memphiskite I'm sure Aerith was suppose to be dead to get the story moving and to get Cloud the way he is today... The way I see it, Phoenix Down is an item made specially only for the gamers during the battle scenes, because really, we don't want to lug a dead character around the world map unable to heal them... If you really want to put resurrection into the storylines, the best bet would be to get the Phoenix summoning which probably has the highest chance of resurrecting someone (though highly not guaranteed). Too bad you usually get it after the character's completely dead... Otherwise, necromancy sounds like a good idea... xd Or they could take a page out of Dragonquest games and have the party lugging around a coffin until they can get to a church.

Haha, but that would really suck in X after they kick you out of all the churches, ne? Just gotta be reeeeeeally careful at that point. And I dunno what would happen to Auron then.

Reels -Headdesk- Because Phoenix Downs only revive you from being KOed. I guess they're like smelling salts...which is an item that gets rid of confusion... But, point is, when you use a Phoenix Down on your characters, it works because they aren't fatally wounded, just KOed. And I thought I would have to explain it.

even better question- why didn't they just cast life (unless i'm mistaken ever character i had by then knew it lol--unless it's not available)
but sarusly- pheonix downs are for gaming purposes only-so you don't get game overs and to make battles easier
but when you really think about it- why don't the npc's use items or spells confused like when bahamut destroys alexandria in FF9 why didn't anyone use anything to save anyone

They probably do; it's just not important enough to get screen-time. I can only actually think of one time ever a character uses a normal spell outside of battle, when Selphie tries to use Cure on Zell in D-District Prison. Besides that... occasionally you'll find someone who'll heal you, but you never really know how... Belgemine in X, for example.

ArikaiHart So, in FFV, there's a scene where one character is fatally wounded, and the charcters try everything - potion, elixer, I think that's Galuf.. > Yea, I don't get that either.. But I think thats based on the story.. Keep it that way..

You have to use Phoenix to do this.
