He feels everyone deserves the same amount of respect whether he knows them or not. Kage has always been willing to help those in need, though he has often been taken advantage of in the past. Once he becomes determined about a goal there is no persuading him otherwise.
Background Info: Being from Snowpoint City, a place thats cold a decently isolated from other towns and cities in the Sinnoh region one would expect that there wouldn't be much to do. That can't be any further from the truth, trainers are often visiting the gym there to test their mettle against the leader there, and even more often trainers get stuck or lost in the thick snowstorms that Snowpoint is famous for. The Atsumaru family dedicates their lives to going out and rescuing any that are stuck or lost.
Again, since they are so isolated it is difficult to contact the Pokemon Rangers for assistance so they've created their own branch of search and rescue teams. With Kage's father, Kouze Atsumaru, his breeding talents have raised a strong team of pokemon acclimated to the powerful storms of snowpoint and with their help Kage's mother, Rei Atsumaru, who at one time was a Pokemon Ranger, and with the help of others who are of age and experience go on journies to assist anyone in need.
After 3 years of serving in SnowPoints Search And Rescue team and having experienced what it's like to work with pokemon, Kage decided to set out on a journey to become a pokemon trainer and raise his own team of pokemon to journey to he other regions of the world and see what challenges they have to offer.
