I just want everyone's opinions on this. Is SMN worth all the pain of getting all the avatars and stuff? I mean.. SMN isn't even that good in this game.. ( Sadly ) When i lvd SMN it took me forever to get partys it was annoying. Post your opinions. =P

if you are willing to be backup or main heal, getting pts as a SMN aren't too bad. My sister is 71SMN at the moment and she loves it.
I love pet jobs, so I'm sold on SMN already.

This is coming from a 75 smn for over a year. It is a horrible exping experience, but once you get to 70 and are able to solo, it's a lot of fun. Stuff you can do is absolutely amazing. However, I do NOT suggest it to be your first job. SMN as a first job to 75 is a big no-no. 2nd or 3rd maybe.

It really depends on how you feel about SMN, if you like it, then by all means try to get it to 75.
It is just that SMN tends to be the back of the line when it comes to healing. Many people would rather choose a SCH, WHM, or RDM (once they reach 40's) to heal over a SMN. It isn't bad but just be prepared that you may need to wait a while to get into parties.
SMN also requires one of the most work out of most jobs. To get Diablos, you need the CoP expansion area set, this means you gotta do the Prommyvians and getting groups to get to the level 40's region to get Diablos. Many of the other summons/avatar also require a bit of work/time/effort. You need somewhat of a high fame to be able to do the uncapped battles. The capped level 20's one CAN be a pain to solo also (I spent quite a while soloing to get every avatar except Fenrir and Diablos.)
Not trying to scare you... I loved summoner when I played it. It requires work though like I said 3nodding

Well the SCH is negotiable cause really we are only wanted for Imps. You know the whole Slienara other than that no one really wants us to do anything. So to get back to the topic I'm currently doing SMN and if you want to take it to 75 don't unless you have 2 others cause trust me getting the summons with the Min Trials is so annoying and finding a group who actually wants to kill Avatars is usually rare. (Well at least on Phoenix.) Other than that I love being able to call the guardians of Van'diel, it's so cool. But then again thats just me cause I'm a an XI dork. x.x

SMN is totally worth it. I haven't taken it the distance, but a good friend of mine did as his first job and it's always been his favorite (even though he's working on his 11th 75 now.) Not to mention, 75 SMN and its 2hr are DEAD USEFUL. SMNs are essential to many big fights and BCNM/ENMs.

SMN and RDM = awesome exp in a duo 3nodding I love SMN, even though I do have to be main heal, but with my RDM duo partner, it's not bad, Vermy + Refresh + Sanction + SMN autorefresh = long time before breaks, and I usually have time to do DD and buff. My SMN is only lvl 60, would be higher but can't play atm!! Gah! Atm though I'm having to pt b/c we ran out of good fast area's we can duo in :/ I can get pt invites fast b/c I have a RDM set.. although i think that'll be done with since he doesn't want to play anymore >.> anyways lol i'm done!!

Originally when I started playing FFXI, I wanted to only lvl rdm to 30 and then unlock smn and get that to 75. While I played more and more into FFXI, my mind started to change as I realized how much better I liked rdm and how much more popular of a job it was to receive invites.
It all depends on your preference though. Do you think you'd have the dedication to get all the avatars, and then sit around for hours skill up your summon skill so that your avatars aren't gimped in battle?
SMNs also take quite a long time to be useful and powerful for anything. They are mostly needed during end game and maybe for various missions/quests.
So in a way it is worth it to lvl them, in a way it isn't, but it really depends on you as a player. Just letting you know though, it's going to take you a very long time to lvl up this job.
