The Broken Souls
A sudden disappearance of unusually large amounts of hollow and pluses throughout Karakura lead the Vizards hold an investigation of the situation. A curious set of mysteries pertaining to varying locations where hollows were killed by unknown caused with the only remaining evidence of their death being fragments of their masks being left behind.
At the time these fragments had little meaning other than someone out there was up to something. The vizards at the time decided it was best to keep their presence in the matter discrete until the true
purpose behind such affairs could be determined.
In due time the vizards had discovered that a great deal of hollows were being created by foreign technology located at a series of facilities spread throughout the three worlds. Knowing the shinigami and their tendency to kill anything and everything, without bothering to fully understand or explore it, led to the AoM sending out a series of highly trained professional vizards.
Upon further research, the vizard discovered that these mass produced hollows were in fact “failed attempts” at creating a being of greater power. At first the vizards questioned what could be the end result of successful transformation that these creatures were attempting to become. Later an intercepted message from Gotei revealed the truth behind these failures; "Minuses" or Broken Pluses. A fraction group of Pluses, who were able to remove of their spiritual chains and reached a point similar to that of a half hollow, half plus state.
It turned out that the Broken Pluses were collecting portions of hollow mask fragments to create Picaso like mask for themselves, giving them accesses to the form hollow’s powers and abilities to some extent. Broken Pluses in the end were the individuals who survived the process of breaking off their chains and freeing themselves from the bond. Mass Produced hollows were those that didn’t and in the end were injected with a piece of mask to stabilize them, however they are able to control and summon these mass produced hollow at will.
