A faint snort of laughter, an ear twitched. Burnt cookies, well that was certainly not very appetizing, but he supposed the younger audio had at least tried. It always had been Xaldin who was the best chef. Come to think of it, he'd probably kill them both if he returned to find the kitchen as it was...well, try to anyway.
"Now as good a time as any, let's go."
He turned, walking from the kitchen to stroll through the large halls again (though the castle was deserted but for the two of them, well he preferred to avoid even thought of Xaldin showing up right then).
"Come on, maybe we can get some ice cream or something."
Or just some food in general, he'd have been happy with a peanut butter sandwich right then. And hey, maybe it would do his young friend some good to get out for a while. Alone in this castle, well he certainly would have stayed were the roles reversed.

"Ice cream?"
Ears perked, the sitarist quickly scrambled to follow the other one out into the hall. Ahhh, good old child-like Demyx. Despite everything, he really hadn't changed at all.
He had walked these halls many...many times. But with company they didn't seem quite as imposing as they had before. A wide grin crossing his maw, Demyx walked alongside the other.
"I'm glad your back! I missed you.....and Saix gave me way too much to think about."
Leadership didn't suit him. It never did, it never would. It was a huge relief for someone to be back! He could forget all about being a leader and just go back to being silly little Demyx.

While there were those in the organization he couldn't have cared less if he ever saw again, and those he would prefer to never see again, if there was one he'd have missed, it was Demyx. Though he supposed he wouldn't have minded if Vexen were again, weird though he was, he at least never had a reason to dislike him. That was likely true of most of the original six, the others, well they could fall off the face of nothingness for all he cared.
"Forget what Saix said."
There was a finality in his tone. He'd heard enough about Saix and he didn't especially want to think about the b*****d anymore than he already had. If there was a way to be certain of his disappearance forever, he would have been more than happy to use it.
"I think you've earned the right to be who -you- want to be."
A soft smile, that silly little grin, that undying childishness, yeah, Xigbar had missed it. Not that he had ever been especially keen on leadership himself, there were other things he'd rather worry about, but he'd be damned if he'd have let things happen as they did had he been there.
Ah, town, how long had it been since he'd seen it?
"So, what kind of ice cream do you want?"

He missed others. Like Lexaeus! The hulking Audio wasn't much for conversation, but he -was a good bodyguard when needed. Then of course there was Luxord...for various reasons. Cough. And Axel! Oh how he missed that silly red-head.
But this wasn't a time to be sad. It was a happy time! If one came back they could -all- come back, and they'd be a family again. ..A very weird, disfunctional 'family'. Yeah.
Ears flicked back at the final mention of Saix.
"Yes sir..."
Earned the right to be who he wanted to be? Hrm...well leader definitely didn't suit him, but was it really okay to just..do what -he- wanted to do? Wasn't he supposed to follow----right. Superior wasn't around anymore.
Aha, ice cream! A perfect distraction.
"Cookies and cream!"
...Honestly was -that- any big surprise?

No, not a surprise at all. Demyx and cookies, the more things change, the more they remain the same.
"Alright."
The town was fairly familiar, some had changed, some was as it had always been. He didn't remember that shop being there, and he was sure there had once been something on that now empty corner. But the ice cream stand, well that could never disappear could it.
He had stepped to the stand, his voice sharp and to the point (tolerant though he was of Demyx, he was far less so of others).
"I'll take one cookies n cream cone, and one mint chocolate cone."
It was a good thing he still had some munny left on him, at least he had obtained plenty of that on his last mission. Taking several gold pieces from his pocket, he set them on the counter, taking the ice cream in return before turning to walk away from the stand.
"Hey, kid, ice cream."
He paw reached out, offering the cone to the other audio.

If anything was missing, Demyx didn't seem to notice. Then again the things he cared about (such as the ice cream stand) were still around. It didn't take too much to seemingly make him happy.
He quickly stepped over to retrieve his ice cream cone, but it was a concerned moment before he actually paid much attention to it. During that time he patted at his pockets before frowning at the realization. Crap, -he- didn't have any munny on him.
Well..damnit. It couldn't be good to just take things right? It'd simply gnaw away at him with guilt...or whatever that vague feeling was. Ears flicking back, Demyx gave the other a sheepish grin.
"I um...I'll pay you back, promise!"
There, -now- he could start on his ice cream. Still looking a wee bit embarrassed the sitarist licked at his cone. Mmmm, tasted pretty good!

He simply shrugged.
"Don't worry about it, kid."
Watching after the castle alone so long, Xigbar supposed he couldn't begrudge Demyx a free ice cream cone (though the lack of munny might pose a problem to actually purchasing supplies).
A brief, half-smile, Xigbar's gaze turned to the sky. Though it may have seemed he was not actually looking, as if he were only seeing the emptiness, incapable of seeing the beauty. Did he even know what beauty was anymore, had he ever?
Right, ice cream! It was the cold of slowly melting ice cream that had shaken his thoughts back to the snack, quickly scarfing a large bite only to stop dead in his tracks. OW, brain freeze!
"Heh, maybe we should get some of this to take back to the castle, or we could get some cookies."
Cookies, real cookies. Cute though Demyx's attempts at making his own cookies may have been, he sure as hell wasn't going to eat any of them.
