What I mean is, what purpose do video games serve in your life? Are they a hobby? A distraction? A past-time? Something else? For me, I've found that I play video games during some of the roughest times in my life - kind of to escape from reality for a while. When things are tough is usually when my obsession is the worst. Of course, I play them a lot normally, as well. Whenever I need a burst of adventure that just isn't available in real life. What about you?

Well, primarily it is a hobby and a source of immersive entertainmaint, but also I relish the sense of satisfaction when, say, completing a hard game on it's hardest difficulty setting (just did Far Cry 2 on Infamous this very morning, felt great) and I agree, it can make an excellent escape. I've invested stupid amounts of time in RPG's, over 200 hours on my particular favourites (FF12, Fire Emblem, Persona 3 for example). I find it also helps improve my reflexes and sense of awareness, and even helps me in other areas. For example, I even studied Mitsurugi in Soul Calibur 2 to improve my sword techniques...

It's all the things you listed to me, a past time, an addiction, entertainment, a distraction to the strains of life, but as I've gotten older, I've been looking at it as an art and a future for my life. The game industry is on my list of goals to head for in the future. In a big way it's a sense of expresion, simulaation games give me abilities to turn the world upside down.

Entertainment mainly.. If I get bored and nothing is on tv, I play the ps3. Others would be stress relief, playing with friends online (normally just using it as a free phone xD) All depends how I feel at the time really

Mainly hobby, I think. I also play f.e. FF12 just because of the storyline. Well, I like the gameplay too, but I like to see how the story goes. =]

Video games for me are entertainment, a hobby. Sometimes characters can become role models of sorts, and games also help take our agression and annoyance; very therapeutic wink
