Since the budget is REALLY bad, they're thinking about cutting band Y_Y
It REALLLYY sucks. They might not. But they might. I'm soo terrified.
I can't afford to buy my own oboe and I'll never get good enough to play in college if I'm not playing in school.
It really sucks. :/

What do you think?

Aw, that sucks. I'm sorry that there's a chance that it might get cut, but I know that you can rent instruments; maybe that's an option you can take, as well as lessons, to keep up your playing. Otherwise good luck.

try joining a youth orchestra (if you can get enough money) I had to get a job over the summer to pay for the one I'm hopefully gonna get into, but its all worth it

This!

Go to your local school board meetings - these should be open to students. If they're not, then something's wrong with your system.

Tell them the statistics about music, such as:
-Helps memorization skills
-On average, students in band get higher grades
-Music is the art of perfection - maybe talk about the simple piece called "A+." The concept behind the piece is that many educational systems consider 97% an A+ grade. Using that, the band plays the piece two times. Once, they play it through correctly. The second time, each person plays a certain number of notes wrong - something like 3. Technically, everyone has an 'A+' performance, but it sounds godawful. Music is the only class where nothing less than 100% perfection is acceptable.

Do your research first, and read (and cite) articles such as:
http://www.livescience.com/health/070319_music_brainstem.html

Fight for your music courses. Let the system know that they're absolutely essential, and cutting them will do more harm than good.

Thank you!
We're all actually supposed to be writing persuasive letters also, to send to the state and I'm doing mine on why not to cut band, so that should help me out too. Thanks so much.

One other tip -- bring your parents along. If several parents will hint that if the music program is abolished, their votes will be going elsewhere in the next election, it should catch their attention. You can do so as well if you can vote.

That sucks, band wise!
Our choir and band actually get to stay in! (Hopefully). Our choir director made a showy offyness of the awards the two other choirs won in Seattle.
So, they might cancel the other classes, and make sure choir gets filled. o:

The thing is, they can't cancel things like band or choir in California. The schools need to meet the A-G standards. If they don't, the schools don't turn out nicely. Thankfully, choir and band are part of the A-G standards.
