Pet #: 6
Name: Kiril
Age: late adolescence, equivalent to the human 18-23ish range.
Home Planet: Tolenka
One of four planets revolving around a G2V star, Tolenka has two natural satellites and is a highly populated planet within it's small solar system. Each of the four planets has a unique sentient main species though people do travel to and settle on all of them.
Gender info: Tolenkans are all born showing no physical gender indicators and live most of their lives that way. Only when a bonded pair choose to have children will physical changes in their biochemistry occur allowing this to happen. These changes are relatively brief however and both members of the pair will return to their nuetral state shortly after the young are born.

Most Tolenkans do not consider themselves to be of any gender unless they are in a reproductive phase at the time. They respect other species differences and understand the concept of gender roles but they generally do not apply to them.

Powers: Kiril has natural poison glands in their mouth which allows them to synthesize different kinds of poison that then mix with their saliva and can be administered via, spitting, biting or used to coat a weapon ( like how it is done with poison dart frogs). It would possible be used to poison another's food or drink but that'd be wasting resources on Penance and likely only to happen in the case of some sort of backstabbing.

EXP: They get nervous and synthesize a paralytic for defense ( With the band administering pain while they do so)

If the toxic saliva gets on another's bare skin it would make the immediate area numb and slowly spread as it seeped into that person's skin if it wasn't wiped away. If it got into an open wound, the mouth or eyes the target would start feeling the paralyzing effects even faster as it would spread at an alarming rate to make them immobile once it was in the bloodstream.

Pretty much the same would hold true if Kiril created a highly corrosive concoction or what have you. They'd have a range of neuro, cyto, cardio and haemotoxins etc at their disposal but each type takes a certain amount of time to synthesize and making something that contains more than one type would pretty much leave him crippled with pain from the band for a long time after.

The amount of any given poison , acid or toxin that Kiril could produce is directly related to (1) how much pain they can withstand before quitting and (2 ) how recently they've consumed food or water. Being hungry or dehydrated means they have no extra resources in the body to convert via synthesis.

If Kiril bites down and gets the right toxin in someone they could have them at their mercy, on the other hand if someone surprise attacks them it's gonna take at least a minute for them to start synthesizing something to fight with, during which they have to fight both the band and the attacker. Having pre-prepared weapons coated in toxins will help them but there's a lot of dangerous prisoners here that can probably match or beat Kiril in any sort of armed combat and the toxin on a weapon ( as it will likely have dried) is only effective if the weapon breaks skin, simple contact is not enough.

Abilities: Skills, smarts, and such stuff here!
Skills: Kiril is very good at seeing patterns, be they in objects, natural forces around them or they way people nearby act. Figuring out how and why things fit together comes as naturally to them as making toxins.
smarts: Kiril is about average when it comes to knowledge, they understand basic math, deduction and reasoning but have no specialized areas within it. They're sort of like a person about to head off to college, they have the foundations necessary to live without higher education but are outsmarted by anyone who's ever actually applied themselves in life thus far. Kiril has more street smarts and good intuition than higher understanding.
Physical: Kiril is built sort of like a sprinter, capable of getting the hell out of dodge quickly but not very good for sustained periods of exertion. They are rather agile and flexible with a tall and thin body but would lose a wrestling match if they couldn't wriggle or bite their way out of it.

( I tried to imagine them with the limited running stamina of a sprinter but the maneuverability of someone like soccer player Peter Crouch who is 6'7 and moves like whoa. Kiril would have good footwork and a few fancy moves but one good whack to the ribs and they are down for the count. Physical strength is not something Kiril can rely on when in danger.)

Kiril's eyes contains a tapetum lucidum which allows them to see well in low light conditions. ( Close to a cat's night vision but not nearly as good as an owl) This also makes their eyes appear to shine in the dark.

Personality:

Kiril is a young being on the cusp of adulthood and it shows rather clearly. They struggle to be as independent as possible even at the cost of their own comfort. Kiril would rather be seen as a casual acquaintance to people than a steady friend so long as it means they have no sense of being beholden to another. They will stubbornly pick away at projects meant for multiple people just to prove they can can do it own their own. Pride is also a factor here and Kiril gets rather sore when they have to ask for help.

Kiril is social and does enjoy the company of others but tries to avoid getting too close to any one person or groups of people lest someone think they're taking sides. They'd much rather be caught between groups of friends ( or factions once on Penance) than lay down allegiance with anyone.

Kiril is self centered and tends to focus on what is best for themselves. Who they are currently friends with, share with, lie for etc usually depends on who is most useful to Kiril at the time. In their experience it pays better to be a free agent than to be tied down, you benefit more by being open to helping everyone at some point in time. Kiril tries to make it very clear that they don't take sides and it's totally not personal if they stab you in the back, they're just looking out for themselves. Of course this also means that Kiril will grudgingly be subservient when it's the best option available, damaged pride battling with the desire to feel like they're making the logical choice.

Kiril has taken to living for the moment and makes decisions based on the immediate situation only. Coupled with a strong sense of initiative this keeps the Tolenkan on the move in some form or another. Kiril is always in the midst of enacting some short term plan or another to gain what they current want or need. In less selfish situations this manifests as a strong sense of self motivation and keeps Kiril from being idle , outside of recuperative reasons, for too long.

Positive: self-motivated, reasonably social, independent.
Negative: self centered, unreliable, proud. Morally grey

History:
Childhood: Kiril's early childhood was average for their kind, they were raised by their parents, tested regularly for emerging powers and given a basic education. These primary years created family bonds which Kiril actually values and respects. This was also when it became apparent that Kiril was not in any way musically inclined. Also became obvious that Kiril was a Tolenkan with high synthesis abilities and thus low physical talent and strength.

Academy: At early adolescence ( Tolenkans age in weird maturation phases rather than years.) Kiril was sent off to a boarding Academy on the nearby satellite Sjow to be taught with students from other planets in the small solar system. It was here that Kiril became wary of others and determined to stand out on their own merits. This was also a time of experimentation in many areas that taught Kiril many lessons outside the approved curriculum.

Post Academy sad shortly before Penance) Kiril took a post graduation trip to one of the inner planets, enjoying the time off before he would be required to take further schooling or enter the workforce. The normally stable government of the world suddenly found itself embroiled in a violent civil war. Rather than flee like a sensible person, the young and opportunistic Kiril sensed a chance to make some serious money. Kiril had no personal interests in the rebel's cause nor the government's attempts to restore order, they simply saw opportunity. History class had taught Kiril that one side or the other was always going to break the rules to get an advantage in these sorts of things and soliciting a Tolenkan to synthesize anything without a medical permit was most certainly illegal. Kiril just had to wait and see which side broke down and approached them first.

The rebels bit first but unfortunately for Kiril they were caught handing over the toxins when the rebel base they had been taken to was raided. Kiril was extradited back to Tolenka, tried, convicted and then shipped off to Penance.

Why were you sent to Penance?:
Arms dealing via selling vials of various toxins they had synthesized. Aiding rebels.

Prompt Chosen: # 3

In this time and age, everyone has their own strengths. You need them to survive in society, or at least the society you have chosen to mingle with. Tell me a tale of one of the most memorable times when your powers have served you well, whether it be when you first found them, some time after, or the last time you used them before you were banded...
Prompt Response:

It was a horrible waste, Kiril thought, to ruin the sweet squares that had been sent to them from home. The young Tolenkan sat cross legged on their bed and slowly licked each one; in the process coating the tops with a thin layer of poisoned saliva that would soon dry and be invisible. Still, it was necessary Kiril reasoned, if the filthy food poachers could not be kept out of their snack stash then they would learn soon that the food found there might not always be safe.

"You're not gonna kill them right?" There was a note of concern from a voice across the room where Kiril's roomate floated above thier own bed. Being made mostly of various gases the other rarely actually sat or slept on that particular piece of furniture unless they were in a dense phase.

Dark eyes shifted to center on the Armitian. Normally Olly didn't ask what Kiril was up to if they suspected anything weird. The normally chatty and curious male went silent any time they thought Kiril was scheming. Over time the Tolenkan had come to understand that this behavior was prompted by the concept of plausible deniability. If Olly didn't know what Kiril was doing then they weren't required to state an opinion on it or report it if the behavior was one both children knew would end in punishment. Kiril had found this trait in their roommate both amusing and convenient in the past.

With the faint taste of sugar lingering on their tongue Kiril slowly shook their head then offered a sharp toothed grin, well as much as the bindings on their mouth allowed anyways. " I'm not like those crazies on the video broadcasts, I'm just making them sick so they stop taking my things." Kiril had long ago spotted the pattern between those who did bad things and the subsequent need for secrecy. The academy thieves who kept pilfering their snacks would not want it known that they were doing so. Those children would keep their inevitable sickness a secret or lie and say they ate something bad before they would reveal they had stolen. Thus Kiril's revenge would not be revealed to those who would be in a position to give out punishments lest the thieves risked further punishment of their own.

~
Two days later Kiril's sweet squares went missing despite the room being key card locked at the time. Hours afterward Kiril noticed five of their agemates had failed to attend the rest of the day's lessons. The revelation of just who had been behind the crime was oddly bittersweet as Kiril had had no reason to suspect two of the culprits.

Still, from that day forward Kiril suffered no more theft at the academy . Well except for the post exam undergarment raids that took place in later years.

Extra: Totally thinking I may need a set of created gender nuetral pronouns to keep things from getting awkward, or to borrow more of the ones that are currently in somewhat prominent use. Sorry for any confusion about which ' they' I was referring to in the prompt.
