I'm sure you've all heard of Swine Flu. (And if you haven't, please remove yourself from the rock you've been living under for the past month.)
The majority of students at my school are not worried about contracting this flu. Simply because they think that the Southeastern United States has not been touched by the flu. And for awhile I thought the same. As if our region of the country would be safe.
There are now at least eight confirmed cases of Swine Flu in Florida.
This morning I was in the office at school and I overheard the attendance lady talking with another person whom works in the office about a boy who has been absent for four days (today being his fourth) because he is horribly sick with the flu. And his parents refuse to allow them to do any testing and send the results to the CDC.
Anyways: Are there any cases of Swine Flu near you? Are you worried about getting the flu? etc etc etc

This is really starting to irritate me, the media over here is going berserk going on about it and once more going totally over the top as they did with bird flu, I think its just another over hyped worry and it wont amount to much in the end anyway.
I remember them going "THERE HAS BEEN TWELVE CASES IN BRITAIN", I mean yes wow twelve people in a population of 60,943,912 yes I can see the worry, the horror and terror, the so called epidemic.
I am taking a total lackadaisical attitude to this, I don't read newspapers or watch the news because they generally spout lies or exaggerate everything, the rest is advertising in some form, I read the papers this once to see what they're saying about this and is just makes me wish we had some press censorship, to stop these idiots creating panic.
UNLESS I GROW HOOVES AND A CURLY TAIL I DON'T CARE.

Jesus, calm down.
I just think it's hilarious that people think that their country is completely immune to it or whatever. This girl was like "I LIVE IN FRANCE, SO I'M SAFE."
And there have been people in France who have gotten it.
There are at least 150 confirmed cases in the US.

Yep, there were confirmed cases and schools closed in our area. The media is really blowing it all out of proportion, thousands of people die from the flu every year, this is nothing new. Now it seems that everyone is sick in some way, shape, or form, but it's mostly allergies.

There's been some confirmed in my county.
I honestly fear it, but don't think I or anyone I know will contract it. Yes, H1N1 spreads quickly and with ease, but the chances of me personally receiving it are so freaking REMOTE.
They say it will get better in the Summer as the heat will kill much of the germs, but Fall will be so dangerous."If your stomach feels weak my work here is DONE."

UNLESS I GROW HOOVES AND A CURLY TAIL I DON'T CARE. I pretty much agree with you. On the flu part, and the part about the newspapers and such. That's why I don't typically read them or watch news either -- though sometimes it's funny when they take five minutes to say they don't know anything, say something redundant such as 'shot to death', or say something completely wrong. It's also funny when the news people trip up mid-sentence, or get so pissed off that they can't maintain nuetrality. That, and I got to watch Brian Busby try to be a smartass once when a caller made fun of him. He, umm..... failed, miserably. It was hilarious. Anyway, yeah. I think they're making it out to be much worse than it actually is. I mean, 150 cases in America. Awesome. That pretty much leaves 304,059,574 people who aren't sick, not counting anyone that's been born or died since last June. Granted that America has a positive rate of natural increase, it's more than that number. Point is, yes, we have the flu -- on a very, very miniscule level. I really don't care unless I end up getting it, in which case I'll probably just end up getting better after a few days of horrible screaming illness. And that's just fine with me.

Remember Bird Flu? Course not. Why? They made a whole lot of media fuss about it, slaughtered a lot of birds and it went away. This isn't the first time Swine Flu has been around and in Australia alone ((For I do not know the statistics of other countries.)) Up to 3000 people die every year from regular flu. How many people have died from Swine flu? Roughly 27. Sure 150 people have it. Wow... so they have a bit of a cold? A little bit of a fever? Really? That's all? MAN UP! You get sick you get treatment and your immune system can either fight it off or not end of story. Every week in Australia alone 200 people die from smoking related illness. But we're not going to stop smoking. So you know what? Go to the pig farms in Mexico and Canada where it all started, cull all the pigs, burn the immediate area, and leave me and my media platforms alone to once again indulge in bacon-y goodness.
As a mate posted last Sunday "Ninety people get the Swine Flu and everybody wants to wear surgical masks. One million people have AIDS, and nobody wants to wear a condom".

I just think that they need to get all the sick people in one big hospital room and keep them there.
And kill all of the pigs. :l
And maybe people will stfu.

Swine flu is the media blowing everything out of proportion again.
It's the normal flu. There are, what, like two hundred cases worldwide? And only twenty deaths, last time I checked. And all Mexican (yes, the one death in America was a Mexican kid whose parents brought it to America for treatment), and they were all either very young, very old, or very sick. These are the normal people who die from the flu.
It isn't killing healthy people. It's not some huge pandemic. Chill the ******** out.

Wait, a disease that's rampaging mexico and killing dirty spiks? Why are we complaining about such a thing?
I work with a lot of publicly used things so the chances of me contracting it are rather high.

If the food industry just cracked down and made stricter health regulations this wouldn't even be an issue.

If we got rid of all the spiks we wouldn't have a problem.
