The reason there is such a radical difference between the before and after is the stylist is trained in fashion. They don't just know the fashion do's and don'ts, they apply them.

You need to know fashion do's and don'ts that apply to you. As women, we are all built differently. There are hundreds of styles available to us, but that does not mean they are all designed for us. Look through our sections, know your body shape, know your face shape, and apply your own fashion do's and don'ts.

What is fashion do's and don't all about?

We all have experience with this ourselves.You know how it goes.You try on outfit after outfit. Everything looks horrible. It's either too baggy in the butt,too tight in the thighs, or it fits the thighs and butt, but the waste it too big. AGHHHHHH! Then it happens. You try something on, and it's the perfect fit. Wow, maybe you are not a mutant after all. Wouldn't it be nice to know why that outfit looks so good on you, and why the others didn't? That's what fashion do's and don't is all about.

Why are there fashion do's and don't?. Well as we are told a million and one times we are all "unique", each one different in our own way. Most women, everyone I know anyway, have something about their bodies that they just don't like.Some of us are tall, others are short. One woman may be large on the bottom, the other large on the top. What is so strange is that we always criticize the very attribute that other women are envious of. So stop! It doesn't do you any good to wish for different features. No matter how hard you wish, or how much you complain your short legs are not going to get any longer, or your long legs aren't going to get any shorter! We are what we are.It's time to learn to love ourselves for who we are and what we can become. You can learn how to celabrate your curves and imperfections when you know the right fashion do's and don'ts for you.

The important thing with fashion do's and don't is to get to know you, and YOUR body. Find out what your body type is and embrace it. Find out what looks great on you, and find what will help you look your best with your fashion do's and don'ts!

Typically pears have:

* A long or slender neck
* Sloping or narrow shoulders
* Narrow back
* Small to medium bust
* Defined waist
* Curvy hips and backside
* Full thighs and calves

Dressing For Your Pear Shape

Pear Shape - this is said to be the most common with women.

Typically women with pear shaped bodies have a slender face and neck. Shoulders are shapely but also narrow and slope downward. Small to medium bust and a well defined waist. While the lower area- buttocks, hips, thighs and calves are comparatively larger holding most of the weight.

Dressing the Pear-Shaped Figure:

We have to think about balance. We want to give the appearance of wider shoulders and bigger bust this will help take the attention off the widest part of the body by bringing the eyes up to your face, neck, bust and waist. So in other words what you need to do is to over play your upper body and give your lower body a slimmer sleeker look. Do this by using color on top, wide neck lines, accentuate your waste and wear dark colors on the bottom.

Top it off!

Because your bottom half is slightly larger than your top, you can wear slightly looser fitting cloths on top with out any problem. However, fitted tops look great on you as well. Blouses with a lot of detailing, tops in all sorts of prints with lighter and brighter colors, or textured fabrics are what you want to look for in your tops. This will help balance your lower half.

Puffy sleeves and tops that hug the shoulders or ones with wide-set straps will help to visually widen the chest and shoulders.

Look for necklines that are scooped, draped, v'd, rounded or squared. Any neckline that has a lower and wider neckline will look great. These will emphasize your bust and draw attention to your face. Also look for an under-wire or molded bras to help with balance. A halter top that ties at the neck will give the shoulders the appearance of width they need, and this will help balance out your hips and thighs.

Bring It On!

A-line and flared skirts look best on pears. You want to look for jeans or pants that are flared or have a wide-leg, this will help hide your thicker thighs. Straight legged jeans are also a good for a sleek slimmer look. Go for low-rise dark jeans (the darker the better) and dark pants. This gives the illusion of a slimmer hips and bottom.

When choosing a dress, choose ones with an empire waist or a wrap dress which will flow over the hip area. Sleek shoes with a thinner heel will work better visually rather than clunky footwear.

Stay Away!

Stay away from body-hugging tight skirts. This will only show every bump and curve. You also want to keep away from full skirts or ones with large pockets. Pockets will only add dimension to your already fuller hips. Avoid dresses that have a bias cut that hugs the bottom. Bold patterns, large checks, and light colors are not recommended for below the waist.

Stay away from tight jeans with too much detail on the hips or bottom, such as flaps or embroidery on back pockets. This will only draw the eyes right to your problem area. Stay away from pants with bulky side pockets.

Stay away from tapered jeans or pants, this is something you never ever want to wear. The narrow and tapered legs will only make your hips appear huge.

Stay away from high-waisted pants as these tend to make your bottom look larger.

Stay away from jackets that finish at the widest part of your hips.
Stay away form flashy belts that draw attention to your hips and thighs.

Typically apples have:

* A fuller face and neck
* Broader shoulders
* Fuller Breast
* A fuller, undefined waist
* Narrow hips
* A flat rear end
* Shapley legs

Here are some common characteristics of the lovely shaped apple. You tend to have a softer fuller middle, with full shapely breast. Your have broader shoulders and upper arms with an undefined waist. You will have thinner hips and thighs and a flatter rear end than most. When Apples gain weight, they have a tendency to gain in the midsection.

Dressing the Apple-Shaped Figure:

Balance is always the goal. Our main goal will be to lengthen or elongate your torso. We want to give the appearance of slimmer shoulders and waist. We need to draw attention away from the tummy, and draw attention to your best attributes which include your much envied breast and legs. Focusing on your assets and emphasizing your positives will make you look much slimmer, and make for a more confident you.

Top it off!

Wrap around tops look best on you, fitted tops also look great, but nothing to tight. Look for tops with v necklines; this will pull the eye away from your shoulders, while accentuating one of your best features! Because apples tend to have larger breast always make sure your bra provides the support you need! The right bra can make a big difference when it comes to enhancing your figure. An empire, or raised waist also brings the eye up and away from problem areas. A cami, or tank top, with a matching jacket is always a good way to go! Look for blouses that have a cinched waist, or belted jackets, this will give the illusion of a smaller waist, and slim down your tummy. Jackets should fall right below the waist to mid-thigh, never at the widest part of your hips. Wear jackets and blazers open for the best vertical lines. Darker solid colors work best for your tops. If you want a top with some pattern, choose tops that are darker around the midsection, and with the pattern at the top to bring the eye up toward your chest and face, while diverting attention away from your middle.

Bring It On!

Play up those nice legs with shorter skirts, by shorter I mean 1 to 5 inches above the knee. A-line skirts also work well, as it will give you the look of a waist and more of an hourglass figure. You want to look for jeans that have a flat front, and a rise that is lower than your natural waist. Look for jeans that have back pockets with flaps, this will help give some curve to a flatter rear. Lighter washes and/or jeans with fading will add shape to your thighs. Boot-cut and flared legs will give you a longer leaner look. Textures like chiffon and silk are great options for your skirts, and you can go crazy with bolder colors and patterns.

This shape looks best when wearing simple designs, rather than excessive flounces and gathers. When looking for items to add to your wardrobe, always think simple style.

Stay Away!

Stay away from tops that are too baggy and have puffy or full sleeves, this will only make your shoulders and arms look bigger.

Stay away from bold patterns, large checks, and light colors above your waist. Wearing any top with too many patterns all over will make you look big and wide on top and that is one thing you never want to do.

Stay away from bottoms that are too tight, as this will also make you look bigger on top. Never wear pants that have a pleated front, this will only add inches to your tummy!

Stay away from jeans with darker washes. These will only make your hips appear smaller.

Stay away from tapered legs. You will only make your top half appear bigger than it is.

Stay away from shoulder pads! You do not need help with this area.

Typically you have

* Symmetrical shoulders and hips
* Full, shapely bust
* Distinctly defined waist
* Medium to broad hips in proportion with shoulders
* Shapely Legs

Here are some common characteristics of the curvaceous hourglass figure. They have the most proportioned body shape with their shapely shoulders and curvy hips being equal in size. Your bust will be medium to full, and is a much envied asset. Your waist is very defined, while your thighs and bottom are full and curvy as well.

Dressing the Hour Glass-Shaped Figure:

If you are one of the ladies who is blessed with an hourglass figure, then you are very fortunate. Since balance is always our goal, you do not need any help in this area, as the hourglass figure is considered by most to be the ideal female form. Your over all figure is the easiest to dress because most things look great on you. Our goal is to draw attention to your waist and accentuate those feminine curves without adding size to your hips and shoulders.

Top it off!

You want to wear tops that enhance your bust and waist. Because this shape tends to have larger breast always make sure you have a bra that offers good support! The right bra can make a big difference when it comes to enhancing your figure. Look for tops that will lengthen your body. Tops with V necks or scooped necklines will do the trick. Wrap around tops are also great for emphasizing your waist. Tops that sit at your waist is another great look for you. Halter tops are great on you, as they show off your shapely shoulders. Darker fabrics will help you appear slimmer, however most colors look great on you. Select small dots or patterns for a softer slimmer look. When looking for jackets, keep them simple. They can be either short or long, just make sure that they are well cut, fitted and nipped at the waist to show it off.

Bring It On!

Play up your shapely silhouette by wearing bottoms that accentuate your positive features. Do this by wearing jeans that are made of stretch denim, these will hug you curves and give a smooth fit at the waistline and hips. Look for jeans that are cut with larger hips, and a smaller waist. You also want to look for jeans that are slightly flared, or have a wide leg, this will balance out your hips. Mid-rise jeans are the way to go, especially if you are carrying some extra weight in the tummy, but low-rise jeans work great for you as well!

When looking for skirts, ¾ length or full length with a long slit or crease in the front will make you look taller, thinner and sexier.

Stay Away!

Like our friend the rectangle the list of things to stay way from is short. However there are a few things that you should try to stay away from.

First on the list of things to stay away from is anything that hides your beautiful curves and turn you into a shapeless line. Stay away from pants and tops that are too baggy, these will only give you a frumpy look. You will also want to stay away form straight lines in skirts, jackets, and jeans.

Stay away from tops that have large prints, checks and stripes, and blouses with ruffles and lots of details around the bust area, this will only hide your great curves and make you look larger and out of proportion.

Stay away from skirts that are to short, these will only tend to make you look round and shorten your total look.

Typically rectangles have:

* A full neck
* Broad back
* Average bust
* Undefined waist
* A balanced figure
* Great legs and arms

Currently this shape is the "ideal" shape for today's top models.

Here are some common characteristics of the alluring rectangle. Your figure is lean and athletic. You may have a fuller neck and your back is broad. Your shoulders and hips are balanced between a straighter torso with a waist that has little or no curves. There is little difference between measurements of the chest, waist and hips. Your bust is usually small to medium in size and your hips are square and your derriere is flat. You are blessed with slim long arms and slender lengthy legs. When you gain weight it tends to go to your tummy forming a little pot belly, and your thighs and love handles.

Dressing the Rectangle-Shaped Figure:

Since balance is always our goal, and like the hourglass figure, you do not need any help in this area. So our goal for you is simple. We need to create the appearance of a curvier waist and bottom to enhance your femininity, and draw our focus to your great legs and thighs.

Top it off!

You want to wear tops that give the illusion of curves. Do this by wearing surplice or wrap tops with a scooped or V- neckline these will emphasize your bust and draw attention to your face. When searching for a bra, look for bras that have extra padding and underwire for fuller more feminine curves. Pretty tops with spaghetti straps will draw attention to your breast making them appear larger. Look for jackets that have a cinched waist, or bias cut these will look great on you. Jackets that flare out from your waist will create instant hips. Tops that are fitted and go in at the waist will help give the appearance of a curvier figure.

Bring It On!

There is not a whole lot you can not wear. However there are things that do look better on you. For instance look for jeans that hug and lift your bottom. Smaller back pockets that are spread far apart will make your bottom look fuller. If they have flaps on them, this is even better, as this adds some bulk to your bottom. Jeans with lighter fades on the thighs will help give them shape. You will look great in jeans that have a low-rise and that are a straight fit from the hip to the knee with a slight flare at the end. A contoured waistband helps create curves. Skirts that have a dropped waist look great on you. Other skirts that look great include pencil, a-lined, and flared skirts that gather at the waist. You have great legs, so be sure to show them off!

Stay Away!

The list of things you need to avoid is short. On the top of the list are vertical patterns and lines, these will tend to make you appear thin and lanky. Next on the list is clinging and tightly fitted blouses.

Stay away from short cropped jackets that end at your waist. You also want to stay away from loose garments that do not show off your curves.

Stay away from skirts, jeans, and pants that are high waisted. You also need to stay away from jeans with a straight cut. This will only emphasize your straight figure.
