Though Adriel knew that Niahm loved adventures as much as he did, he often had to wonder if perhaps he was pushing it on her. She had seemed a little hesitant before, and he figured perhaps she would back out. Sighing, he felt like a jerk. Why did he not ask her before how she felt about it?

Now, however, it was perhaps too late to back out this time. His mother, Sylvera, had already helped arrange a meeting with another kyunru named Hokkyokuesi, who he hoped had a slightly smaller nickname. Not that he did not like the name, it was just very hard to pronounce and remember. Well atleast it was to him. He was sure that the always intelligent Niahm would do better.

Who is this Hokkyokuesi? he wondered to himself as he climbed up the latter in the incense shop to get to the top of the tree. Mom says she knows a lot about stars.

Making his way over to the nearby telescope, he shut one eye and peered in with the other. His tailed waggled, and he liked what he saw.

The night sky was clear, and the stars seemed to give off a comforting glow. Hokkyokusei had decided to rest among the leaves in the trees that evening, so that she would be able to admirer them more closely. Thus far it had been quiet, but rustling by her signaled company. She slipped down to see a very young kyunru admiring the sky as she had been. "Why hello young one, what brings you out so late?"

To accept that there was more she wanted to learn than what was available in all their millions of books. She could not tell them... despite how close they were and how much she loved and trusted them... Niahm could not tell them about the pull of the adventure upon her heart. Could not tell or even attempt to explain this strange longing.

It was not untruth that she was going out to learn. The little fae-peacock-dragon loved to learn from books and everything else. Going out... was learning. Everywhere she went, little Niahm learned more.

Shining blue eyes flicked up to the shimmering night sky and she paused, mouth curling in wonder and awe. Though she could see the stars above the clearing at home, and sometimes clearer from Bass'ken Lake when there were no lights from fishers obscuring the darkness, there was something... special every time she looked at the night sky. Her 'sister', the cait Amaryllis, would sometimes speak of the sky in rare times not speaking of her gardens and plants. Soft, gentle mentions of a friend who flew and disappeared into the night sky but would always return. It was lovely... so lovely to see those blue within blue eyes of her sister and friend sparkle with light for anything other than her plants.

Her paws stopped, outside Elderspark, and Niahm blinked in a moment of surprise. She had not been headed here... but Father often told of the draw of this shop on their kind. Its draw had led him here and to Mother time and again until Fafnir realized he loved her. The links to Kyendi once had such a draw, but now they were mere ruins. Glancing up at the treetops and the starry sky above Niahm's shining blue eyes sparkled with soft tears. Trelweny and Mother had taken her to the ruins of Kyendi... and to the remains beyond the path in the clocktower where Mother's egg had been found. Tien had gone with them of course, searching for its friend 'Yarf' who Trelweny called Yaraif. The ruins of the great tree and the stories of what must have happened... how Trelweny did not know what became of the other Ieldi besides those few who had been reborn like Miss Imriel... it all made Niahm feel quite sad and small and lonely.

Softly she sat down, looking up at the heavens. To figure out her thoughts and direction before moving again. It was safe here... in front of the shop. Safe... well until some danger rose up against their kind again or all the guardians fled again.

and you...? will you stay or go when that happens, Niahm? She had no answer yet to her quiet thought.

Turning, Adriel's eyes fell upon a beautiful adult kyunru. Her body was purple and blue, and there were stars scattered all over her body. In fact, as he tried to look closer, he thought that he could see them sparkling. Her cheeks had clouds upon them, and so he realized that this must be the Hokkyokuei that his mother had spoken of.

"Oh hello," he said, nodding his head politely. "I actually came looking for you."
