"Interesting. Perhaps it has something to do with your father's better qualities- or the vampires' darker ones." That was the sort of thing that pointed back to the Church, but there were lots of things in the world that were against 'evil' as they saw it...or maybe Mik was some sort of ancestral enemy to vampires. Confusing, regardless. "You should research lore around vampires then, as well- it should be an easy path of logic given your occupation, and you might find something that strikes a familiar chord."
He looked away, then, uneasy with the subject though he knew the truth was important. "It isn't so much a choice, as who I am. Just as things catch fire around you, I am susceptible to change in my appearance. Doppelgaengers change themselves to take over the lives of others, often for mischief or personal gain. From everything I've learned so far, they aren't a particularly nice or good group of people; it goes against almost everything I have ever known."

"I'd guess it's something to do with vampires' darker qualities," he said after a moment, "Since it's almost like a warning, you know?" What were the differences between Stefan and vampires? Vampires were undead, Damned, evil; although his guardian might suggest it was possible for a vampire to not be evil, Mikhail was not convinced. Damned, though...it stuck in his mind. Hmm.
"You can't control it, then?" God, that would suck. And he thought a kid tying a bow in his hair was bad, imagine what it would be like to just turn female at random. Mikhail twitched inwardly. "So being Fa'e does come before the rest," he mused then, recalling his conversation with Mortimer.
Rionne was a doppelgaenger, and they weren't supposed to be nice, but as far as Mik could gather, Rio was a nice guy. Why did things have to confusing?

"A gender change is a very large step- it will be a long time before I must fight such an alteration," Rio explained with a sigh. "For now, I must retain as much focus as possible to keep from being casually influenced. For example, if I were to spend a very long time around you, my hair might begin to change to your color...or I might start trying to grow wings again. I had them once, and my mind insists they should still be there- which is quite painful. Turning BACK from these changes is one very big headache."
"For now, however, I am content to spend my efforts on retaining my own morality and finding a path through their darkness." The thought didn't seem to cause him much hardship, at he said it with calm logic. He was, of nothing else, stubborn. "I sincerely doubt any race of people can be completely devoted to such ruthlessness and anarchy. I wish, however, that I had a warning system such as yours! That will be of great use to you always, I am sure. It must be quite dangerous, to hunt vampires."

Well, at least Rionne had time before he had to worry about switching gender - God, Mik still couldn't get over that! - but that he could inadvertantly pick up other people's traits was pretty weird, too. "Oh man, growing wings would have to hurt."
Mikhail had always had wings, and the thought of them suddenly springing from his back instead of jsut being there wasn't pleasant at all...nor was the idea of losing them. Ugh.
"It is, but if you're good enough - and lucky, Father likes to say - it can be a good living. He's only taken me on a hunt once, though, but I did kill one." After it had come uncomfortably, embarassingly close to biting him. That was a detail Mik felt better leaving out, however, and otherwise he was very proud of that moment; and it showed in the way his posture changed, a slight drawing up of his height and wings.

"Then you have made quite a start, already." Rio was suitably impressed- killing ANYTHING was a major effort, and for Mik to do so well told him he wouldn't mind having the 'angel' at his back when it came to a fight. "The few occasions I have been involved in such battles, my attention was focused on simply surviving. I vastly prefer strategy, not actual combat."
His innate curiosity was taking over, with a vengeance. "If you do not mind my asking...how exactly does one kill a vampire?" O_o;;

If Mikhail were a bird, he would have been preening; though he'd make efforts to deny it, he was in fact a very proud individual. "I'm just the opposite," he admitted. "Father's always telling me I should think more when I'm fighting."
Case in point, his fight with Dustin and the nasty cut across his palm that had resulted. Oh, and the black eye that had finally faded. It had driven him crazy, wearing that around. It couldn't exactly be covered up.
"Short of throwing them out into the sunlight?" Obviously, that wasn't the way it usually worked. "Stake them, cut off the head, and then burn it all," he said matter-of-factly. It was thorough, if nothing else.

I think I've seen that spark in someone's eye before. Several someones, actually, but let Mikhail be proud- it was a personal strength that Rio highly approved of. Better to be willing to fight, than hide in a corner and let the world batter you into oblivion.
"That certainly sounds...efficient," he noted, and put that information down on paper as well. So interesting. "Though I imagine someone is going to stick you with the 'avenging angel' reference eventually, with your wings! Hopefully we will be able to find your true past."
Setting his pen aside once more, he was struck by the other Fa'e's remarkable situation. "There must be so much here to confuse you," he murmured, shaking his head. "Do you have any other questions about the Fa'e in general? Have you met Lady Airi?"

"It's messy, but it covers all the bases. Better safe than sorry and all that." Mikhail did wonder somewhat why the method he'd been taught for dispensing vampires merited writing down, since it didn't have anything particular to do with his past, as far as he knew, but he supposed it couldn't hurt.
He wasn't sure what to think about the suggestion of how he mgiht be referred to, though. On one hand, it was a high compliment, and certainly something to aspire to, but to presume he was something so high...well, he felt rather undeserving.
"I'm not sure," he answered after a moment, tapping his forefinger against his chin. "I don't think there's much left I could ask that you could answer. As for Lady Airi...no, I haven't met her. I can picture her as though I had, but I really haven't. It was someone named Conrad who brought me here."

"Conrad...interesting."
Rio didn't know very much about the mysterious Conrad, but what he did know made that a curious statement indeed. Again, his pen flicked across paper- he had a large number of little facts about Mikhail down, by now.
"It occurs to me that you could use some assistance learning your way around Gaia...and perhaps those flames of yours, as well." Tilting his head slightly, the Doppelgaenger raised an eyebrow at Mik over his veil. "By chance, I happen to know someone who might be of great use to you. This might sound strange, but...would you like to come with me for a while? It isn't very far from the HQ."

Someone...who might be of great use to him? Mikhail wasn't entirely sure what Rionne meant by that, but he trusted this Fa'e, who was calm and polite and intelligent.
"Well, I...alright," he answered after a moment, pushing himself up form his chair. "Where are we going?"

"My Guardian's home." In spite of himself, Rio smiled at the thought of his tiny Guardian as he packed his things away, slinging his laptop bag over his shoulder. "I haven't seen her in quite some time...but there is a shop at the back of her property. It was a short flight, when I had wings- it should be an easy walk."
Beckoning for Mik to follow, he lead the way out of the Library. It was early, yet- they shouldn't have any trouble finding the people he was looking for.
((EXIT to Pard Aviary. Library once again clear for invaders ;D))
