Haden was sitting under the branches of an old spruce tree. It had been nearly ten minutes ago that he had tripped over a rock and decided on not moving from the spot he was now at until his parents found him. They were so stupid. How could they think that he was too young to hunt with them? He had tried to follow them, but had quickly fallen behind. They, unbeknown to him, had know that he was following and had outran him on purpose, trying to teach him a lesson. So there he was, with a bad temper, under the shade, cooling off in all senses of the phrase.

Ligeia was sitting on a tree branch watching the bird fly by. She frowned at them and tried to hit one that came a little to close. Getting up in anger she fluffs up her feathers and turns away from them. "Stupid things." She mumbles and walks across the branch.
After some hopping from branch to branch higher and higher she peered down. She was half way up a tall tree as she wiggled her but and jumped. At first she couldn't get her arms out far enough but quickly fixed that. Gliding downs she was staring at the branch that she was going to land on. It was close to the ground and wide enough for her to cling to.
But she was not good at landing and over shot the branch. She saw a flash of white, green and black as she came down on something soft. As soon as she landed something sharp poked at her and she growled.

Still rubbing his sore ankle, Haden was taken by complete surprise when a feathered creature crash landed right on top of him. Getting defensive, Haden was about to growl at the creature when the thing stuck itself on one of his barbs and growled itself. Shocked that not only was this creature a Dragonfly, but that it had the audacity to attack him and then complain when it hurts itself, Haden shouted. "What the heck is your fricken problem!?"
Pushing the pup off him, Haden brushed himself off and got up, his sore ankle long forgotten. Now that he could see his attacker better, he could distinguish green feathers coming off the female Dragonfly's forearms. This was his first encounter with anybody outside his family, so he wasn't sure if this was the norm outside his home. Before he could ask any more questions, though, he had one important one that needed to be addressed first. "Why did you attack me?" He interrogated, regaining some of his composure.

She didn't have time to think as she was rudely pushed to the ground. Her head was spinning around the fact that she had missed the branch. That was not an uncommon thing for her, but she never understood it. Blinking and peering at the pup growling at her she almost lost it. "What do you mean attack you! Why the hell would I attack you? What reason do I have? Unless you did something!" She looked around for a moment to see if anything was a miss.
Turning back and looking at him. "What the hell do you have on you that is so sharp! What is I had gotten cut on those things!" She growled and spread out her feathers on her arms to look bigger. "And what the hell were you doing under my landing branch!"

Haden was still slightly confused, but more upset than anything else. "I don't know why you would, but you did! All I know is that I was sitting here, minding my own business, and you jumped on me from up there." Haden pointed to the branches above.
"As for the pointy things, these are my barbs. I've had them since I was born, and it's not my fault if you cut yourself on them. You jumped on me, remember? And what do you mean your branch? Last time I checked, this was a free forest where anybody's allowed to go where they please!" Haden, of course, didn't really know this for a fact, but he wanted to seem like he knew more than he did. He puffed out his chest as the female spread her feathers, trying to match her size.

Ligeia looked up at the branch for a moment. "Hey! I didn't jump anyone! So don't think that I did or would." She was in a bad mood for two reasons now and glared at the other pup.
Still fluffing her feathers out she growls. "I don't see you in the branch there for it is mine. So it is not my fault that you got landed on. Would you walk into someone path along a path? No! You would get out of the way. So it is not my fault that you were in my path and didn't get out of the way." She watched him fluffing his fur and held back a laugh.

Haden took a moment to let what Ligeia had said sink into him. If what she said was true, then he had jumped the gun yet again. However, it still didn't explain why she felt it necessary to just yell at him and not apologize.
His mother had always told him to wait until he had heard both sides of a story before making a decision, so he took a deep breath and relaxed a bit, though not enough to ease out of his defensive position. "Ok. I suppose I overreacted a bit, but still, if you just put yourself in my shoes, you have to admit that you'd be upset too if somebody jump-I mean fell on top of you."

Ligeia huffed and looked away now letting her feathers settle down. "Yes I can see your point. But you should have been more aware of what was going on around you." She looked back at him for a moment. "And what if someone wanted to play with you or something? Those things on you could hurt them." She huffed and looked away again still upset.

"Yes, they do get in the way some times, but I see them as a special defense against my foes, and they never harm me, so I like them" replied Haden. "I've never actually had to use them, though, so I suppose they're a little unnecessary. Anyways, was there any particular reason as to why you were in the tree?" Haden's bad mood had ebbed away, and now was being replaced by curiosity. After all, this female had wings, which Haden assumed was no common trait. "My name's Haden, by the way."

"What have you been attacked before? Needing to use those sharp things to stay safe." Ligeia sat now and started to clean her feathers. "Well I like it in the tree better then on the ground. Plus as I'm sure you can see I have wings." She stopped cleaning them to show them off carefully then went back to cleaning them. "Also there are to many things on the ground that would love to remove me from here. Boars and bears. I don't have any parents to keep me safe so I have to do it on my own." She flicked her tail for a moment. "Well Haden. I be Ligeia." She paused for a moment before offering a bow.

Haden noded his head in turn. He could tell that he had misjudged this Ligeia's personality. She was no foe, she was just a young dragonfly whom was on her own and trying to survive the best she could. "No, I havn't faced an enemy that I had to use my barbs on, but it's just nice to know that I'm nicely protected. It's nice to meet you, Ligeia." He stood up and shook the leaves and dirt off him. "Yea, I noticed the wings. Do they perform fully, like fly? Or do you glide?" He walked around her, taking in the full form of her arms/wings.

Ligeia watched him walk around her and sighed a little. "The most I can do with them is gilde. If I find a upwards wind, I can get high into the air." She looked out at wings for a moment. "I wish I could fly, but I'm not strong enough. It takes alot of work just to stay air born." She looked up at the trees in thought before shaking her head. "Maybe when I'm older."

*Yes, I'm sure in time you will be able to fly* Haden responded. *After all, if you can already glide, what's there stoping you besides yourself?* Haden sat down again, wondering where his parents had gone to. He knew that just a mile or so back was his den, but he didn't want to leave Ligeia just yet. This was his first encounter of another dragonfly besides his family, and he wanted to enjoy it. If his parents got back before him, then that would be even better. Let them worry. Serves them right for leaving him out on the hunt.

She sighed and shifted a little. She really did want to fly, but from what she had seen her wings were to small to lift her body right. She peered at Haden carefully and looked him over again. She had over looked his markings before. "Did your parents have those nice markings too?"
