Rubbing his forehead, Reike was simply tired. He had been helping out cleaning the Weyrling weyrs, the empty ones that hadn't been used for a while; or cleaned. Now that he could nearly hear the floor squeaking, okay not really, he was completely worn out and he could hardly see from the sweat in his eyes. The heat outside didn't help much. Sighing, he scratched at his head; he has noticed a few others doing the same, but it didn't cross his mind much.

Now he was leaning up against the wall outside of the building and enjoying the sun, just soaking it up. The whole Weyr seemed to be active today; it was nice out, so why not? There were Weyrling lessons going on, dragonriders going about their own business, and workers and candidates earning their keep by doing good old manual labor.

Course, he had been doing it his whole life, being born at the Weyr. Now, though, he was putting just that much more effort into it, being a candidate and all. He had made a few friends over the years, but a lot of the candidates who didn't impress would go home, and if they did, they were too busy to talk to him now. None of that bothered Reike, though. He was a single child and thus used to spending a lot of time alone. Of course, he attended every social event he possibly could, and was usually part of the clean up crew after.

Reaching for his flask of water, he looked up into the warm sky as he took a deep drink, his blue eyes bright in the natural light. There were dragons flying overhead; heading to the ridge to sun, or even going off on errands. He mused about in his head on if he would ever Impress. In a lot of ways, he would be happy even if he didn't, just simply living at the Weyr.

Hearing a sudden burst of chittering behind him, he turned to see a confused looking Firelizard popping from between, then darting off to find their human. He laughed slightly. The tiny versions of dragons had always amused him.

((ooc// Not very good. I'm short on a muse but my quality will go up if someone else is there to respond to. @_@))

Today began just like every other day.

After scarfing down her breakfast, Nandeli had made a beeline for the kitchen to catch up with her friendly neighbourhood tuber peelers. Apparently the whole Klah-Off kiss was Big News, and she was very happy to fuel any potential rumours that Nelioa had a crush on Sovann. After all, she had stopped choking when he kissed her on the cheek. Imagine what she might have done if he'd kissed her on the lips!

This whole kiss on the cheek thing had also sparked a new rumour – started by yours truly – that Sovann had only kissed the girl because Okassis had asked him too. Was something going on between them? A one-sided crush? It was up to the Nose to find out, and she was already on the move!

The gossip extraordinate came trotting down one of the passageways and out into the Bowl, pausing to look around. Spotting Reike, she hurried over. "You wouldn't have happened to see a guy run by this way, would you? About this tall, poorly styled hair, thinks he's straight?"

Quirking an eyebrow at Nandeli, laughing slightly. "Uh, no, sorry. Just got outside." He took another drink, wiping the hair from his eyes.

"You're Nandeli, right?" He was born there, after all, and had seen her quite a bit. "Also, how many guys at this place think they are straight, but everyone else knows they aren't?"

He laughed a bit, trying to be friendly. Hey, he needed more friends. "But seriously, I haven't, sorry."

Nandeli gave a small disappointed sigh. Ah well. She couldn't expect every boy to be as nosy as she was. Most of them could barely be classified as attentive, much less actually interested in the goings on around them. But she was used to that. Besides, this guy might know something about Sovann even if he hadn't seen him.

Her eyes lit up when he said her name, face breaking out into a grin. "That's right! You can call me Nan if you like. Whatever you want." She paused for a moment, studying him, before she said, "You're Reike right?" Rek, Reik, Reike, something like that. All she knew was that he definitely looked familiar, which was a sure sign that he'd been her for a while.

At his question she simply grinned cheekily. "Ah, wouldn't we all like to know that one? But I'm sure this guy is at the very least bisexual. Absolutely positive, in fact. He wrote a song about his best friend, his best male friend and it was totally one of those songs that boys write about the girls they like. I've heard them so many times before. But you didn't see him? That's disappointing. Were you at the Klah-Off?"

Veyes had spent the his early morning in the meat locker but now he was cleaned up after the long hours and looked forward to a short time to himself before getting caught up in any other chores or candidate lessons. Actually, he was more eager for nightfall when he'd meet up with L'thor to learn how to stitch straps. He was appreciating this extra mentorship and hoped eventually that all this hard work would bring about good things for the future.

He hadn't been paying too much attention when he walked into the bowl thinking he could maybe play a few rounds of Migsy with his marbles prior to candidate lessons. Even he needed a break from the load of chores every once in awhile to clear his head and maybe take a few moments to dream of the future. So as he walked towards his favorite spot to play clasping his bag of marbles and considering his game, he hadn't realized there were others around until he was almost upon them.

Looking up, he suddenly focused in on two people - one boy he didn't recognize and the other....a girl that from what he had seen was a bit too talkative for her own good. Thankfully, he realized they were there before he completely ran into them, "Ah...Mmm...hello. I wasn't paying attention...didn't mean to interrupt."

Reike grinned and nodded. "Alright, Nan. Yeah, thats my name, not really a way to shorten it, though." He said, shrugging. Leaning against the wall, he shook his head. "Nah, I didn't go to the Klah-off, I wasn't feel to well that day. How was it?"

Looking up just before the other boy did, he nodded and glanced at the bag in his hand. "Oh, no problem. You didn't interrupt anything." He said, smiling and nodding in a friendly way.

Veyes smiled back at the other boy and nodded toward the girl, "Ah..thanks.. mmm....I'm Veyes, Nice ta meet ya." He then glanced around noticing that the boy had seen his bag. "I came outside to play a game of Migsy since I had a little time to spare. Usually, I play in this area because the dirt is pretty even and I probably won't lose any of the marbles. Do you know the game?"

His fingers loosened on the bag slightly and dipped in to pluck out a larger dark blue marble to roll between his fingers. He wasn't sure how common Migsy was in other areas of Pern but he knew it was a game that did travel to a few holds and several kids around his hold played it. Fortunately, his brother and mother had collected marbles for him from the Traders and some times at the Gathers so his collection was usually enough for more than one player.

"Aaw, that's too bad. It was pretty darn awesome. We got a bronzerider and the Candidatemaster to come over and try the klah! Not to mention there were certain prizes for the first girl to taste the klah." She winked, resisting the urge to giggle at the memory. Poor Sovann. He probably wouldn't be too happy with her once word got around about him and Nelioa being involved in a secret love affair, but that was okay. She was pretty used to people not liking the rumours said about them.

She looked away from Reike when another boy arrived, a small, thoughtful frown forming briefly on her face. "I've seen you before, haven't I? Were you one of those boys who was trying to yell help down to Westren? That one boy who was looking for someone in the girl's section?" Nan could have sworn it was this guy. Regardless, she committed the name to memory. "I'm Nandeli, and this is Reike. Is Migsy that game with the marbles?"

Veyes paused knowing that the answer might reveal more than anything he'd want to admit especially to this girl. However, now he had a name to the face rather than "this or that girl" he could finally say...."Ah...nice ta meet you, Nandeli...and Reike. How are you both doing? Ready for the hatching to come?" He figured that was the best neutral conversation he could start out with because talking about the future hatching was common place in the Weyr. Athough that other questions plagued him for a second then he responded, "Umm...not sure actually, I know several who have gotten lost coming into the Weyr and I have lent a hand." He glossed that one over knowing she would probably assume whatever she wanted but it might keep him from getting caught up in some future mishap.

He nodded as he held up the sack giving it a small pat, "Yep...it is a game with marbles. Used to play it quite a bit at the Hold. It's pretty popular around the holds from what I have been told. Do either of you play?" The game was much better if there was more than one but usually Veyes imagination filled in the gaps when he was alone so he never got bored when he played.
