(On a completely random tangent) So apparently women have more pain receptors than men? Something about more nerve receptors or whatevs. I was reading articles on LiveScience the other day on disproving common medical misconceptions about pain...

Yawn. I decided to get in on this and bring the thread back to the topic at hand.
Point One: The poem was rad. I enjoyed it and it got a good discussion going. I wouldn't have been as much of a fan if it did the same thing but wasn't written well, but it had both things, so, that's cool.
Point Two: I'm white as ever, but I was born on Guam. Guam is a Pacific Islander, but I was told once that I would get in big trouble if I identified as that because I'm as white as Wonderbread and it would be a misidentification. But I was born there. Could I have been filling in that bubble for years?
Point Three: Racism is ridiculous at this point of history. The Civil War was how many fricken years ago? Let's move on from the fact that people look differently based on where their ancestors lived on the world and these different people had their skin pigments coloured differently because of their general location on the globe. Shut the hell up and find something of worth to b***h about. I really dislike when non-Caucasians complain about racism, simply because I was a prime target for reverse racism in my elementary school. The only reason I didn't go ahead and get a restraining order for a few of the kids was because I was in fifth grade and changing schools and the legalities of the issue vs. time wasn't worth it. I was a smart white girl in a school that barely made the 50% Caucasian mark. It probably doesn't anymore.
Since I've gotten away from my HS, which had all of three black kids 9-12, I've started playing rugby. I'm like, one of four white girls with all these crazy black girls. And I wouldn't change it for forever. I just wish people would stop bitching about the issue, because then it gets more attention and stays around for longer.
We shouldn't have been concentrating on the race of the presidential candidates, US2008, but what the hell they wanted to do with the country. And I don't necessarily believe that isn't why Obama was elected, but that's a whole 'nother bag of worms.
Point Three: Sexism happens. Just like racism. I'd like to think that it isn't as prevalent, but I don't really believe that either. I worked at a bar this past summer and if I dressed a certain way, our tips went up. I dressed a different way, they went down. My BFF keeps telling me that if we (females) were smarter, we would all be lesbians. Because boys are stupid and really piss us off more often than not. Said BFF is also gay, but not the point.

I Agree with alot of your points. But Then Again dear think about this. People NEED Something to b***h about. They always will. I think it's better focused on Race then that of like religion cause well there hasn't really been a crusade about races other then like Ludlow Masacre. . . which was on Indians non the less. Ironic. . . . no?

I put other because I am 1/16 Native American and it MATTERS cause that's how I learned all I know basically. And plus no one ever told me what white meant, how am I supposed to know? is it third-generation-American, British, Scandinavian, European...? confusing. But I think that American shoudl be its own race, including on tests...if you've lived anywhere for three generations, it fails to ******** matter. WERE ALL AMERICANS SO DEAL XENOPHOBES.

Well. The whole slavery thing. That was a pretty shitty thing that happened for lots of years. And how the Spaniards raped Mexico and S.America. And China trying to take over Japan. Those were pretty shitty, racist things to do. Two of which also had to do with the whole conquering the world dealio, but still.
We're all the same, really. Stop bitching about the differences and realize we all should be ready to move on. We're not Egyptians and Jews anymore, boys and girls.
And yeah, Kirbs. I agree. Like. I'm a ton Italian, and a ton British and some parts of Scandinavian and Czech and Slovak and Polish etc etc etc, but like. I'm American. And until I marry a foreigner (my track record is pointing towards yes, ugh), it's gonna be like that for the kids, too. Whatevs. Caucasian is the easiest, I suppose.

Oh, but come now. We aren't all the same. Not even close. There are some fundamental things -- the capacity for love, opposible thumbs, etc. -- but those are not necessarily more fundamental or more real than, say, an individual taste for spicy food, or a personal, irrational resentment of blondes. We are Egyptians and Jews and women and men and monsters. That those categories fall within the larger group of humans -- so what? There are still going to people you cannot understand parts of, who cannot understand parts of you. It's not immaturity; it's a limit on our worldview, but it's not immaturity, it's not something that can be risen above, or whited out, for our moral improvement.
