This was something a friend and I were talking about the other day. With the world or at least the US at such a struggling time .... people loosing their homes, jobs, houses, cars...... we have to stop and think.
I recently heard on the news that some "sports" (I won't say names) player was demanding more money on his next contract. He was making like some tremendous millions of dollars. What? Why on earth do we see fit to pay people who play sports that much money?
Now that we are on the subject - why on earth should someone make 2.5 million dollars to do one movie. I think our world has gone crazy when we can pay people (famous or not they are just like you and me - human) that much money to do a job.
I know brain surgeons, chemist who are trying to find a cure for cancer that do not make 1/10 of that amount. Why do we allow that much to be paid to the rest of the world for something they do to "entertain" us - I mean please do we really get that much from it?

Frankly I don't think they should -actually- be paid that much, instead the thesbians should ACT like they're getting a huge paycheck, that'd sort the good ones from the bad

The use of the word 'actors' here I feel is misleading, for these are celebrities. Whats important to remeber is that this is how much there jobs are worth, there is a huge market for entertainment, and it will sell well to many different target markets. While this seems ludicrus you have to remeber that human beings are selfish creatures, and while I'm sure many many people have this oppion on celebs and even sports players, they would rather spend the money on a cinema ticket or trashy magazine, or a ticket to the match then donate it into, for example, healthcare. A celeberity is worth the money they are paid to make a film, therefore they in context get a similar wage to a cashire. admittedly the cashire works for little credit, and cannot sell his/her story to the press, but both are reciving a percentage of what the boss makes, and recive as much money as they are worth to the system. The reason I got picky about the word actor is due to the fact that very few actors are paid millions for a film, many are paid just enough to eat for a show, and won't come out any better known for that show, but it is the life people lead to follow a dream and a passion. Another important element to me on the subject is that being a hollywood celeb seems to require you signing your soul away for a nice house. With having paps following you about to report that you look 'ten years older' or are 'piling on the pounds' or ever worse to stalk you to sell storys of your depression or battle with drugs, each photographer trying to catch you in a worse state than the next. I don't think this lifestyle can really be branded as 'easy' or even overpaid. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in love with celeb culture, and I don't mean to sound arse-licking. Belive me I'd adore a brain surgeon to be paid more than an entertainer, to save lives, I simply feel that it is not really possible, and there is nothing to blame but human greed.
