Silvanus and Gardenia, despite being an unlikely pair, have become terribly fond of each other. It might even be love, though it would be like pulling teeth to get him to admit it! Together, they've made three gorgeous eggs, and one of them is up for grabs in an RP contest! Here is the lovely:

Conditions and Rules
You must stick around! This foal is RP required - it won't be a heavy amount, or a strict requirement, but we do expect you to at the very least participate in some 'family' RP's. If you disappear for a long time (a month or more) without letting us (Satu Markula and Yuuka Kurokawa) know, we reserve the right to rehome this Kiring.
Answer the prompt as a foal, in whatever gender you'd prefer! The gender of the egg won't be known until it's certed, so just choose one for now. XD And roleplaying as an egg wouldn't give you a lot of range, so it would be fairly silly, wouldn't it? XD
We suggest reading the following material! This isn't required, but it gives some background info on both the parents and Kirin in general. At the least, if you're a newbie, you should skim through the Kirinpedia to get a handle on Kirin behavior in general. There are also two RP's from the parents that might be helpful: Deeper in the Wood, which is not centered on them but is how they met, and Stay With Me, a work-in-progress RP which tracks their journey to the Great Leap Waterfall, near which the two will eventually settle to raise their family.
All Guild and Shop rules apply here!
Write the following! Just to let us know you've read, understand and agree to these conditions - mostly the first - please type "Forest Flowers" in the appropriate place on the form. <3

The Family
Silvanus Silvanus, raised from an egg in a herd, has very rigid expectations of the world. His views on male and female roles are fixed - stallions protect, guard, and fight for supremacy while mares are, to him, supposed to fall in line, docile and meek, following whichever male proves to be strong enough to guard them. He himself was a herd leader for many seasons, until a 'young buck' as he calls the other stallion, defeated him and cast him out of his longstanding herd. Now, suddenly without the large extended family he is used to, Silvanus is rather at a loss. He likes Gardenia very much, but often she doesn't meet his expectations as to what a female should be. He is, however, very grateful for her ability to make him feel needed again. With her support, he is thinking of trying to start a new herd, with the Great Leap Waterfall as his base.
Gardenia Gardenia is, if anything, the polar opposite of her mate. Orphaned as an egg, she never knew a family. Her attempts to join a herd where rebuffed, leaving her to feel worthless and like a burden to others. On meeting Silvanus, she finally found a stallion who saw it not only as his duty, but as a privilege to take care of her in any way that he can. Still, she finds him and his views of the world a bit trying; she's very laid back and easy going, so can think of him as being too rigid and stiff.

Era Era, once hatched, will be a very timid thing. Striving to meet her father's expectations, she'll be something of a daddy's girl, terrified of doing anything he won't approve of.

Naoise Naoise definitely takes after his mother in his easy going, laidback attitude. Where his sister is cautious and obedient, he is far more willing to take risks - he also likes to push his fathers buttons, and see how far he can get with the older male. Most certainly could be called the wild child of the bunch.

Prompts
Choose one of the following prompts to answer! Feel free to do it in whatever form you want - third person is generally what Yuuka and I RP in, but if you're more comfortable in first, then go for it. ^.^
Prompt One Your father is very clear in his expectations of your behavior, and you've managed to break one of his cardinal rules. Which rule was it? Did you do it on purpose, or was it an accident, and how do you feel about having to face Silvanus afterwards?
Prompt Two With two such different parenting styles, Silvanus and Gardenia can easily be played against each other. Do you ever try and take this route when you want something, going to your mother first and talking her around, then having her deal with your father? Do you feel guilty about it, or do you figure that all is fair when it comes to getting what you want?
Prompt Three What's it like, having parents that seem to clash so often? Do their frequent arguments - despite the fondness laying under them - affect you in any way? Do you worry that they might split up, or do you know that they'll stay together no matter what? Do you ever wish that one or both of them were different?

Prompt Three What's it like, having parents that seem to clash so often? Do their frequent arguments - despite the fondness laying under them - affect you in any way? Do you worry that they might split up, or do you know that they'll stay together no matter what? Do you ever wish that one or both of them were different?
Prompt Response: Sylvanas had just crashed to the ground in the soft green grass with a long sigh, when her sister appeared out of nowhere, again.. Era: Do you ever do anything else then laying around doing nothing? the young mare said in a mildly sarcastic voice. When Sylva did as she always did and just ignored her sisters inquiry, she irritatedly turned around and started walking back where she came from, mumbeling high enough so that Sylva would hear: Oh you are sucha a cloudchaser... The only effect Eras words had was to put a smile on her sisters face as she rolled around her legs pointing to the sky in quite a silly fashion. She know others deemed her lazy but she dident care much. She dident care much of others at all. They all seemed so stressed, so eager to be something, to go somwhere, to please someone.. She let out a long drawn sigh again when she came to think of her dear parents. Ofcourse she loved them both to death, but for her life she couldent understand eather of them. Least of them her father, and her sister were no better. Always running around Silvanus to copy everey move he made.. They both just needed to relax and appreciate what they had, and not looking for tomorrow while forgetting today. She watched the clouds passing her by in the sky, trying to imagine how it would actually feel if she had wings as her sister had commented. Not that it was THAT meaning her sister had meant. She conlcuded that if she had wings, she would never come down again. Her thoughts floted off to her mother. Well, at leaste she wasent as stressed as the others. But she dident understand her mothers need for her father. Why she stuck by him? All the arguments about such idiotic and small matters, all the rules her father made up about such silly things. She shook her head laying there in the grass. No her family was wery little like her. But she dident mind that as long as they dident try to change her. Her father tried to... Suddenly she heard something in the grass to her right. But laying upsidedown in the grass she couldent se much that wasent really close. She was just about to roll around and get up to se what was making the noice when her brother came flying throught the air and landed with a THUMP on top of her. Naoise: Got you! he said with such a big smile she couldent help laughing at him. Sylva: Would you mind? you are crushing my lungs! she said squirming under his weight. Her brother jumped off her and took a quick look around before informing her that "the old fart" said they had to move and he was here to get her. She got up on all 4 again and shooked off the grass still sticking to her before wandering off with her brother. Her mind immediatley drifting of to new things to ponder.

Username: Azael_Rose Kirin Name: Tiare, or Tia for short if female. (Tiare māori is also commonly known as Tahitian Gardenia) What are you supposed to write? Forest Flowers Prompt Chosen:Quote: Prompt One Your father is very clear in his expectations of your behavior, and you've managed to break one of his cardinal rules. Which rule was it? Did you do it on purpose, or was it an accident, and how do you feel about having to face Silvanus afterwards? Prompt Response: It was just another day for Tiare, her brother had been busy teasing her timid sister, and she was once again the peace keeper. Except this time her father had seen her. He wasn't too keen on the idea of females taking the lead in any matter unless it was rearing foals; and Tia was too young for that. He always expected her to listen and follow obediently to his numerous rules but what he didn't know couldn't hurt him or so she thought. "Naoise! Leave her alone right now!" She stamped her front hoof showing she meant business. Her brother nipped at Era's tail one last time, then he finally turned to Tiare. "Come on, it's just a little fun!" Tia shook her small body in response, her mane whipping her head as she did it. "It is not, look you've made her upset!" She moved in between the two, giving her sister a quick nuzzle. Before he could protest anymore, their father appeared before them. The look on his face made it clear that he was not happy, and just for a second Tiare thought he might be unhappy with her brother and not her. That wasn't the case. "What are you doing, Tiare?" His voice seemed louder and more agitated then normal. She stammered, "I...I'm..." He didn't wait for her answer, his mind already made up. "You're not doing anything! Remember your place little one!" The words hit her point blank in her chest, and her eyes welled up. This is the last time...she thought. Tia raised her head to look up at her father, and her ears flattened. "I'm...just protecting Era unlike you!" The young foal felt shaky standing up to her father, her legs slightly wobbly. She could feel the adrenaline rushing through her body as she stood her ground. The stallion stared at the foal, unable to comprehend what exactly just occurred. His own daughter was standing up to him? He snorted and lowered his head, his eyes wide with out right anger. "Do not patronize me, child!" He reared up and slammed his front hooves into the dirt just inches from Tia. But the little foal stood her ground, not even a flinch as the soil underneath her buckled from the impact or when her father's long horn came perilously close to her own smaller one. Disappointed with the lack of reaction he recomposed himself and raised his head high. Unable to hurt his own for such a small moment of insolence, he walked away leaving only but a few words for her. "I'll be watching you, Tiare." Tia held her place even after her father walked off. Her legs threatened to collapse and she finally settled down on the ground. Looking around, Tiare realized she was alone and her siblings had most likely disappeared before the conflict. Though her body shook, inside she could feel something build and grow stronger. From that day on she knew she would not follow in line like the other mares. She was her father's daughter, there was no changing that fact, and she would lead and protect.

Forest Flowers Prompt Chosen:Prompt Two With two such different parenting styles, Silvanus and Gardenia can easily be played against each other. Do you ever try and take this route when you want something, going to your mother first and talking her around, then having her deal with your father? Do you feel guilty about it, or do you figure that all is fair when it comes to getting what you want? Prompt Response: He watched with hooded eyes as his mother talked his father into doing something he wanted and had to hid a grin least it give away that this had been what he had been planning from the start. He loved them...in his own way but he knew without a doubt that if he wanted something he had to use his mothers nature against his fathers. It didn't always work since his father could be stubborn but it worked more often then if he had tried to convince his father directly. Strife was true to his name in this respect and didn't believe he was doing anything wrong. It wasn't like he was hurting anyone, just getting what he wanted. Slipping away from his parents Strife went to find his siblings, perhaps he could cause a little mischief with them to help pass the time before his mother finally convinced his fathers at seeing things his way. Besides, it was always fun watching Naoise when he got going, so much lovely chaos and none of the blame falling on him.

Username: Tygress Dream Kirin Name: Niade What are you supposed to write? Forest Flowers Prompt Chosen: Promt 3 Prompt Response:
Niade awoke in the night to sounds of her parents arguing... again. Niade cringed away from the sounds; she hated conflict. As usual it seemed mother had decided to do something on her own, and that didn't suit father's view of the world.
Something within Niade silently rebeled, routing for their mother. Something didn't seem quite right with father's restrictions. Niade knew she could learn just as well as her brother how to look out for herself and her family. In fact her brother definately didn't fit the role their father was training him for. "I want to do more than laze about grazing while the males take care of everything," she grumbled, getting to her hooves.
She tried not to make too much noise as she trotted a slight distance away, still within the circle of her family's sleeping place but with more of a buffer between her and the argument. As she settled down to try to rest again things finally calmed down. She watched as her parents returned to check on her, her brother and sister. A sigh of relief, it was over finally they'd have peace for some time before something reared up again. I wonder if all families are like this... she thought to herself as she closed her eyes to settle back into sleep, secure in the pressence of her devoted parents. In spite of everything they remained together dedicated to each other and their children... and that was as it should be... always...

Username: IvoryRyu.20 Kirin Name: Opulious What are you supposed to write? Forest Flowers Prompt Chosen: 1 Prompt Response: Prompt One Your father is very clear in his expectations of your behavior, and you've managed to break one of his cardinal rules. Which rule was it? Did you do it on purpose, or was it an accident, and how do you feel about having to face Silvanus afterwards?
Opulious was a young foal he had the wisedom of his father but also the grace of his mother and was easily obiedant as well as adventurous. Being the middle personality foal he tried to balance out his wild brother and keep his shy sister always in the sight of there parents. Knowing her father Opulious would frolick around. It was then she noticed naoise running off she didnt want her brother to get in trouble again for being wild on his own so silently she got up and followed after her brother determined to see what he was up too and to keep him from trouble.
As she walked in silent shadow behind Naoise she noticed him come to a meadow there the young colt was roaming around a muck. He was bucking and ramming the trees like he was a stallion all ready opulious knew her brother didnt listen well to his parents and approached him. She had already broken her fathers rules of never leaveing there side and not being an adult when they werent ready to be adults. Opulious knew she would have to face her father after this but she had to see where her brother went. With this knowledge Opulious did the small hike back to where her family was knowing her father was probably awake from gaurding them she thought of what she would say as she got nearer her hopes were high to face her father for most of the times he understood her and what she did for to him she was a combination of him and her mother together.
As she approached she saw her father looking down to her with slight angry eyes. It was then opulious opened her mouth and said "I know father i broke the rules and face my responsibility and punishment here and now. But before you say anything the reason i left was to follow naoise and see what he was up to for his own good. He never listens to you father and i was worried this lead to another one of your quarrels between you too. Also he was off at the top of the meadow it looked like improveing his fighting stances like he was a real stalllion. Okies i told you i am here to except whatever you may seem fit thank you father for listening." Opulious said with a smile it was then silvanus opened his mouth and spoke "Ah my sweet girl your always so worried about your family. But you did break the rules and for that you will be haveing to stay by your mothers side and mine for a week and no frolicking around and playing i did a week cause you came to me with your head held high. Please do not leave or at least leave without telling us your precious to me and your mother so please listen and dont leave." Silvanus said and gave his daughter a nuzzle as he left on. Opulious just looked to her father and smiled then said "I wont leave father thank you for your kindness." With that her words fluttered with the wind and entered her leaveing fathers ears as she settled to rest againn beside her mother.

Username: Cornetified Kirin Name: Kanobi (male) What are you supposed to write? Forest Flowers Prompt Chosen: Prompt One ((Your father is very clear in his expectations of your behavior, and you've managed to break one of his cardinal rules. Which rule was it? Did you do it on purpose, or was it an accident, and how do you feel about having to face Silvanus afterwards? )) Prompt Response:
Kanobi is to Silvanus like a human son who loves dancing is to a football fan father. Both children may want to make their fathers proud, but their separate desires make it difficult. In Kanobi’s case, he longed to be a healer. He just wanted to learn how to help other kirin... Lying in a field of wild flowers, he looked over at his powerful father with a sigh. He didn’t like when the adult watched him like that, and wondered what he was thinking.
His father had a different idea for his son. Silvanus dreamed of both his sons becoming leaders of their own herds. Naoise was a bit of a trouble maker, but at least he had spunk and charisma. He would be good to lead a herd, once he got a bit more discipline. His youngest boy though… Where was the fire? Where was the drive? He shook his head and turned to look for his favorite little girl.
Kanobi looked away again, back to the flowers before him. Another adult had told him theses ones in particular were good for belly aches... He jumped up with a start as a loud crash sounded to his left. Not him again…
“Hey there dullhorn!” Sneered a male foal that was a few months older and big for his age. “Whatcha doin now? Lookin’ at the pretty flowers?” He said teasingly. A female and another male following behind snickered as well. His regular cronies.
Kanobi scrambled to his feet and started backing away. “Leave me alone Nevin.” He said softly. He wasn’t a fighter. He knew that Nevin picked on him just for that point. Nevin was a fighter.
“Come on, I bet your daddy would want you to have the practice. At least my dad isn’t ashamed of me! He can birth a son any father would want. Too bad yours can only breed weaklings like you and your sister. I’ll admit though, your brother’s okay. Somewhat.”
“Your dad may like you enough, but I bet your mom wishes she’d cracked your egg long ago.” Kanobi grumbled, louder than he had meant to. ‘Oh, no…’ He started backing quicker.
Nevin’s eyes widened in surprise, and then narrowed in anger. “You just stepped in it, big time.” He grinned from the excitement of what was about to come. The other male also stepped forward, the girl sitting back and smirking. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It wasn’t for a few hours until Kanobi returned home from the field, bloodied and limping slightly. He bit his lip, knowing his father would be upset when he saw his son beat up again. He froze though when he saw his father, and when the adult male saw him. Kanobi’s ears flipped back fearfully. His father looked positively livid.
Silvanus stood quickly, as if trying to rein himself in. “Kanobi. Not only did you allow that boy to insult yourself and your family, you allowed him to take advantage of you on your own land, again,” The father’s face started turning a shade of furious red. “-and where did you ever learn of using such vulgarity against another's mother?! I taught you better than to act such a disgraceful way, especially in front of a lady!”
So his dad had seen the entire thing?! Cringing away, Kanobi had the brief thought that the female back there was nothing like a lady, but decided it was best to keep that to his self. As usual, whenever Kanobi was faced with a big problem, he stayed silent, letting his father rant on about morals and birth and nobility. Arguing that Nevin was stronger would get him nothing. After his father had exhausted his yelling resources, Kanobi peeked up as Silvanus’ head drooped in disappointment. “I doubt you’ll ever get a herd of your own.” He said; his version of an insult. It was meant to shoot the boy with guilt. Watching his son sit silently with no reaction, he got up and started walking away. “You’ll never get anywhere if you don’t stand up for yourself at all.” He knew his son though, an knew that shame was in that still and small body. That was punishment enough.
Kanobi sat rooted in place for at least an hour after his father had gone. He wanted to say so many things. How he thought fighting only caused more fighting. How he didn't want to lead a herd. How interesting he found the art of healing. How he longed to see approval in those narrow green eyes. How he yearned for honor of his own, but not through trying to beat others into submission. He knew, though, that his father thought children were meant to listen to their parents, to follow the rules, to do as they say. Father said fight, and he did not. He couldn’t even manage to pretend to fight, even though his brother had tried to help him. He bet his sister would be able to fight better! He had handled his father’s anger like he handled everything else; passively.
Finally, he got up and followed after his father to the nest, placing his hooves in the deep indentations his father’s had left in the damp soil. They were so much bigger than his own prints… Would he ever be able to measure up in his father’s critical eyes?

Username: hawaiiancat2007 Kirin Name: Ceridwen (male) What are you supposed to write? Forest Flower Prompt Chosen: Prompt 3 Prompt Response:
With a sigh, Ceridwen lay down and gently folded his legs underneath him. It had been a very long day today. Too long in fact. Then again, what days weren't? With his parents doing nothing but bickering all day, one of his siblings simply edging them on and the other being all 'daddy's little girl'. No. Every day had to drag on, with screaming and angry voices filling his mind all the time.
He was only a foal, it wasn't fair! Why couldn't they just get along for his sake at least? Then again, no one really payed much attention to him. With Era sucking up to them all the time and stealing the limelight, compared to Naoise who seemed to live to anger them and steal the light for himself, he was left as the quiet one on the side with almost no attention.
He knew it was futile to even consider that it would stop; but hey, it was worth a shot. I mean, a foal can dream, right? But there was no way on Earth, unless hedgehogs could fly and everything turned upside, that they would ever get along. Why did they even bother to try? He snorted in annoyance to himself, not that anyone would have noticed if he did it loudly anyhow.
Somehow I doubt the two will ever stay together. Look at them, with all that bickering is there even any room left for love? Bitter tears welled up in the foals eyes. It wasn't fair. His siblings were just fine with it, but where did he fit into this family? He hated his father's strict rules, and his mother never disciplined them at all.
Raising a hoof, he pawed at his face to try and wipe the tears away. He hated them. He hated his family. Why didn't they settle their differences? Why couldn't they change? Why couldn't he have been born to another couple, any other couple? At least he managed it through the day. That was a plus. At least he was alive. That's what he old himself anyway.
I wish it was different. Why can't they love each other properly? Why don't they love me? If only father would lower his expectations, or mother step up to his. The arguing would be gone, we'd be a happy family. Aren't Kirindae meant to change for the ones they love? There you go, my proof there is no love. The foal's thoughts grew more depressing every second. He hated it. He hated them. He needed to get away.
Why was life so unfair?
