Don't expect this to be all that harsh becuase I love Astan. I find his quirkiness and the tangents and weird thoughts he has in conversations to be refreshing, they should probably never change. It might get him into awkward spots but hey makes for better more realistic rp.
Though he is music themed you should probably make more mention of his day job, it's still a big part of who Astan is and opens up other avenues of rp options for you.
Spark Ideas.
Magicker: You'd have to ditch the bands current Vocalist but a magicker spark with projective empathy, that could make the audience feel what they sing ( not the words but the intended meaning/ feeling) you're supposed to get from the song would be pretty cool and useful. obviously proto stage cannot do this or be seen but could practice honing it's skills until alter. depending on what you did with Varis , the Essentic could actually become his copy and fully replace him so no one ever knows, they just think he got better.
I can't think of anything at the moment but there's a whack of things that could be done spark wise from the construction point of view.

I kind of see Varis and Pig as being necessary for personal life-related conflict, but that could change if the group ever breaks up.

Yes, Astan is completely sane and will almost certainly stay that way. hehe I need to get him out to meet some of the not-so-sane though. Should be fun fun fun
