So. My boyfriend and I somehow got into a discussion about what types of contemporary music the classical (umbrella) composers would be into today. So far, this is my list.
Metal: Beethoven, Wagner Emo: Tchaikovsky, Chopin Pop: Mozart, Haydn Industrial: Stravinsky
Any other ideas?
Oh and I'd love to see Mariah Carey play Die Konigin der Nacht... I mean, I really wouldn't, but just for humor's sake... whee

hm...Beethoven and Wagner and also Mahler would fit for metal...SO expressive...possibly Brahms also and Stravinsky, due to how savage some of his work is...possibly Rachmaninoff too simply due the amazing amount of passion behind his work.
I suppose Bach could be "industrial" due to how mechanical his work is....
the pop section is pretty well thought out...and hmm...this is hard. >_>

Chopin so is an emo boy!
I think Mozart and Haydn would both be dance composers though.
Tchaikovski would probably be a new romantic...
Schubert would be French Idol.

Harvested Sorrow Mahler would fit for metal Nevar! Mahler is hardcore emo! I mean, the man wrote to his wife in the margins of the 10th "to live for you! to die for you!" Admittedly, your woman screwing another man while you're dying is a little tough. Hmm... xxxGustavxxxMahlerxxx! He was a vegetarian for a while.

Yeah, I think Mahler is definitely hardcore emo... hardcore in the sense that it's not wimpy. He does have a lot of metal in him though. Like, Chopin, I love the guy to death, but he was a wimp. When Chopin got emo, his music brooded and cried about heartbreak... whereas Mahler screamed in agony about death. That's how I hear their music. edit: Vivaldi = techno. Repetitive techno. lol

Debussy: New Age. Lizst: Definitely rock, but I'm not sure what kind. Ravel: Slow R&B. xd Other than Wagner and Mozart (and Beethoven but he only wrote one so he's definitely an instrumental composer), I can't think of any opera parallels... sweatdrop Puccini would be along the lines of emo but not as chronically sad. Verdi... I have absolutely no idea. He does have a distinctive style but I can't link it with anything. Anyone here enjoy hip-hop and rap that would be able to make an unbiased comparison? lol

About half of Beethoven's works are vocal pieces....just not operas. xp
Oh...and Berlioz = psychedelic/prog. rock! xd
Liszt would probably be prog, too...and Paganini, since alot of their work is based around showing virtuosity. Or perhaps jazz fusion.... ninja

I think Grieg might be goth, but melodic goth, not with death metal vocals or anything. Hehe.

Goth has death metal vocals? that's news to me..o_O
And no...Grieg is too...folkish, too naturalistic, sorta like Bartok. I wanta say black metal, but not completely sure there...probably some sort of folk-fusion music (folk rock, folk metal, folk whatever)
Schumann could be emo I suppose....but, some different kinda emo than the limp-wristed s**t that's so popular. xp He had the guts to actually attempt suicide (even if he failed) instead of just having songs about it. >_> Hmm....perhaps hardcore would be more fitting of him....all that rage at the world, the wish to die....yet, something that drives him on and actually makes him have the bravery to attempt when most can't. Being a bit crazy helps, too.

Bah would totaly be Progressive Metal. technical, fast and a bit condesending.
Lizst is pure progressive (which is fast, weird and extreamely condesending).
Mozart is classical rock (lat's get high and go into oragies).
Wagner would be in a boy band. razz
