yeah they basically take fishy spit and air and blow bubbles that dont pop so easily. they then put the eggs in it. the fathers will also stick new fry into the nest. the reason why is because bubble nest fish are usually labyrinth fish (they breath air) so the babies need to be able to reach air and may not be strong enough. so if the dad keeps them in the nest for a day or two they will not drown.

I'm still finding the idea of fish spit a weird one. I mean, I had my fingers suckled and nibbled on by quite a few goldfish and ko, it felt wet but never slimey. Or is this different for labyrinthfish?

i think the fish has to want to produce spit. when they spit the eggs out they kind of "roll" them around in their mouth before spitting them out. it looks like they are trying to get it right razz

Now that is interesting, if they can really controll their saliva production. Wonder how often a fish has accidentally swallowed that way, it seems innevitable. On a semi related note; WTF?

A white egg? Well, I only really looked at anglefish eggs, so bettas may be different, but live eggs were transparent, and white ones dead... Hope that's not the case.

betta eggs are white and change color. but this egg isnt going to develop. i dont think they spawned when she dropped these. i think he was attacking her and they dropped. her belly was all cut up.
