I just got into meditation and was wondering if we were suppose to think of something or say something while we're meditating? sweatdrop This may hav been asked before, I just found this guild and was hoping to get some answers.
Also is there a right or wrong way to meditate or is there like certain guidelines that I need to follow

A right or wrong way? I suppose that'd depend on the type of meditation you're doing, really. There's more than one type. Which kind do you fancy?

I found this book at Barnes & Noble about a week ago called "The Meditation Bible". Has meditations for almost every situation, including meditations for various religions. I can't speak for it's accuracy or anything, as I'm not sure how to cross reference things like that... But I'm enjoying it a lot and I think the different buddhist meditations in there are really helpful

When I meditate i sit quietly and close my eyes not distracted by anything i end my prayers in mediation and start by a traditional Hindu prayer including mantra recitation.

I sit and do my best to think about nothing as well as keep my body in it's "natural line" because if you align your body correctly you align your mind correctly as well. For my legs I do an inverse half lotus(Left leg over the right leg and toes aligned with the knees)

When I practice mindfulness meditation I try to focus on my breathing for as long as possible. When a thought arises, I do my best to observe it objectively and then, if I find that remaining with the thought is not helpful, I let go of it peacefully and return to my breathing.

I'm not sure if this quite qualifies as meditation, but I saw it in the FPRC guild and it sounded interesting:
I imagine that I am a seed and I start out curled in a ball with my head down. I imagine slowly growing into a tree and I move my limbs outward and my head up as slowly as I can. when I am fully stretched out, I start making myself into a ball again. I didn't say any prayer, but it was very peaceful and relaxing. comments?

Sounds like a classic guided meditation to me. Not the kind I ascribe to, being more a vipissana and sitting/walking kind of girl, but it's still meditation.

What was the purpose of it, if I may ask? Just yogic style stretching? Or was there a reason for imagining yourself as a tree?

I have no clue. I just saw it in the fluffly pagan rehab center and it sounded very easy and relaxing. oh, and I've been doing some just sitting and chanting and breathing sorta meditation too. I got this wonderful floaty feeling during it. I couldn't get to sleep afterward; I think I may have been too relaxed. 3nodding

xd I had that problem once. After I figured out how to sit without losing feeling in both my legs, I got too relaxed during a session and fell asleep. I woke up when my head thudded against the wall I was facing. rofl

I've found that I just say om mani padme hum as I breathe with the "om" on my inhale and the rest on the exhale. I also do the same thing with loving kindness and other things like be mindful and don't judge. stuff like that. by the way, the longest time I've meditated with the stopwatch on my phone is about 12 and a half minutes. I went longer once, about 15 minutes. YAY!
