I undertook a divine quest to be the Repo Man this Halloween in February, and I'm sorry to say but everything looks HARD. D:

But I can't sew, sooo~

After much research, I actually settled on commissioning from one of Gaia's own lovely members. She has a commission thread set up on the cosplay forums. In the course of setting up, here is my information thus far:

The helmet is a modified paintball mask. The visor is clear, and the light is provided by four white and four blue LEDs on the top and bottom inside the helmet. The mask is divided into the top half, the mouth covering, and the crescent-shaped part that hooks below the chin.

The gloves are industrial-grade PVC, and you can find them at wholesale chemical supply stores online for $60-$100. The GeneCo patches for them can be made by sending a print of the design to a stitching store.

For the main part of the costume, I'm going with vinyl and heat-treated leather. I'm against full leather because it is extremely expensive and hot. Whatever material you use, it can get expensive- even at $8 a yard, that's still about $200.

Also, I have some pictures of the original costume being assembled if you'd like them.

Good luck!

Yeah, I have no knowledge of costume making at all, but here are many handy reference pictures. Good luck!

I dug through my old research and it looks like the average price for a Repo Man outfit, from scratch or commission, is relatively high. Not for the outcome, of course, but in general?

I spoke with a fellow on the Repo forums from Chicago, who made his from scratch and hadn't yet completed the helmet. It looked good, but he said the materials alone were $400. This followed the figures of a few other people I had met along the way.

While looking for a way to commission one, several cosplay sites were willing to modify an Orginization 13 outfit and sell it to me for around $200, but that's hardly the same and they all declined to even quote the helmet.

The cosplay seamstress I've found in whom I trust gave me quotes for the complete outfit minus shoes at about $600, and I'm not even fully certain I want to pay that much yet.

and that's about all I know about getting a quality Repo Man outfit. c:

I got a good deal on the exact shoes used for the movie by buying from surplus suppliers on ebay. They are 'Demonia Predator-1 Gothic Biker Boots'. They were $120.

There is a guy on the forums who was selling quality GeneCo patches for $4 because the company he bought them from would only sell with a minimum order of 10 patches.

Here are the closest gloves I found from a chemical supply store:

I found others that were much closer in style, but none of them came in black. I'm getting my gloves hand-made, if I go ahead with the commission, and online seamstresses who work with vinyl and fetishwear also often offer high-quality gloves.
