Dragons have been noted throughout Escar as creatures of immense power. The types vary greatly, but generally speaking, dragons that have a metallic sheen to thier scales are good, though not always the most friendly beings, and those without that sheen are evil-natured. Gold, silver, and red dragons are notable for their ability to change shape."
Lord Raven Orion

First Dragon War
The splitting of the realm would require an amount of magic beyond reckoning. Dragons, who are creations of magic, felt this, and banded together to stop the Escaran Council. In those ages, dragons were virtually immortal. Though their king, Eclipse, was sensitive to the world’s plight, he could not allow so much magic to be used to end it. He managed to convince the dragons to put aside their differences to defend magic itself. The only dragons that avoided conflict when they could were the Silver Dragons, who cared for the humanoid beings inhabiting the realms. Even without the Silvers, the number of dragons ready for war was staggering. A war against those marvelous creatures would not be easily won. That war, however, came nonetheless.

The First Dragon War, as it is now known, was long, and claimed many non-draconic lives. In the ranks of dragons, however, only three were slain. The Silver dragons often pushed for the end of war, and often spoke with Raven’s father and grandfather, hoping that another way existed. The magic-users fought alongside those who could not use magic against the fearful might of the dragons and their Dragonfear. Though they were at odds for so long, and hated each other, magic and steel united. Alas, this unity was not enough.

The Four Dragoons, unofficially led by Raven’s father, Zypher Sincol Orion, saw a way to end the Dragon War. He was often one to search for ways around resistance when dealing with great opposition. The Silver Dragon’s conversations with the lord had shown him such a path. The dragon’s power could not be conquered, but it could be weakened. The Dragoons sought out all of the dragons’ lords, or Dracosiari, and suppressed their power. They faced great trials in their quest, but succeeded in the end. The true strength of the dragons was left in dormancy, and peace was once again brought to the world. Satisfied with the age, the Council put aside their plan.

For those familiar with Dungeons and Dragons, my dragons are designed in almost an identical way. The only difference, is that chromatics do not have to be evil, nor metallic dragons good.

Gold: Often aloof and distant, golds tend to make their layers away from societies.
Silver: Noble and proud, silvers often fight for noble causes, and are the most common to act in the events of Escar.
Bronze: Fond of conversation, bronze dragons also are fascinated with warfare, and will often join an army for a good cause.
Copper: Tricksters, copper dragons love jokes and pranks, but never mean any ill-will.
Brass: Fond of conversation, these dragons will talk for long periods of time, and often give out information, after hinting for a gift.

Red: Powerful and greedy, reds are the worst of dragons. They think of themselves, and are violent and destructive.
Black: Likely one of the most dangerous dragons, blacks are sinister and deadly, valuing under-handed tactics and strategy.
Blue: While evil, blues still respect a system of order and hierarchy.
Green: Greens dislike open battle, prefering magic and persuasion to get around combat.
White: Beastial, whites are not very bright, and are the least dangerous of dragons, if you care to think a dragon can be "less dangerous."

Dragonlords
The Dragonlords are masterful commanders of various dragonrider military groups. They are respected as being masters of military strategy and martial prowess. There are always 10 of these, no more, no less. One can only become a Dragonlord if chosen as a successor, or by defeating a Dragonlord in battle. If chosen by the current Dragonlord as an heir to his position, the other Dragonlords must agree. While they are usually thought of as an organization, they rarely meet.
