Kraes couldn't help but let out a mild sigh. Each of his four children were now teenagers. It wouldn't be long until adulthood came and many things would change for them. This was a turning point for Kraes, a moment to finally let the children know their origins and who they actually were. Sadly, he and his mate had decided to not let the children know until this point. Personally he would have rathered they knew from the beginning, he hated the fact of hiding his heritage, but he realized exactly why Briseis was against it and her reasoning for keeping it from them.

Musing, many thoughts were now trailing along his consciousness, threatening to betray the adult lion if he gave it the chance. Chewing his own lip, the lion pulled his head up just as he began to hear some noise coming around the mountainside...

Koiasi couldn't help but chuckle. Her brother was so weird! How he could stay so serious all the time was way beyond her. Life was a game, it was made to be adventurous and full of excitement and somehow he tried to turn everything into something boring. How sad!

With a roll of her head, Koi's eyes turned to gaze upon her oldest sibling, a slight purring in her throat as her tail flicked carelessly behind her. "You need to lighten up Jia." She stated in a voice that was steadily becoming deeper the older she became. It was quite a contrast to her usual child-like innocence that she tried so heavily to convey. "You're way too uptight." With that last statement she pulled her body passed the last bend in the mountain as her eyes settled upon the setting sun, and there in the distance was the reason they had came... their father.

To this whole fiasco, Jiathyn wasn't the least bit amused. Their father had called upon them like it was some secret mission, but he thought it was just a game, a game much like Koiasi tried to play constantly. Maybe she and his father had somehow worked out some large family outing in turn to 'loosen' him up as Koi liked to put it.

Still, Jiathyn seemed to regard the whole matter in a bit more of a serious nature than Koi was. How she could play around and tease so heavily about things that obviously needed some sense of honor or respect was something he would never understand. Koi was becoming a lost cause in his mind. "I'm not uptight." He defended himself. "I'm just not as careless as you are." He stated with a sharp edge to his voice. He was following some feet behind his younger sister, though as immediately as he saw the large lion standing on the rock's edge he too fell silent. His father looked serious, almost too serious even for Jiathyn. What could it be that had the older lion so preoccupied?

User ImageJericho could hear the voices of his siblings as he marched steadily along the trail that led to the mountain. The young lion racked his brain for possible reasons why his father would call all of them together, and an explanation as to why he had sounded so gravely serious when he had given the announcement. However, despite all of his efforts, Jericho came up with nothing that actually seemed possible.

As he rounded the corner, his eyes fell upon his two siblings, who were also just now joining the large adult lion that sat waiting.

Well, he would give the siblings answers to their questions soon enough...

User ImageThe glowing orb fixed in the sky blazed forth, warming her pelt to just the right temperature. How grateful she was. Not for the sun, nor the absolutely stunning day... No, she was far more appreciative for being blessed with a black lacquer coat. Afterall, everyone knew that the darker one's exterior, the greater the warmth received.

Sparwled over the surface of a rather flat and worn boulder afixed about halfway up the desolte mouth path, Jissele let out a sheepish mew before rolling onto her backside: her stomach was in dire need of the sun's gentle caresses. Unfortunately for her, her assumption of the boulder's surface area was flawed... landing her atop of her rump in a pile of dead brush.

"... ow..." she muttered in her usual delayed fashion. Slow and steady had always been her mentality. Placing the label of "lazy" upon the lone beast would be relatively accurate; however, it wasn't necessarily a negative trait.

"..." a quick peer around. Wasn't there a purpose for being in such an out of the way place?

A few more moments passed as she peered quite intensely at a small emerald beetle scurrying past her deflated tail.

"Oh... father and pups!" Jissele remembered. Pups was the the name she had adopted for her siblings. Something that had stayed with her since she was young. Finally remembering her purpose for the excursion in the first place, she gradually pulled herself to her paws and began the ascend up to the duration of the mountain path. Oh... what a bother.

Turning his head, Kraes couldn't help but smile just as the last of his children came rounding the bend into the pale cast sun that was permitting a soft rose color over the horizon. Stray orange rays bent their light over the male's white mane, giving him an almost regal appearance. Kraes stepped down, his tail shifting back and forth in a noncompliance as his eyes shifted over each of his children. His smile broadened as he viewed each of them, each of them with their black coats, each of them with their blue eyes, Koi and Jissele's pale blue eyes which mirrored his and Jericho's and Jiathyn's which mirrored their mother's. Jissele and Jiathyn both having his markings while Jericho and Koiasi took after Briseis. Yes, each one of his children were absolutely beautiful and he wouldn't have them any other way.

Taking a step near them, he gave each of his daughters a soft nuzzle against their cheeks, to his sons he lowered his head before touching each of their brows. "..I love each of you... never forget that." He stated in soft hushed tones. "Your mother and I both love each of you very much." He had to add that part in. He knew that he hadn't spent as much time with his children as he wished he could have, but alas... business had become a very big part of his life. "..There are things that I need to show you... prepare yourselves for a journey. It will be a long one."

As he saw his sister join them, Jericho smiled at her. He would have greeted her, but he noted that it appeared that their father was about to speak. Whatever he had requested this gathering for, it must have been very important; as a result, Jericho reasoned that he deserved the focus and attention of all of his children.

He lowered his head in turn and returned to his father the gesture of touching his brow.

"I love you, too," he replied. He had never doubted his father's intentions or feelings. He had always known that their father cared about all of them.

He listened intently as he waited for their father to continue the story.

Never had she seen such a grave expression on her father's maw. Though grave, it had been softened greatly by his immeasurable heart. It was this very aspect of him that allowed for her to nuzzle gently at his muzzle and than flop rather heavily about his paws... just as she had done as a cub.

With a gentle qoo, Jissele allowed her head to loll over her paws before glancing back up to the great mane of her father. Surely by journey... he meant a mental journey... and not one that involved actual movement.

[lol]

Moving one eye in his children's direction, he gave a furrowed brow when not one of them motioned to move upon his request. "That means now." He tried to put more urgency in his voice to get them all up. Moving down, he specifically nudged Jissele with his nose. "You too." Stating this, he took a step back and sighed. "I want you all ready to leave in two hours, no delays." After saying this he gave them one last look before disappearing behind the bend in the mountainside.

Sighing, Koiasi grunted as her eyes met each of siblings, "Do we gotta?" With a flick of her tail she began to solemnly lick at her paws to try and remove dust that had sifted its way between her pads.

"Yes Koi... we have to. He asks us so we go." Jiathyn stated without much enthusiasm himself. He was wondering just what his father had in mind for them, but he wasn't anymore excited about leaving as Koi was.

Obeying his father's cue, Jericho stood up and stretched. However, he was in no hurry the way his siblings seemed to be; after all, their father had given them two hours to prepare. How could it possibly take them that long to get ready? It wasn't like they had anything to pack.

He gazed at the cliffs and the vast silhuettes of the mountains, and he wondered if there would be mountains wherever they were going...

With a forlorn huff and her head plopping rather heavily atop her paws, she glanced between her siblings. Though rather expressionless more often than not, a pout played at her muzzle.

"... what could be so important that we couldn't talk... right here? Where it's sunny... and comfy... and doesn't require you know... moving?"

Another yawn erupted from her maw as she sprawled out atop of the ledge, her toes growing rigged with the stretch and her paw pads soaking up the warmth of the sun above.

"Oh... don't be such a spoiled sport Jissele! Where is your sense of adventure?" Koi gave a overly exaggerated fake smile in her older sister's direction that was a bit more easy going than she felt inside. Her mind was beginning to wonder into thoughts about rather they might very well be in trouble. Did she do something wrong? Shaking her head she couldn't think of a single thing that she had done that was disastrously unforgivable... unless... No, it wasn't possible for her father to know about that, was it?

Jiathyn, however, walked over to Jissele and Jericho, giving them each a quick and reassuring nuzzle while letting out a small sigh of his own. He was in just as much suspense as the rest of his siblings over what was so urgent. However, unlike them he felt no urge to complain about it in the same ways it seemed...

Finally after two hours of waiting, a long figure appeared out of the darkness, a slender figure with slick black fur. As the figure finall made it passed the first amount of cliff dwellings it was obvious it wasn't their father as they expected, but instead it was their mother. With a brief smile, she immediately and affectionately nuzzled each of her children. "My wonderful babies are growing up..." She said in a calm manner though it was obvious that there was much emotion in her words for Briseis never spoke much and when she did it was usually because what she had to say needed to be.

A couple of hours had passed after the siblings exchanged some words. Having managed to nap during this brief amount of time, Jissele rose to a start when her pride had become unusually quiet.

"Hmmm... what's the matter?" she muttered while attempting to stifle a yawn. A now dry tongue lapped over her maw as she peered about. Perhaps their father had arrived? Surely she'd be scolded for dozing. After all, he had stressed this was an important occasion, but alas... it was not.

"Mum?" Jissele blinked as her mother nuzzled at her. She hadn't expected to see her mom so the sudden love tap caused her to topple back onto her rump, "... what are you doing here?"

Appy, so sorry I've been scarce lately. I are teh fail. I'm really trying to get back into the groove though <3

He returned his brother's nuzzle.

As the time went by, Jericho began to grow impatient. His father had told them that they had two hours to be prepared, so he had expected the wait to take this long, but it felt much longer than the two hours that it actually was.

Glad to see his mother, he affectionately nuzzled her in return. "How have you been?"

But despite his joy, he noticed that this entire situation was getting wierder and wierder...
