Oh, South Africa... That's interesting. You're probably the first person I've met on here from there.

i'm so glad you said interesting and not cool/awesome. everyone says "omg that's so awesome!" and then i have to explain to them that we're on the very thinly veiled brink of a civil war (misnomer much?)
i've noticed there aren't a lot of South Africans on gaia anymore. anime's not really as big here as it should be.

Yeah, well I'm not really familiar with everything going on there right now, but I have heard a little, so I wouldn't really think it's that cool or awesome to live there. (No offense)

How old are you/how easy would it be for you to leave the country?

i'm 23, but i'm unqualified and pretty poor so it's not gonna be easy for me to leave. pretty much my only option is to get a Green Card, either through the Diversity Visa program (the Green Card lotto, basically) which i AM entered in, or by marrying a US Citizen - and the requirements for that are pretty difficult to meet at this point. if i can convince my dad to get his Irish passport (he qualifies 'cause his mom has hers) i MIGHT be able to get mine, which would allow me into the UK, Ireland and Europe without too many hassles. but i don't have the money for that either right now.
i can get a loan to study, but then i'm stuck here another 4 years at least. i could get my wedding funds out of my dad maybe, but that barely covers airfare and visa costs - i'd have no way of supporting myself until i could get a decent job.

Wow. Well, that's pretty unfortunate. I know how the complications for marrying a US citizen can be though. My friend married a guy from England and I remember all the hoops he had to jump through.
Well, anyway, I hope that things work out for you, and the issues there either settle down a bit or that you get out before they become too bad.
