Festival of Sun and Moon- Known by many names, this festival is celebrated throughout Escar. It starts on the spring equinox and continues for three days. It is to help celebrate the comming of spring, and the end of winter. During the festival, it is customary to wear a mask in public, hiding one's true identity. This is done so that people can interact freely, not worrying about social rank. The festival draws entertainers from throughout the lands, who gather in hopes of making a fair bit of coin. During the Feast of Sun and Moon on the first day of the festival, the capitals often select an entertaining group to preform at the feast in the capital's Great Hall. To be invited to entertain at the feast is considered a great honor. Usually, the feast is first-come-first seated in the Great Hall, but food is given to twice that number. Througout the lands, it is common for those who sell food to sell it for at least half the price that it normally goes for or less. The festival has an unfortunate tendency to get out of hand, as some of the younger Escarans enjoy too much drink, and begin acting in ways that might be considered rude and even dishonorable in any other occasion.
Night of Rememberance- This holiday coincides with the Terralin holiday of Christmas. It is another holiday celebrated in all parts of Escar. The people remember what was given to them, and reflect on the promises of the future. Some Escarans do in fact celebrate Christmas on the same day. It is customary for a single ruling house to offer one hundred thousand or more free meals, and all other food is to be sold at 1/4 the price or less. The peak of the festival is at night, where the entire evening is spent in song, thought, and similar activities. The host House for this meal his changed every year. Every four years, this festival is followed by a three-month long set of games and contests, similar to the Terralin Olympics. Sometimes the games take place immediately after the festival, sometimes not. It is up to the hosting House how long after the festival the games will take place.
