FYI for the OP, there's not such thing as swing flag fabric. You're probably talking about either poly-china silk or a lam'e, neither of which is good for clothing but nor are they exclusive to swing flags. As someone who's made uniforms and flags for many years and more recently started designing, I'd like to point out that it is all too common to find staff-members with no taste, no concept of function, and no visualization skills (so they can imagine the picture on the field or make a sketch from their own ideas of what would look good). I'm also routinely surprised by the guard members' taste. Sometimes they look at uniforms and think they'll hate them but end up liking them becuase they get good reviews from judges and the audience. Sometimes the reverse happens. Sometimes they describe things they like and then end up hating what's put together. Sometimes they describe what they want becuase it looks pretty and not becuase they can spin in it. Uniform and flag designs are always a roll of the dice as to what's good that year, what works with that show, what looks good on that year's guard members, etc. Sometimes criticism is too harsh and sometimes it's not harsh enough. Success also depends on the available money and the skills of the staff and volunteers to make the flags and uniforms or to shop around until a good deal is found.

what stinks about our guard is you have to be in band to try out and then most people in it arn't even good cuz they only join so they don't have to march w/ instruments....anyways, like I said, our school doesn't treat us fairly because we are just 'with the band' not an actual 'team'....whatever, thats why we don't get new uniforms except like every 10 yrs....
