I know we have specific threads on characters from this period and like who is your favorite marauder, but we didn't have a straight up marauder era thread. So I decided to change that.
Marauder Era is personally my favorite HP time period. The characters were marvelous. They had a ton less Voldemort drama also. So with this era we could see the action and them actually living their lives! I love the relationships throughout all the characters here and I love there are so many characters that we know so little about that we can make our own backstory for them! I guess that is the reason I paired up with Min to make the RP about the era, but I just love to discuss them!
So, let's discuss away midears!

I never really did any research on the era, mostly because when I read a book I read the book for it's story, and what's there is what's important. Plus I'm too lazy to get up and do the research, and I forget when I'm online. This being said, I do love the parts of the Marauder's era that are in the series, although I don't really like how James and the others acted in school. Of course, since he is my favorite character period, Sirius is my favorite of the group from this era. I actually did not sign up to do the marauder RP here because he was already taken, and so was my second favorite, Lupin. I also liked the insight it gave us on Snape. I didn't like him at all when I first started the series, and still did not for a long time. Then one day all of a sudden I didn't hate him anymore. It was interesting to think about it. I place part of the reasoning on the memory in the Pensive in book 5.

Yeah, James was certainly not the nicest person when he is jealous. Hehe smile . I have such a boring life that I research all the time. (I am so serious. biggrin )
I love how deep and complex Snape and really all the Marauder Era characters are. (:.

I love the Marauders' era characters. I think they're more interesting than the Trio's generation because basically all of the Gryffindor boys Harry spends time with are "nice." The MWPP era characters have more layers to them. Not that I don't like Neville and the Weasleys, but they aren't as complicated as the MWPP boys. James and Sirius were noble, but no one can argue that they were the nicest of people to all of their peers on a daily basis, which makes them more interesting. wink It doesn't hurt that I'm obsessed with Remus either. heart
I enjoy writing fan fictions that take place during that time because writing Sirius and Remus when they were young, and less jaded, is fun. James/Lily confrontations don't get old! lol The Sev/Lily friendship is fascinating, too.

Marauders Era? biggrin Really? mrgreen I get to just go off on the entire period? ^_^ Good.
I absolutely love the Marauders Era. I've loved it from the moment we got a glimpse of it in PoA. The James/Lily pairing is the absolute best, since we don't actually have to change canon to present other ways that they got together. The pranks from the Marauders are always creative. We get Severus, one of the most complex characters in the series. And James, Sirius, Remus, and Lily are all amazing characters to work with. Plus, I get Peter. An innocent Peter that is so fun to mess with. And I positively love messing with the little rat.
The possibilities are as endless as the human imagination really. And that might just be the best thing about that era: the endless possibilities.

Matelia, you're right; Marauder pranks are brilliant! Whenever I read a good one in a fic I'm always suitably impressed since I know from writing experience how difficult they can be to think of.

I love Marauder's Era! I love the more underground part of things. Sometimes the whole popular thing just gets a bit tiresome.
I have to say that Sirius, James, and Remus (I don't count Peter, he's a traitor) are much better than Harry, Ron, and Hermione. I'm sorry, I like the Golden Trio and all, but I like the old Golden Trio more.
The only thing I never really liked about them was the pranks they pulled on poor Severus. He was just a cute nerd, he didn't deserve that. But I did think they were pretty smart on the pranking end of things.
I also thought Snape/Lily was ADORABLE! I'm kind of confused as to why Lily chose James over Snape...I mean, at the time, Snape was better than James. But maybe I just missed something...
But yeah, Remus and Sirius are AMAZING! I love them together in fanfics, I'll read those for hours on end if they interest me enough. Yes, I'm a slash fan xD.

Honestly, I am utterly obsessed with Marauder's Era. It is my favorite time period by far. I love the characters, and all of the little adventures of fame and glory the Marauders have. The Snape/Lily drama is something that I enjoy, as well. Remus' transformations and the Marauder's silly fandom pranks added to that, and I am literally drooling over this period in time. I think I enjoy this era more than I do the actual Harry Potter story itself.
Not only do I enjoy reading fanfiction from this era, I also very much enjoy roleplaying it. It is a lot of fun to participate in the adventures and pranks the four boys love, themselves, especially when I'm playing as my favorite character, Remus Lupin. I love Sirius, as well, and adding OCs to Marauder's Era roleplay is always interesting.
I have to agree with the others here, though; the only thing I don't like about the Marauders is how terrible they were to another of my favorite characters, Severus Snape. He certainly did not deserve the mistreatment he received during his time at Hogwarts. It was this mistreatment that caused Severus to spend time with the wrong people, and, in turn, join Voldemort's cause. He deserved to be happy, and he deserved Lily's love.
I'm guilty of reading SiriusxRemus slash as well. xDD
