Expecting this, Akane changed direction in mid-run, to his right, kicked off the wall, leaving a crater, and headed at Coterus from the spirit's left. Zanpakuto off to Akane's left, he planned to pass just behind Coterus and slice the creature's back. At the same time, yellow lighting, different from the typical blue, began to crackle around Akane. Coterus would most likely not be able to simply absorb this energy.

Being sliced by the attack coterus skidded backwards gripping his zanpakuto tight.

Likely before Coterus could look up and read Akane's intentions, Akane would point his zanpakuto at Coterus's chest and unleash an extremely powerful blast of yellow lightning, which moved faster than ever before.
