12 cars? Why not just make it 6 and call it the US Gran Prix!
xd Seriously, I floated a similar idea a while back:

Maybe they could have the Coors pole race the week before Daytona, and move the Bud Shootout to after race 26, have it consist of the 12 chase drivers, and have them be able to earn bonus points for where they finished, like have the top 3 spots give points, and 4th on back gets nothing. Sort of like the opening celebration for the chase.
It didn't fly. They made a good point in how long the season is, and we don't need to make it longer.
I say more racing is good racing!
