i think that would help alot. make an obsticle course for him to go through, just teach him how to use it. i have loads of fun teaching my bettas tricks. jump is my favorite to teach and to watch
are you allowed a 10gal? if so you could do a small community tank. my first community was a 10gal, i had some corry catfish, honey gouramis, and of course, my big betta boy

10 gallons are only allowed in specified dorm buildings and I'm currently not living in one. You said obstacle course what kinds? Do you have any links? I heard of them for both betta and gold fish but never really looked into it.

How big of a tank are you allowed? Even in a small one, you could put some pond snails or something. They do enjoy playing with and/or eating pond snails. If he eats them, just take out the shells so they don't alter your water chemistry.

Eh, 10 gallons is the max they'll allow here in the dorm, but even then they don't like anything beyond a large fish bowl.
The semester is about to close in about a week, I'll be bringing the little guy home soon, and setting up my old 10 gallon for him.
Now this 10 gallon has some old tank decorating plants, and I'm sure I cleaned them with hot salted water and gave them a good rinse you don't think they'll be too much harm to betta fish do you...considering the last time I used the plants the fish died in the tank from some sickness I don't remember.

If the plants have soft leaves, they'll be fine. You want rubber or cloth, not plastic. Otherwise they can rip his fins.

I took him home for the vacation during the winter and his water was warmed and the chem levels were all good, but he was NOT happy in there! He never wanted to swim and just sat in his log the entire time and got swim bladder problems during that time. I put him back in his bowl after a few weeks hoping he would adjust, but he didn't. He got perky again when I put him in his bowl. What a picky fish. And here I thought more swim space would do him good.

Found out our suitemate wasn't taking care of her Delta tail betta, Hades so we took him after we found his bowl almost like jelly-ew-
She gave him to us. Hades has been with us for a week now. And now we have two fish swimming around in our dorms, in separate bowls of course though we let them see each other in their little holders while we cleaned their bowls. They flared and tackled the side of their containers. it was mildly interesting.
Hades was overfed so he went on a diet, last week, now he's eating again. ^^ Though I still think he has some badder issues. :/ crushed his food to make it easier on him.
He is a much happier fishy. who's a stupid fish, Hades? You're a silly one because you can't find your food because you want to kill me. While Legal is stupid because he thinks he's going to get the ladies but he's not...and he jumps out of his bowl when we're trying to fish him out for cleaning day.
I talk to my fish. >.>
