This guild is amazing for book ideas!! I'm on "Sophie's World" by Josten Gaarder... I'm not far in but there's so much information in it you sometimes have to put it down and just go "Woa..." xd Good book though.

I'm planning on finishing that then moving onto "War and Peace", I bought it in 3 dusty volumes in a second-hand book shop smile I hope it's good... and over the summer I'm hoping to carve absolute chunks out of the TIME Top 100 Books List. Get my dose of classics wink

I am not going to have a long summer, just barely 1 week left of my holidays..

But I do plan to read Kate Chopin's The Awakening.. Anyone heard of it? biggrin

Second hand bookstores are great. Saves loads of money <3

Yeah, I do have a reading plan for this summer.

First of all I'm planning on reading all the books that I bought 2 months before school ended. I have around 20+ books that I bought, but have been putting off because I keep on getting books from the public library. Ugh. I really need to quit that bad habit. sweatdrop

Also, I plan on reading the entire Warriors series. You know, the one about the warrior cats living in the wild? I thought at first that the series was going to be childish and a bit dumb and even went as far as to tell myself I would keep away from them, but I've heard so many good things about the series that my curiosity kicked in and I read the first book and fell in love with it. heart So now I'm going to read the entire series and find out how Fireheart deals with the prejudices of being a kittypet. xd

Also in my plan is to read at least four or five of Dostoyevsky novels. Why? Because they are absolutely brilliant! As soon as I was finished reading The Brother's Karamazov I knew that one; it had now become my favorite book, and two; the author was a complete genius. 3nodding

So, yeah, that's my summer reading plan. wink

Haha, I do the same thing. There are so many books I want to read and I can't seem to finish any of them unless I read them one or two at a time.

Yay, a fellow Dostoevsky fan! I, too, happen to be reading The Idiot. I'm about 200 pages in. What do you think of it?

AH! Yay! I didn't think there was many people out there that read his novels.

whee And what can I say except that it's absolutely amazing. Even though the characters exaggerate a bit in their emotions I still love it. Although The Brother's Karamazov is still my favorite and better than The Idiot. In this book, I get more angry and upset with the characters, especially Nastasya. She get's on my nerves. stressed And how everyone has to always look down upon the prince. That also makes me mad. So, I'm mad most of the time while reading. The only one who I really like are the prince, Kolya, and Parfion.

I'm about half way through the book (my edition has 652pgs.) and it takes me 1 hour to read 30 pgs. of it. The print is so small! Either that or I'm just a slow reader.

I'm planning on reading both of those myself, actually. Huzzah for ambitious, near-impossible summer reading plans! 4laugh

And I agree, this is a great guild in which to share reading plans and to augment your plan based on the brilliant plans drawn up by others.

Ah, yes, such is Romantic lit. Everyone has emotional meltdowns about everything. But, as in poetry, sometimes magnification (in this case, of emotions) helps us to see nuances of an emotion that we might not notice otherwise, just as a microscope enables us to see things we'd be unable to otherwise.

Nastasya can be a trying character, but I am always reminded of her horrible upbringing, so I can forgive her for it. Myshkin is adorable, and I actually like Nastasya for her emotional complexity and her ability to recognize Myshkin's incomparable moral fortitude. She doesn't perceive him as soft in the head, as others do. Kolya's a good kid, but I find Parfyon to be a bit of a creeper. eek

At that rate, you'll probably finish it before me. When we're both done, we should discuss it further! 3nodding
