Oh, definitely! As my basic rule of thumb for this type of story, the cannon characters are always, always the main spot light.

LOVE this. <3 Sadly, I don't write like this, I don't know. It just seems like a rule of thumb that an OCxCanon romance has to have a major focus on the OC. (shrugs) But that is so awesome! I think in all other circumstances, the main characters should have the spotlights. : )

I have struggled with this a lot, too. I've managed to get a few scenes in some of my ReaderXCanon fanfictions that focus solely on the canon characters, but if the reader or OC is the main character, it's almost impossible to avoid giving her/him the spotlight for me.

Same! I don't think I've read an OCxCanon romance that does NOT have the OC as the main character, though I can't wait in my own story. Next book introduces a lovely thing called third person, so I can't wait to write in the canon's POV! : D <3

...If I ever finish the first book... >,>

You know, it's funny; I came back to this thread (trying to avoid writing, I guess) thinking that I had never posted in it. Obviously I did, but I'd like to reiterate my initial point.

Hey! You! Write! Now! You heard me! Jump on it! /hypocrisy

rofl I am REALLY bad at this. In fact, I'm doing it right now. You guys have become my excuse. xd

LOL! I've been using all SORTS of things as an excuse. XD Though I was good. I started my big editing of Chapter Eight! Aren't you proud of me? ; D

LOVE my novel doctoring books! heart

I have read a few; usually the OC was a peripheral character and the reader was the main character--on occasion, I've seen (but not actually read) an OC X Character A story where Character B was the main character (and was jealous of the couple, or something.) But these are very rare.

LOL, don't worry about it. Take your time. : D (Not like I'll have 21 done anytime soon...)

Stephen King?! No wonder why you write so much angst! LOL! ; D

I only own two really, though my former friend have LOADS of them! Astrological (Zodiac) and situational/RP books are amazing! The two I have?:

1) A psychology book titled Writer's Guide to Character Traits (second edition) by: Linda N. Edelstein. I've read this book cover-to-cover and let me tell you, it's got EVERYTHING you COULD EVER think of. It has family relations, murders, 5-year-olds, reactions to death, alcoholics, rapists, entire outlines of the 23 Adult Personality Types, female and male thoughts and communications as they develop from childhood to pubescence to young adulthood, midlife crises. EVERYTHING.

2) The one I've been referring to so much lately, titled The Complete Handbook of Novel Writing by: Meg Leder, Jack Heffron, and the editors of Writer's Digest. In all truth, I haven't quite finished reading this one yet. But it seems like every time I open it's pages, my writing improves. It talks about all sorts of stuff. Technical, like getting your novel published, and artistic, like making lavish descriptions, plot-driven and character-driven stories, the importance of POV, (most recently read by me) settings, and more and more!

I recommend these book to ANY writers, both new and experienced. I thought I was pretty good with my fiction, but it turns out I didn't know squat. ; )
