I'm 64" By Paul McCartney, Roight?

I hated Coraline. I don't really like Tim Burton's films.

I mean it's cute, it's fun, it has a nice quality. I just don't like it.

TIM BURTON HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH BLOODY CORALINE. THE DIRECTOR OF [Tim Burton's] NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS WAS ATTACHED, BUT BURTON HIMSELF WASN'T DAMMIT.

I pretty much want to have the same reaction as him, but I won't~

I will just kindly explain that they said the DIRECTOR of "Nightmare Before Christmas," Henry Selick, served as Coraline's director.
Tim Burton did NOT direct that movie; he is usually a director and thus since we always say "Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas," people think he was, but he was a producer, along with Denise Di Novi. nwn

NOW, ON TO MY OTHER COMMENTS~
Yes, Hattie, it was from "When I'm 64~" Just curious, but did you Google it, or did you know it already? I normally say by The Beatles and not by Paul McCartney, though he WAS the one who made the song.

Neil Gaiman FTW~ heart heart heart
I want to get my hands on as many books by him as I can, some friends have told me he is really good. xD
I already read Stardust, BUT I liked the ending better in the movie. In the book Yvaine seems to never have REALLY loved Tristan. But I love it nevertheless~ heart

On your review points on Coraline:
1. LAWL @ U loving Coraline because you like how she dresses <3
2. 3D seems to skip really good scenes which would've looked great in 3D a lot. ): I never go watch movies in 3D, though...because it gets me hella dizzy @-@
3. LAWL AGAIN @ U just for commenting on how the Jonas Brothers film trailer bothered you~ xD
4. I agree on the fan disservice. OH GOD, my friends and I literally had a O.O look...
5. I never noticed the medal was from Chernobyl or that Mr. B was blue. Yeah, I was bothered by other things...

Such as the fact that I was so scared of the concept of a doll watching me that I couldn't sleep, even though the dolls are in my little sister's room, because I'm stupid.

I'm sorry, but I have a tendency of getting off-track, but has anyone seen the film Mirrormask? It was written by Neil Gaiman, and I think it was pretty good.
PostPosted: Sun May 31, 2009 2:02 pm

Derrai ~ No I haven't seen Mirrormask, but because of the stunning commendation it was given by Queen of Wands, I do wanna see it.

Luna ~ In all honesty, I've only ever read one book by Neil Gaiman, and that was Good Omens, co-authored by Terry Pratchett, a man I dearly love. I really should go out and buy a load of Gaiman books. Maybe after I've read the next few Caiphas Cain books.

Yes I did have to google it.

I ******** HATE THE JONAS BROTHERS.
