Maybe the grew bored of it.
Updating a site and working to keep it online is no joke. And if you don't have the absolute interest in what you are doing then, such sacrifice is not worth.
The love for an anime/character can last for some years, but then it fades away, its inevitable. You can't be a fan of a show forever, you'd get sick of it.
