I'm still apprehensive to the word "magic".
And I apologize if this doesn't directly apply to the subject...
But I've definitely had a connection with my horse, E.D.
(I apologize for her strange name, it's pronounced "Eeedee")
I would never have to force her to do anything for me.
Even riding bareback without a halter, reins, or bridle,
she seemed to know what I wanted to be done.
My neighbor always said it was just because she was
just a "eager to please" kind of horse and that she could
just anticipate what I wanted by my weight shifting,
but I always thought it was something more.
I've never had a communication problem with her.
She just... knew me.
I wish I was still in touch with her.
Unfortunately, life takes unexpected turns.
Maybe someday I'll meet her again.

The Wizard course I'm working on right now has a whole department devoted to working with animals, whether it is as a familiar, a totem, or even shapeshifting and "borrowing".
There are also theories that animals can form spiritual bonds much like close human friends to, and may even communicate telepathically or subconsciously.

So no real workings with them. I did some silly things when I was a kid but I wouldn't consider that anything worth noting

I also have a connection with my creature. She is extremely smart, she comes when she's called, and she uses a litter box. I don't account that on magic (and I will spell it however I goddamn please).
I haven't 'tried' anything, but I'm sure that spiritual paths do mingle with the connection people will have with their pets.

I haven't 'tried' anything, but I'm sure that spiritual paths do mingle with the connection people will have with their pets. Are you the one that has the hissing roaches? I wonder what kind of magic could be done with them, or if you could have a roach familiar? I find it interesting to think about.

He's probably smarter than he lets on behind those beady little eyes. >.>

You have no idea how intelligent they can be. Earlier my rat was tugging on my clothes to get me to play wrestle with her, she's litter trained, and comes when she's called (I mentioned this before).
So in essence I do feel more connected with her on a higher level then I believe some people reach with their pets. I am more open and receptive to her moods/ behaviors so anthropomorphizing her every action becomes easy.
