Well, if it's the nerves, I really don't know what to advise you with. I mean, everyone copes with it in a different way. Sometimes listening to music will relax you or if there's some part in particular that you're nervous about, maybe look it over so you feel more confident on it. Everyone usually gets nervous before a competition but I know that for me, as soon we start performing, all the nerves go away and I get lost in my focus on the performance.
If what you need help with is the projection instead, then I would say that the problem is probably more your blending than your projection. Perhaps you just notice it at a quieter dynamic? Or maybe your tone doesn't match everyone else's? Generally when you feel like you're sticking out, it means you aren't blending. So try to match tones with the others and you will feel more like you're projecting the sound of the section. If the problem is more that you are just too loud (especially at lower dynamics) then try to sing quieter. Be sure to support yourself with possibly even more air than when you're singing loud and try to match the dynamic of the choir itself. I think it all boils down to trying to blend more than anything else.
Hope that makes sense and it's helpful! And good luck at your contest!
