Spring 2009 Mission Contest
Time acts like a book, keeping records of past deeds. Given recent light of how time writes itself onto the book, it has been deemed essential for us as human beings to write our our stories. Our own experiences. Our own ties of the heart. Our own battles against tremendous odds. And of course, against time itself. As time eventually consumes all, it is important we keep a detailed record.
What shall we record first? Yes indeed! Back, not so much by popular demand, but by the whim of someone in command, it's time for another mission contest! We've got two contests lined up, so start cooking up your ideas. There are plenty of prizes to be won and we want to give out as many as possible!
Mission Creation Contest Rules This contest is open to any active member of the Team who doesn't already have authority to make missions. If you're not sure whether you're an 'active' member or not, then drop in and start participating in the RP. That makes you an active member. blaugh
To enter, just post your idea for a mission brief. You can submit as many missions as you like. If you have a lot to add at once, please do it in one post. If you think of more later, make a new post.
A good mission brief has four main elements: A title, the task at hand, Pokemon available on the mission, and the reward for completion. The title, available Pokemon, and reward are pretty straightforward. The task can be anything from a simple "Catch a ???-type" to a major search-and-rescue operation, or anything in between. It often helps to outline the kinds of challenges a person will face, including how many opposing trainers they'll have to defeat.
SAMPLE ENTRY MISSION- Little lost Skitty A little girl in Lilycove City lost her Skitty and doesn't know where to find it. Help her track it down for her. Witnesses saw the Skitty being chased by a dog. Pokemon: Houndour Growlithe Rewards: 300 PD
Judging Categories Entries will be judged in one of the following categories:
Best use of Sinnoh Pokemon Best way to restore fossils Best mission allowing two captures Funniest scenario Best overall mission You can submit your missions to a specific category, or just post it and let us decide which category it fits best.
Mission Report Contest Rules As with the Mission Creation Contest, you have to be an active Aquan.
To enter, you need to do a mission that's at least Level 2 (With one exception which you'll see soon), and it has to pass. If you've done that, you can submit your mission for further judging by posting a link to your mission in this thread. Again, you can post links to multiple missions at once, but please make a new post if you want to submit more later.
Judging Categories Yup, since you've already passed the mission once, it now has to fall under additional scrutiny based one of these categories:
Most awesome battle Best story Best use of a conventional toaster Best 'Little lost Skitty' report
Other Important Stuff Entry Deadline All entries are due by 11:59 PM PDT on May 29th, 2009
Judging Judges will be determined at a later date People who enter one contest are not eligible to judge that contest, but may be picked as a judge in the other contest.
Prizes The winner of each judging category will have their mission added to the mission list (Creation contest only) and receive a Mystery Stone, two held items, an Egg, and P$5000. The runner(s)-up of each category will receive a held item and P$2500. Rank-ups and random pieces of furniture may be awarded as necessary. Also, Thard's Shuppet was seen nosing around this area so some of the prizes may be different by the end of the contest.

I'm not eligible to win, but what the heck. Might as well submit some ideas while I do other stuff ^^
MISSON- Sleeping Beast In The Cavern
In Wayward Cave, directly under Cycling Road, a massive Garchomp has appeared. At first it wasn't a problem, but now it's coming out of the cave and attacking unlucky trainers that travel to Oreburgh/Eterna City via Cycling Road during the night (and surprisingly, there's a lot of those). Your job is to sneak into the cave during the day, while the beast is asleep, and take it down (afterall, an attack while it's fully awake could be too dangerous). But watch out! It also has 3 massive Gabites that watch it while it's asleep. Take them down first, and make sure you don't wake up the main target.
Pokemon: Gible Bronzor Gligar Ponyta Geodude Zubat
Rewards: 3000-4000 PD, 3 Ultra Balls, and (if the grader allows it) a Rainbow Pokeblock.
MISSION- Wanted! Pro Pokemon Photographer!
The Pokemon News Press (building is next to the Pokemon Center in Solaceon) is hosting a contest for those with photography skills. They want pictures of any one of the three Lake Sprites, living in their natural habitat. People have come from all over to try and and snap a picture of the 3 legendaries. Your job is to win the contest! Choose a sprite and go to its lake and take a picture of it and drive off any rival photographers that get in your way! (You'll fight 3 photographers, each with 2-3 fully evolved Pokemon).
Pokemon: Any Sinnoh Pokemon that can be found near the lake you're going to
Rewards: 1500-2000 PD, a framed version of your picture, and any held item of your choice.

There have been two harrassing you from the start, and those two should be a good start (They both have two pokemon each both 1st stage Ice or Water types)

Is this it? With such slim pickings, I won't even need a panel of judges for most of those categories. Hurry up! It ends tonight!

... The Envelope Please!...
The contest is over and the votes are in! Because of the small number of entries this time, voting was extremely easy. (I'm disappointed in y'all) But before I announce the winners, I'd like to thank Maddy for trying to inspire the rest of you to greatness. Her missions couldn't be included for judging, but I'll give her some furniture: A bookshelf and a nightstand (just one).
Now, without further ado, it's time to go. Good night! ... Just kidding. Time for the voting results. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
In the category of "Best Use of Sinnoh Pokemon," the winner is....
"Wake's Holiday" by Arekku! Since this was the only one featuring Sinnoh Pokemon, there is no runner-up. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
In the category of "Best Way to Restore Fossils," the winner is....
*Envelope is empty* D'oh! No one entered a fossil mission. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
In the category of "Best Mission Allowing Two Captures," the winner is....
*Another empty envelope* Whoops, oh well! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
In the category of "Funniest Scenario," the winner is....
"Species of Feces" by Sammy! Second prize in the category goes to Arekku's "Haiku of an Old Oak." _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Finally, it's time to announce the winner of "Best Overall Mission"
The best author in this contest Big Trouble in Little Canalave Congratulations, Arekku! The judges all agreed, your entries were the best of the bunch, so there wouldn't be any point in picking one of your others for second.
Didn't I say there would be prizes? That's right, I did!
Arekku, since you showed the most enthusiasm for the contest and gave us several good entries, you get a rank up, P$25000, any three held items of your choice, a Mystery Stone, and this funny-looking Gray Egg. It should hatch in six days or so. Your winning missions will be added to the list. (Your rankup has been taken care of. Welcome to Tier 4)
Sammy, for winning your category, you get P$10000, two held items (you choose), a Mystery Stone, and this Blue-ish Egg with a spiral pattern. Also a six-day hatching time. Your mission also goes on the list.
Rc, even though you didn't win a category, I still have an extra Mystery Stone for you, plus this plaid-patterned footrest.
