 There was a weight of quiet and secrecy in the deep woods that seemed palpable to Tamri as she trod her way carefully between the trees. The occasional muffled animal sound reached her ears, but the only way she really knew that this place was far more full of life than it seemed was when her nerve-sense would pick out the motion of tiny creatures around her. It was far more active than the amount of sound would indicate and it made her hackles rise in apprehension. There were no calls of alarm, so likely they were simply trying avoid her notice, and yet...
Well, it was creepy. She shook her head at herself then and decided to just enjoy her walk. It was her own fault she was out here beneath the trees in the middle of nowhere. She'd just had to go see what it was like out beyond the noise and bustle of the more populated lands, and somehow the deep woods had seemed the most suitable for the task. She snorted, shaking her head at herself again. A Nightmaren grown, and for some time now, and yet she always seemed to give in to this childish need to go explore. Ah well.

 Kounoh lifted his head off his forepaws and let his tongue loll out of his mouth, tasting the air. Something. Something was off. The vibrations of the wildlife were ... mhhhh. Not panicked. Wary. He couldn't yet taste any unfamiliar scent, but something, something was wrong.
He rose from his cool, shady dust-wallow and shook his coat out. He would patrol the boundaries of his territory, taste and sense for intruders. The internal rumble of his heart picked up slightly, drowning out the faint and distorted sounds that sometimes filtered through to his awareness.
On the southern edge, he paused above a deer trail, tongue flickering at the air. Musk and the new-dirt scent of something passing. Not just deer. Predator. The fur along his spine rose in a bristling line, and he jumped down to the trail. The low vibration in his throat told him he was growling, though still softly; he would have to roar to hear himself. He stalked along the trail, tracking the unknown intruder.

Tamri paused at a stream for a long drink, enjoying the feel of the sun on her back in this small break in the trees after walking for so long in the tree shadows. When finished she paused for a moment in contemplation. Well, she'd already started the day off acting like a kit, so why not? With a loud cry of childish glee she jumped from the bank to land in the stream with a splash, kicking up quite a bit of water in spite of the fact that it didn't even reach her elbows.
