.First Kiss.

Disinclined
Night had long since fallen on the city, but the raven felt no inclination to retire. Unlike some of his friends who had companions to look after, and babies, and other such responsibilities, Xaxis had nothing chaining him down.

Lucien was off grocery shopping - Xaxis had been invited along, as he used to tag along with the the other boy, but tonight the raven felt like being free. How long had he been tethered to Lucien and his rules? How long had he kept indoors because of his health, because of his age, because of the adults?

His other friends seemed to be allowed to go places without fear. Lithle didn't tie Savius down, did she? Iamel seemed to romp WITH babies whenever he pleased, so now it was Xaxis' turn.

Lucien couldn't gripe or complain, Lucien couldn't hold him down any longer. Cold or not, Xaxis was going to do what he wanted when he wanted, and that was that.

Fall was in the air, a breeze chilling the raven and causing his wings to wrap around his lithe frame. It would soon be winter, which meant more and more clothing - bah.

Maybe there would be a way to keep warm AND still wear his scarves and bells. Tinkling with every movement, with every gust of wind, the raven enjoyed his current solitude.

Lights blinked on and off through various windows. Many shops were closed, but there were some that fed off the night stalkers. Flashing blues and reds and neons, signs welcoming those outside to enter, offering food and drink and music to the masses.

Xaxis felt no urge to enter any of those places, but he did admire what activity and life he saw as he passed the windows. The world revolved around the living. . .

Xaxis liked to watch it, as a predator studies his prey. They would all fall, sooner or later, and the raven would laugh at such a sight.

The Nozomi
Iamel was not as jangly as his Raven friend, being just a meer woodpecker himself, but he WAS colorful. His Shiniee had been packing more things for them to move and his brother was having a sleepover - the other kiddlets had scattered to various friends houses to avoid the oncoming boredom that a near-empty house provided.

So there he was, on the town. People had been staring at him, in the club he was at, like that waitress had stared at Savius. Hungry, almost feral. Licking their lips and nearly fluffed up like a starving housecat. One had almost touched him - that's when the Woodpecker had left. He didn't knw why they were looking at him like that, despite his questions to Shanuh, and he didn't want to know why.

His boots clomped down cheerfully on the sidewalk as he meandered about, glowsticks dangling around his neck and some stuck in the high ponytail. While the boys hair had gotten a good deal longer, few saw it down anymore. It was something special, to him. Something his.

Everyone knew you didn't take what was His.

Iamel coughed a little into the wind, a sudden, cold gust catching him by surprise. One hand rose to rub his eyes and when the hand lowered, there was someone scarf-covered and jangly walking down the street as well. His eyebrows arched. That looked like... Well! They were ALL just growing now, weren't they!

"XAXIS!" The Woodpecker bellowed, chasing after his friend and almost tackling the poor bird. "OI!"

Disinclined
Xaxis did a double take at the sound of his voice, eyes searching for the source. The voice didn't sound that familiar, and yet . . .

It had to be . . .

Ah-HA!

The jingling boy couldn't miss the exotic hair colour, he couldn't miss the glowing sticks of colour that further demanded such attention. "Iamel~!" The raven laughed, his black wings spreading wide in pleasure.

"Look at you! Wow - when did this happen!?" So he hadn't been alone in his growth. The raven didn't often get a chance to see his friends, not on a regular basis, so the teens appearance was a complete surprise.

If Iamel had grown . . . had anyone else?

It would be fantastic to find out and see! Maybe Iamel knew more? Iamel was the social butterfly of their group. . . at least more social than Savius seemed, AND Diacyn.

All but glomping his friend, the raven pulled back only to further study his friend. The tied back hair, the wild outfit, the height! Oh - they were just about the same size now! And his wings had grown, too! How fantastic!

The raven's solemn evening had suddenly taken a much happer turn.

The Nozomi
Iamel grinned widely at his frined, thumbs hooked in his jeans happily. "Look at YOU!" He retorted, moving slowly around his friend, fingers moving to preen at and straight a feather or two in Xaxis' set. "I grew about a week and a half ago - painful ******** hell, I tell you, in a MALL - what about you?"

The glomp was met with another laugh, hugging tight at the darker being, nose wrinkling an dhead dipping to press them nose-to-nose.

"You," He informed the Raven lazily, "Are VERY janglie! When'd you get the bells? This is SO ******** cool - me an' Savius an' you - d'ya think Diacyn has grwn?" The woodpecker was highly cheered at seeing his friend like this, hands petting down his sides. Like with Shanuh, he had no clue that what he was doing looked sexual.

At least, Xaxis wasn't looking at him like THAT. And Iamel wasn't looking at him either.

"You're so PRETTY."

Disinclined
Xaxis couldn't help but glow under such attention. He always had liked to be around his friends, and always enjoyed spending time in their company, but now . . . now he actually showed his pleasure. Practically beaming under such praise, the raven gave a soft giggle, ducking his head coyly at the compliments.

Yes, Xaxis had spent many a few moments admiring his reflection - but it was nice to know he wasn't biased. It was nice to know that his friends didn't overlook his prettiness.

"Well, this all happened just the other night. I was in bed, but I tell you - I got sick!" The raven's nose crinkeled and his lips turned into a grimace. Realizing that Iamel might think him silly (since the raven was NOTORIOUS for being sick), he hastily continued, "But it was the worst I've ever been! I thought I was really dying. It hurt soooo much, and, and . . . and it was the sickest I ever got." He looked up at his friend, his rich violet eyes pleading, almost begging Iamel to agree.

"BUT," he added, tone suddenly changing to a much happier note, "I got taller, AND found jinglies, AND this," he pointed to the soft, green jewel that was stuck permanantly to his forhead.

Full of chit-chatter, the taller raven was still very pleased by running into his friend. He had his arms loosely about Iamel's waist, and couldn't help but admire him.

So Savius had grown too? Oh, how exciting! He'd have to pay his dear friend a visit soon. "Well you're rather handsome too," Xaxis chirrpped, eyes gleaming in admiration. "And look that fuzz!" Long fingers reached up to tug playfully at the goatee.

"If we're all grown, then Diacyn has to have grown!"

The two were getting some attention. It wasn't everyday two attractive guardians of death were locked together in a friendly embrace.

The Nozomi
Of course he wasn't biased. Anyone who said so would be met with the uncomfortable part of Iamels boot up their a**. That was the way the world worked - you didn't insult his friends, you didn't die. It was an easy method.

Iamel listened to the story, nodding along when appropriate, and he dragged Xaxis into a sympathetic hug. "Its bad you had to get so so sick in order to get tall and janglies - but you're okay! So you're less sick now...?" He tapered off, red eyes on the Raven, one hand moving up to pet at the bright pink bangs.

They were PINK.

It was a good day, in his bok.

"Handsome?" That caught him a little off gaurd, eyebrows arching. "Thank you~ I never thought I'd be called - eep! - handsome. And I like the fuzz." He laughed, hand moving to wrap around the others wrists.

"Ah ha, Xaxis... Caught you." Iamels voice was low and playful, tugging gently at his wrist.

Disinclined
Xaxis gave a small, emphatic nod in agreement. "I'm all right now, though my wings still seem to molt." A little sigh, a moments disappointment that he hadn't yet grown out of his constant decay, "But I've resigned myself to putting up with it for the rest of my days." Another nod, and a little grin.

He really had grown used to being sick all the time, and leaving a trail of feathers in his wake - but it did get old very quickly.

"But you are handsome!" Xaxis quickly responded, eyes growing wide in his friends defense. Did Iamel not look in mirrors? Did he not see how adorable he was? Given, Iamel had always been cute and wild and hyper and crazy and sparkly and bright, but now . . now cute wasn't the word. The word had to be handsome - it just worked.

He wasn't pretty. . . persay. Attractive? Sure! Why not? But pretty just couldn't fit - so handsome would have to do the trick. And it did.

"Don't let anyone tell you otherwise," the raven nodded curtly, before his lips curved into a wide, just as playful smile.

He said so, therefor he was right.

Finding his wrist captured, Xaxis changed his playful tugging into more of a playful, innocent pet. Violet eyes going wide with innocence, the raven tilted his head to the side. "Caught me red handed, I fear - but I just couldn't resist!"

The Nozomi
"Psh. You'll grow out of it, Xaxis, honest." He smiled a little, one hand moving back to pet at Xaxis' feathers. He liked wings, although he didn't get to touch many thers then his own often enough.

Xaxis' quick defense to his looks made Iamel flush a little, a laugh still on his lips. What could he say in defense to that? SUre, Savius had said he looked 'good' but that was on a different scale then 'handsome'. So the woodpecker just grinned, nose wrinkling despite the others playful holding on his fuzz.

"Well, since you say so and are SO very insistant on it..." Iamel tapered off, smiling a little. His finger squeezed gently at Xaxis' wrist, tugging gently at the others wrist.

"Hmmph. Well. I won't crush your wrist THIS time, since you're too pretty so..." Another soft tug and then his friend was released, that grin still on his lips.

...people were watching. His wings gave an irritable twitch, glancing to the side. "People are looking."

Disinclined
The raven did so hope that he'd grow out of his . . .problem. It wasn't any fun to be in a constant state of unwell, but as of yet, the raven had no idea how to change his predicament. Since there was no cure, he could only take the woodpeckers reassurance with a smile.

"I'm right, and I know I'm right," the raven laughed softly, violet eyes bright and full of good humor, taking any conceit out of his words. Iamel didn't have to think that he looked good himself - but just so long as he knew that OTHER people thought he were handsome, including kin.

That was all that mattered.

Giving his chin one last little pet, apologizing for his behaviour, the raven opened his mouth to speak. . . only to stop.

They were being watched? Xaxis, so used to doing the people watching, cast a glance around at the gathered crowd. Some people really were staring! What about? Why?

The raven, so used to sliding in and out of the background, let his wings ruffle in slight agitation. "They don't have to be so obvious about it," he mumurmed, dropping his head and his gaze, unsure how to handle the looks.

Iamel was handsome, and Xaxis knew he was pretty - but did that mean they had to be stared at?
They weren't doing anything wrong. They were just chatting, catching up with each other. So why the stares?

Suddenly very self-concious, the raven lost his confidance, and fell into his childhood habits. Wings snapping shut, the raven decided Iamel would make a very good body sheild indeed.

What was the phrase. . . what was the saying? "They should take a picture, it sure as hell would last longer."

It wasn't that Xaxis didn't like attention - he just didn't know why they were being watched and studied. Many didn't notice, which was wonderful, but there was a small handful that did. Bah.

But Xaxis couldn't entirely place the why. And that was what made him uncomfortable and very, very wary.

The Nozomi
Iamels eyes narrowed when Xaxis reverted into himself, taking a faint step back to look at all the people. Some were just staring... a few were whispering. Why?

They weren't doing anything bad. They weren't bad. Nothing here was BAD. Why were people staring at them?

"Don't look sad," The woodpeckers order/request was almost gruff, hand moving to pet at the others face gently. He remembered something from when he was a kid - something almost a year ago, with his Shiniee, when people had been staring then as well.

"If they want something to stare at, we'll GIVE them something to stare at. ******** them."

One hand stayed under Xaxis' scarf when the other moved to peel the fabric off. Iamel bent over, just a little, and pressed a rather firm kiss to his friends mouth. The hand had been on Xaxis' cheek rose up to give the watching people the bird.

Disinclined

Sure, Xaxis didn't like people staring - at least not blatantly - but he hardly had time to object when Iamel told them they would PURPOSELY give them something to stare at!

Now why on earth would they want to do that~! Wasn't the whole point to not make them stare? Wasn't the whole point to -

And, then his scarf was brushed aside and he found himself being kissed. KISSED.

. . . what?

The raven, hardly accustomed to being this open and friendly, was starteled by his friends kiss. It wasn't a deep kiss, and it wasn't as if it really meant anything - friends could kiss, couldn't they? Kisses were good things, weren't they?

But it was still a kiss, nonetheless. Kisses didn't happen to Xaxis, at least not in his household. The most affectionate Lucien and him ever got was when Xaxis was sick - and then he'd be given occassional pets on the head, his back or tummy rubbed, and that was about it.

Even around his friends, Xaxis hadn't been an exceptionally clingy friend. The most he asked of his friends ( and mainly Savius at that) was to help preen his wings.

Now, with height, he could add kissing to the list of "new things he was able to do".

Lucien wouldn't like this ...

The people might not like it. . . (why, the raven couldn't be sure) . . .

But if that was the case, all right.

So he kissed back, though his cheeks were now blushed crimson.

There. There there.

After a moment, he broke it off, pulling away ever so slightly, and giving a little giggle. He stared up at Iamel, wings fluttering a smidge nervously. "Have they stopped staring?" He whispered, raising an eyebrow but not daring to look.

The Nozomi
He leaned down, closer as the other kissed back, moving back with a faint smile. Xaxis was blushing - that made him cute. He was pretty anyway, but cute was also better.

The others question made him smile even more, laughing and giving Xaxis' cheek another pet. Iamels finger had lowered as hsi head raised, glancing around curiously. "Mm. THere are one or two but the main crowd wandered away. Maybe it was the kiss or the finger but they're gone. Why? Would you kiss me again if they were still here?"

Iamel grinned widely at that, a hand moving to drape over Xaxis' shoulder. "C'mon. Let's go somewhere fun. Somewhere without staring. Kay?"

Disinclined
Xaxis was relieved. No more staring, no more kissing. Not that. . . not that he'd minded being kissed, it had just happened so suddenly! Part of the raven was upset he hadn't had time to truly enjoy it.

Was that was the big to do was all about? Was that why all the television shows he'd seen ahd lots of kissing in it?

Maybe.

It had felt nice - the raven had especially enjoyed the feeling of a lip ring against his lips - but that was neither here nor there.

The logic in his head told him that friends could kiss. Because they had height and were tall and . . . it stopped people from staring? Maybe he'd have to talk to Savius about that - and Shanuh. Then again, maybe it was just a tall-thing. . .

Slipping his arm easily around Iamel's thin waist, the raven gave a soft laugh. The spark of life and good humor that had ben covered by paranoia was quick to light again. Everything was okay, once again. . .

"Well I wouldn't object," he agreed, cheeks still painted pink. Now that everything was over. . .

Xaxis felt. . kind of . . exhilerated. He'd just been kissed~! KISSED! Him! Oh, and how he wanted to gossip about it - but how he couldn't, since his gossip partner had been Iamel!

Oh well - he'd just have to tell Savius when they next met. And Lucien. And Shanuh. And Nikel and JoJo and the lot of 'em. The world would know that his lips had been claimed. . . for a second at least.

Pulling Iamel with him, Xaxis continued down the street, pleased to be in such good company. Iamel was good for companionship and conversation and . . . and he was warm. That was always a good thing to be, at least around the sick one.

"So where's a good spot? No staring, none of . . them." The jingling birds nose crinkled with slight distaste. Already there was a definite line between "them" and "Them" (also known as his Kin).

"Feel free to lead the way~!"

The Nozomi
"You wouldn't object to more kisses?" He glanced over to his friend in mild surprise. Sure, the first one had been a surprise to the Raven - and to the woodpecker, as well - but he hadn't thought...

Iamel laughed, letting himself be pulled and moving with his friend. One arm draped around Xaxis' shoulders. He was warm indeed, and he enjyed being around his friend.

Something about the kiss had made the boy feel.... weird inside. Not like he had a stomach ache or anything but.. weird anyway. Was that what happened when you kissed someone you liked? You got those happy little fluttery feelings in your stomach?

"Well." He hesitated, nose wrinkling. "There are hotels by the hour but Shiniee said never to go into one of those... the park? It should be pretty much deserted out there.." He nodded, giving Xaxis' hair a soft pat.

"Hey..." The woodpecker paused, "Do you think I could kiss you again?"

Disinclined
Xaxis listened to his friend offer suggestions. "Hotels?" The raven had never heard of such a thing. Well, he'd heard of hotels, but not the sort that rented by the hour! Quirking a delicate brow, the thin raven looked up at Iamel with surprise, a moments confusion crossing his features. "Whatever would you do at a hotel for just an hour," a soft giggle proved his naivete.

Yeah, the raven, for all his morbid fascination and sick fondness for roadkill, really hadn't a clue about . . . . certain subjects.

"The park sounds nice," Xaxis agreed, giving a nod (and a jingle). Keeping his arm loosely about his friend, the raven was a bit surprised by Iamel's next question.

Another kiss? Really!?!? NO. WAY.

The feeling, the funny twisting in his stomach, seemed to worsen. For some strange reason, the raven, so typically distant, so typically reserved, felt. . . funny.

Giggly funny, nervous funny, all rolled into one!

Maybe it was just the excitement of being kissed. . . Strange how he'd never really had any desire TO kiss, or had found any interest IN kissing his friends. Except . . . Except now that he was tall, there was something that said he should, that it might be fun, might be nice, might be . . . different.

Tallness was a strange thing, it really, truly was.

Turning his violet eyes on the woodpecker, Xaxis gave a coy smile. "I think I might like that, actually."

Friend kisses~! Xaxis wondered briefly if Savius and Iamel had kissed like this when they'd met. And did this mean Xaxis could kiss Savius like this too? And Iamel and Diacyn (if Diacyn were tall. . . ).

So much to think about - but he could mull over it all later.

Much later. For now, he was with his friend, and they were going to the park, and there might be . . .more kissing.

That didn't involve scaring people away.

The Nozomi
"I dunno. Maybe people take really short naps?" The woodpecker offered, laughing and giving his friends shoulder a faint shrug. "I just asked why places would offer by the hour and Shiniee gave me this Look - y'knw, something between a glare and frustration - and just said I should never go there. I think one day I will. Just to see. Not yet but..."

He tapered off with a short laugh as they moved towards the park. Iamel had always liked the park - it was sunny and nice when he was there. And since it was dark out, and few wanted to go 'outside' in the dark, he could only assume they'd be uninterrupted, un stared at there.

The fluttery ness only worsened and the woodpecker made sure to later ask his Shiniee what they were. Did he get them from kissing anyone? Because he kissed Shiniees cheek this morning and it didn't do anything....

Xaxis' reply made the red eyes slide over to his friend, lips folding into a grin, the lip ring glinting in the night. "Okay," He agreed. This could be an experiment with fluttery thingies. The part loomed ahead of them, a swing set, playground, open grass and trees abound.

"Playground has more places to hide from eyes. Grass and trees have less... plastic." Iamels eyebrows quirked faintly. "Where d'ya wanna go?"

Disinclined
Xaxis was still clueless when it came to hour-hotels, but he didn't press the matter any further. It was obvious Iamel was as much in the dark about them as he was, so it was better to just let the topic rest.

Paying to take an hour nap seemed ridiculous, but then, humans seemed notorious for ridiculous ideas.

As the pair reached the park, Xaxis didn't hesitate to lead Iamel over to the playground. He'd played on the plastic time and time again - the slides, the swings, the see-saw. "It all looks so small now," Xaxis noted, mildly surprised. Sure, they were taller, but . . . but had they all really been so small? The jungle gym in the center, once a looming tower of doom, was now . . . a bunch of logs stacked on top of one another, with a measly net to climb up the side.

The fear was lost as Xaxis realized he could probably scale the gym with one good leap.

How discouraging.

"Let's go chill on the metal," he chirrped, keeping Iamel close for attention and warmth, guiding the orange-haired one over to the merry-go-round. It was small, metal, but large enough to fit adults and children alike.

Taking a careful seat on the edge of the contraption, Xaxis grinned in a moments of childish delight. There was something to be said about hanging out at an abandoned park in the middle of the night. "This is kind of nice."

The only thing that would make it better was if it were a bit warmer. Fall was fast approaching, and that did NOT please the raven.

The Nozomi
He let himself be led towards the playground. Part of Iamel was relieved - the grass was shiny - wet. He didn't want his pants getting ruined by some mud and water. It'd make him sad. And at least the playground had some form of hiding from people...

Iamel didn't like people. Not at all.

The woodpecker flopped next to his friend, rubbing gently up and down his arm, eyebrows arched. "You have pricklies on your arm, Xaxis," Iamel noted, fingers petting at the raised bits of Raven flesh.

His head tilted on the others slightly, lips pressed just vaguely against Xaxis' temple. Iamel had seen his shiniee do that before, when someone was sick or upset. It helped.

...well, and Xaxis SAID he could kiss, so he was allowed to.

Disinclined

Xaxis gave a gentle smile, lips curling in a slightly self-conscious smile. "Well, it is a bit chilly out," he explained, reaching a hand over to touch Iamel's cheek. His hands were like ice, but that wasn't surprising when it came to the raven.

If he wasn't suffering a fever, he was suffering the chills. And if he wasn't so sick he was curled up in bed, then he was at least fighting off some sort of incurable cold. Thankfully, his illnesses hadn't leaked over to his Kin, so Xaxis could only assume he was only contagious to himself.

"Aren't you cold?" He asked, quirking a delicate brow at his friend. He turned his head, trying to get a better look at his friend, but not pulling away from their closeness.

There was something . . . nice . . .about being so close to another person. It made the raven want to . . . cuddle.

A little laugh, and a wink, "I'm using you horribly, Iamel. You're a good man when it comes to providing body-heat..." A pause, ". . . and kisses."

Well, it was true wasn't it?

Xaxis hadn't been kissed by anybody, so even if Iamel hadn't been good at kisses, he'd still win by default. As it was, Xaxis had no experience, therefor the one kiss he'd been given was the absolute best.

That was just the way of things, at least when it came to the raven.

The Nozomi
"Not really. Shiniee keeps the house cold so no one can b***h or run around naked." He grinned, leaning into the hand with a soft little murmur. He liked to be touched, especially gently. It made him happy. Made him feel wanted, even though for different reasons then many.

"I'm used to the cold," Iamel explained against his hand, red eyes sliding up to catch Xaxis', lips quirking into another grin. "You're allowed to use me. Promise. I won't get bad."

The woodpecker was contented. He 'fluffed' himself up slightly, and eyebrow arching slightly. "I've provided you with a kiss. Not kisses." Not yet. "We could work on that, though."

When his last word left his mouth, Iamels head tilted, lips brushing gently against Xaxis' own. There was a minute hesitation before he leaned in closer, pressing firmer against the others lips. If Xaxis wanted to skirt away, he would. No harm. No foul.

Disinclined
The raven had to grin at Iamel's words - he'd visited Patrick and Catbitche's home a time or two, and had always been quietly amazed by the inner workings. So many children and babies and activity and life. So much stuff, it had always been a bit overwhelming for the raven.

Lucien and him . . . well. . . they didn't have a whole lot of anything. Lucien was a simple man, and the raven had been brought up simply. Xaxis couldn't imagine people running around naked in their apartment.... there wouldn't be enough room!

Snuggling a bit closer, (Iamel had said he could be used!) the black winged man crinkled his nose at the correction, chuckeling softly. "Well then kiss me again," he murmured, violet eyes sparkling with good humor, "Else you'll make a lier out of me."

Ah-HA! There! See?

As Iamel brushed his lips against his own, Xaxis refused to turn away. Oh no. Without people staring at them like they were pieces of meat, he could actually figure out this whole lip-to-lip contact. He leaned closer despite the butterflies in his stomach, assuring Iamel that this was the right thing to do.

Xaxis had never been one to enjoy chemistry or science, but today, tonight, he was gung-ho for experimentation.

The Nozomi
Wouldn't want to make a liar out of him, now would he? Nope nope... Liars were never fun.

When the Raven didn't pull or turn away at the kiss, Iamels hand on Xaxis' arm tightened, just alittle. Xaxis was warm and pretty and kissing him made the little - now big - bird all the more warmer in the faint chill of the evening. His wings flexed slightly, fluttering briefly.

Iamel liked this kissing thing.

His lips parted just a wee bit, giving Xaxis' lower lip a playful bite. His friend was soft and cold... that would do no good, to be cold. So, keeping their lips in contant, Iamel twisted the other Bird and hauled him up, into his own lap. Janglies and all.

Disinclined

Xaxis hadn't expected to be shifted, and paused the kiss as he found himself pulled onto his friends lap. His surprise quickly faded as the jangly raven relaxed and settled.

Well, it was certainly better than sitting on cold metal! Besides, it was chilly out, and now they could keep each other warm. Plopped upon Iamel's lap, the raven extended one of his wings, wrapping it loosely around Iamel in a peace offering. It was only fair - if Xaxis could leech off his friends body heat, he could at least offer some warmth in return.

"Well isn't this cozy," the raven murmured, eyes bright with curiousity and delight. Not giving Iamel much of a time to answer, the raven recaptured the lips he'd momentarily lost, to give the kissing game one more go.

Cozy.
Warm.
Niiiice.

Xaxis could really get used to such friendly attention.

Ah yes - tonight was a good night indeed.

The Nozomi
The darkness became darker with the others wing enveloped them on the little wheel of iron. He grinned a little at the murmur from Xaxis, lips parted and pressing up against him still.

He was warm.
And Iamel LIKED this little game.

It was fun and not boring in the least - he liked that.

Teeth scrape against the ravens lower lip, tri-colored head pulling back with a soft lap. One hand was on Xaxis' back and the other was resting high on the janglie boys thigh.

Iamels fingers on Xaxis' thigh gave a soft squeeze, another kiss being placed on his neck. He saw his Shiniee doing that, before.

Disinclined
Being tall certainly had its benefits. Was this how all tall people were like? There was something pleasant about being this close to a dear friend. The raven didn't think he'd appreciate such gestures from anyone else BESIDES Iamel . . . or Savius. He didn't know Diacyn well enough (and the bald owl seemed too agressive to be much fun) and Rascir . . . well . . . Rascir would have to be all tall too before he could join in on the fun.

As his leg was squeezed and his neck kissed, the raven couldn't help but giggle, a tingle running up his spine. Burying his face sheepishly in Iamel's neck, sure his cheeks were still flushed pink, the raven nibbled amicably upon the woodpecker.

"Guess I'm a little ticklish," he responded, curled up happily upon the lanky woodpeckers lap.

Lucien was going to kill him if he ever found out, or so the raven was certain.

But be that as it may - Lucien wasn't here to find out about this game, now was he?

"So is this what you did with Savius when you met him?" The raven asked, impish smile crossing his pale lips. What a sight that would be!

The Nozomi
Iamel knew Diacyn well enough. But to the woodpecker, the owl was still small. That would not be a Good thing. Nope. The giggle made him grin, laughing softly against the others skin.

Nibblings did not go unappreciated, head tilted. Iamels fingers turned from squeezing to tickling, brushing over the ravens thigh and up t his sides.

"Being ticklish isn't a bad thing," The tri-colored boy assured his friend, nibbling right back with a little laugh.

The others question made him pause and blink a few times. Eh? With Savius? "Nope. Savius and I had some ice cream with our little brothers an' he owes me a piggyback right." A crooked grin at that, nuzzling against his friends little ear. "We didn't kiss. He ruffled my hair though."

Disinclined
The raven squirmed in Iamel's lap as the other boys fingers ran up his leg and sides. So ticklish! So very, very ticklish! He bit back another giggle, tightening his grip on Iamel so he didn't squirm out of his friends lap and onto the ground!

"It's not bad, but it's certainly distracting~!" It was hard to be serious if one was writhing in a fit of giggles and snickers. The raven had never thought of himself as ticklish . . . but then again, he'd never really had the oppurtunity to be touched by another. It felt different, really, and the new sensation made the raven laugh.

He probably just needed to get used to the feeling.

"A piggyback ride?" Two violet eyes looked up at Iamel, surprise flashing through the orbs before changing into delight. "That's something, I guess." Xaxis didn't doubt Savius' ability to pick up Iamel - even though his friend was as tall as himself, Xaxis tried to imagine what the sword-weilding Kestrel looked like.

Big and broad and tall. Had to be. If Iamel was going to get on Savius' back, than the kestrel had to have shoulders to do it! Right? Right!

Maybe he'd give Xaxis a tote around town somewhere too! "We should have a party," the raven announced, wrapped his arms around Iamel's neck and looking his friend firmly in the eye.

Impulsively, he leaned forward and nibbled on Iamel's lip ring, a mischievious grin crossing his fingers. "It would be fun, wouldn't it? All of us tall ones together."

If he was having this much fun with Iamel, how much fun would he have with Savius AND Iamel AND Diacyn. . . well. . maybe Diaycn. Again, Xaxis just didn't feel he knew the snowy owl well enough to be so bold. But since he was Iamel's best-friend, and Iamel had good taste, Xaxis could only assume that the owl was (and would be) good to have around.

The Nozomi
Iamel continued to tickle, fingers light on Xaxis' skin. He was squirming and there was little janglie noises and oh, the fun! He laughed, grinning widely as the other claimed it was distracting and wriggled more.

He wasn't too sure why, but he rather liked the wiggling.

His fingers paused when Xaxis asked about the piggy-back ride, lips curling into another smile, softer then his grin previous. "Mmmhmm. He didn't seem interested in kissing me. So there was a piggy-back ride involved. And Zombie was cute." Another reaffirmation that Zombie was cute with his nod and his arms moved around Xaxi's waist, pulling him closer. With the raen on his lap, Xaxis was taller then before, taller then Iamel.. it amused him.

The nibbling made him smile, head tilting up to kiss him again. Just because he could! "Well, I was thinkin' something like that. I'm really only friends with you and Savius and Diacyn... and we were all 'born' around the same time. Shiniee says people have birthdays, and we're almost a year old. We could have a birthday party for all of us? All four? I'm getting a tree house.. it's gonna be big and we can do it there?"

Disinclined
Xaxis' smile grew wide as Iamel talked about some sort of party, and a tree house, and all sorts of fun goodness. Birthdays? Hadn't Lucien mentioned that a few days ago? Birthday, birthday, birthday . . . Well, whatever the case, if there was going to be a party then Xaxis wanted to be there. So long as his friends were there, since he didn't really care too much for strangers save Kin.

"That sounds perfect!" Oh, a tree house - would that be like a nest? It had to be! Living in the city, the raven hadn't witnessed too many of them, but he'd seen pictures on the internet and had his imagination to fill in the blanks.

"I'm only really friends with you and Savius and . . . and I just haven't had a chance to really talk with Diacyn. But maybe if you have a party, I might get to talk with him." It would be nice - then the raptor squad would be complete. Everyone would really know everyone and really like everyone and life would be swell.

Keeping his arms wrapped around Iamel, burying himself a bit closer as a gust of wind danceda round the two, the raven gave a smile. It was nice to be friends with nice ones like Iamel, and Savius. They were growing, and changing, and everything just felt right. Good company to keep one warm, and good friends to hang out with.

Resting his head on his friends shoulder, the raven stifled a yawn. It was getting late, and the day was catching up with him. Not that Xaxis ever had a terrible amount of energy to spare to begin with. "So how late do you plan on staying out? I fear the night and cold are catching up with me."

.meeting the robin.

Aurora Fiara
A gentle, cool breeze teased a strand of raven black hair into Takai's face as she browsed through one of those outside clothes stands. She couldn't figure out how her new tiny companion somehow managed to convey to her that she needed to go shopping. Nor could she understand why she had -agreed- to it. Sure, she needed clothes and all, but usually her they were bought at some general, anonymous store. But no, as soon as she had opened the door the robin had been off to a very specific place that had been spotted from the air a few days before on one of her morning excursions away from the apartment. Takai, mildly interested, followed the general path the bird had taken grudgingly, assuming that she would alert the woman when she was in the general area.

So, the black-wearing 'hitwoman' found herself standing in front of a small boutique nestled in between a quaint looking bookstore and a coffee shop. She had, surprisingly, picked out a few dark colored sweaters and pants, but a chirp to her right brought her attention away from the soft sweaters and faux fur coats. Her robin was sitting happily atop one of the racks, picking gently at a lavender cashmere sweater.

A curved black eyebrow lifted, and ice blue eyes narrowed slightly. "You're joking, right? You don't seriously think I'm going to wear that, do you?" A few people stared in mild surprise at the woman and her bird shopping, but most had seen much stranger things in this world of theirs, and ignored them.

Disinclined
Xaxis had been out and about, browsing the various shops and stalls in the city. The thin man was determined to find something warm to wear, but something that also was loose and would allow him to jangle. Scarves and skirts weren't cutting it, heat wise, but sweaters just seemed far too bulky to look appealing.

Chances were, though, he'd have to break down and start wearing heavier material. There were some beautiful clothes lined with faux fur (and some not so faux) that could look nice on him. The raven carried with him a few bags, proving that his trip hadn't been a complete disappointement.

Searching through a rack, he stood not far from Takai. He looked . . normal. Ish. He still was draped in scarves, though he wore leggings underneath a his knee long skirt. His top was still nothing more than various scarves tied around appropriate places, with bells adorned to his fingers, wrists, necklaces and ears.

A flash of brown and a friendly chirp had caught Xaxis' attention. A look over to witness a red-breasted robin and some . . . woman. A look longer only proved what he'd first suspected and hoped - Kin!

The robin . . the robin . . . Xaxis tried to remember his carefree days as a raven. Black feathers, black body, his obnoxious "caw". The memories were vague and seemed too surreal to do him any much good. If the Robin and he had ever perched together on the rooftop in the past, the raven had lost such memories thanks to growth and time.

But that didn't mean he couldn't reintroduce himself, now, did it?

"A little colour goes a long way, especially if all you're donned in is black," Xaxis softly responded, studying Takai, then the raven. The lavander was a good choice, and it looked soft and incredibly comfortable. It would look nice on the lady.

Besides, Xaxis DID know about colour. Being shrouded in black most of his life, with black wings, black hair and a helluvalot of black clothes - he'd only recently started to find pleasure in a sprinkling of colour.

His clothes proved that.

((Oh yeah - in case you don't know, the Bird's can communicate with Kin. It's more of a . . .psychic sort of link, so if your Robin wants to talk to Xaxis at all, he'll hear her. n_~ ))

Aurora Fiara
Ice blue eyes rounded slowly and hesitantly on Xaxis as she eyed the... birdboy? She had to fight the smirk that desperately wanted to show itself on her face at that thought. Valiantly she held it back, turning to face both the rack and Xaxis she shrugged her shoulders lightly, still leafing through the clothes. "I imagine it does, but that sweater would never survive at.. er.. work." She frowned a bit, mentally checking to make sure that her usual white trench was buttoned and covering the myriad of pistols hanging around her hips. She eyed Xaxis out of her peripheral vision, mentally taking in his appearance, and a mental eyebrow lifted at all the bells and scarves that he wore around himself. Must be cold.

The robin, completely opposite from Takai's reaction, was delighted to see another Kin! She chirped happily and quickly flew to land on Xaxis' shoulder, careful not to scratch any bare skin with her claws. You look as bad as her apartment. Meaning Takai's apartment. After their little incident Takai had cleaned it as little as she could manage without inciting the robin's... wrath? A gentle beak leaned over to try to pick gently at Xaxis' long locks. So, she was blunt too apparently.

Another brow lofted at the robin from Takai, and the woman shook her head lightly in surprise. Guess the robin felt some kind of.. friendly connection with the birdboy. She didn't think she'd ever figure out that damn bird.

"Guess she likes you. Then again, I don't follow her around the city to see how many shoulders she sits on."

Disinclined
Xaxis didn't respond to Takai's words, at least no initially. He was absolutely delighted to recieve such a positive response from the Bird, and allowed his pale lips to curve into a smile.

The last Bird he'd had perched upon his shoulder had been Savius - and that had been such a very long time ago~! Some of the Birds weren't nearly as excited to see grown Kin as others - some were jealous, some were impatient, and some of them just plum didn't care.

But today was different! Xaxis reached a hand up, carefully extending two of his fingers in an attempt to softly stroke the robin's crimson belly. He'd forgotten how small they all had once been, how soft and covered in feathers.

At the Bird's words, though, Xaxis gave a shy smile. "I suppose that's one way of putting it, though I've never been witness to her apartment. And if it looks as disheveled as me, then perhaps it's best I keep away."

Xaxis always looked a wreck, no matter how hard he tried to "pretty himself" up. His skin always held a yellow, sickly look and the rings under his eyes never completely dissappeared. His feathers were in a constant state of molting, and disease was always present in his system.

Colds, fevers, flues - it was an endless cycle, but a cycle the raven was slowly learning to deal with.

At Takai's comment, Xaxis allowed himself to spare the companion a mild look. So, she had no idea, no clue? It figured. Shanuh didn't seem to like giving away their secrets. So should he. . . ?

Eh, only if she asked.

His look said it all, left him without need to comment. Of course the Robin would like him. They WERE Kin, afterall.

Aurora Fiara
The robin practically cooed lightly at the petting, and she shifted a bit to get comfortable on Xaxis' shoulder, intending to stay there for at least a little while. She watched him out of one eye, a happy look present within those depths to finally find someone that she could talk to. Sure, she could talk all she wanted at Takai, but the woman couldn't understand her, yet.

I'm teaching her to clean it, but she's stubborn. So now we're working on clothes. The robin took on a motherly, almost authoritative mental voice, before she huddled closer into herself when a stiff breeze blew by. Any small amount of cold wasn't going to keep her from enjoying this encounter, however. What's it like? Being so big? It looks clusmy. The robin was excited about growing, but incredibly apprehensive about it as well.

Takai's hands stopped mid-browse when she watched Xaxis talk to her bird. And it wasn't the same kind of talking Takai did. It was almost like...they were having a real conversation. She frowned and sighed, shaking her head gently. "Let me guess, you're some kind of... bird whisperer? Can talk to birds and all that?" The woman found the idea both amusing and absurd, granted her little... friend? was incredibly intelligent. She had already proved that to Takai. But... talking? That was stretching the imagination a tiny bit far, wasn't it?

Disinclined
Xaxis smiled softly at the robin, amused by her ideas of being big. "Well, you won't be getting this big right away, remember. You'll start out much smaller first, like I used to be, much closer to the ground. But you grow to like having feet, and even though bodies are a bit clumsy, they are much more practical."

In a way, Xaxis had forgotten what it was like being a Bird. Oh, sure, he missed feeling the wind through his feathers, soaring high above the world at his own leisure. But, then again, he liked having opposable thumbs, and janglies, and the ability to eat more than insects and road kill. To move on in life, they would have to sacrifice one form for the next.

Xaxis didn't reply to Takai right away, his attention focused only on the robin. When he finally did process what Takai had to say, his violet eyes turned to study her curiously. She really didn't have a clue! Patient, the guardian of disease gave a small sigh and a little shake of his head.

"Actually we're Kin."

It was the most obvious thing in the world as far as Xaxis was concerned. So why Takai was having trouble putting two and two together, the raven wasn't so sure. Yes, he understood that she couldn't "feel" the link between Guardian and Guardian. Yes, he understood she couldn't communicate with the Robin but . . . it still was incredibly difficult for Xaxis to see how she just wasn't putting two-and-two together.

Silly companions.

Strange how they were needed in the first stages of life.

Aurora Fiara
A happy chirp left the robin's beak as she listened to Xaxis talk. It was a good day, it was bright out, there wasn't any rain, and the cold wasn't so bad it was hard for her to bear. People milled around them at the shops, talking to each other and going about their usual business. It was Xaxis' words about having feet and it being more practical that caused her to pause and study the humans around her, then to stare intently at Takai for a moment. That makes sense I suppose. Will I be as... odd as they are? When I start looking like them? And can we still fly when we change? Who are you, anyway? She hadn't asked his name, and for that she was a little embaressed. Not that she thought she'd ever forget all the pretty scarves and bells that he wore all over himself, or the sickly look, but he had to have a name, right?

She paused for a moment and fluttered her feathers a little, her neck turning so her beak could reach her back as she attacked a particularly itchy spot that the wind had irritated.

The robin's companion finally gave up all pretense of actually looking through the clothes and she stared at Xaxis, suspicion written across her face. "You're telling her she's going to... look like you?" Once more another shake of her head and sighed. That's it, the boy was crazy. "That's enough for me for one day, I'm going to go wander into that bookstore. You two have fun." For some reason, her mind wouldn't let her believe that her robin was going to turn into some humoniod. She wasn't at all ready for something like that. Quietly she payed for her purchases and moved away from Xaxis and the bird. Already her denying mind had pushed the thought of the tiny avian turning into something human-like away.

Well. She'll be getting a big surprise sometime, won't she?

Disinclined
Xaxis ignored Takai, not caring one way or another if the ignorant Companion stayed or left. It was neither here nor there, he was enjoying his conversation with the robin and didn't need her silly "chosen" to be present. Shopping forgotten, he decided to take Takai's advice and move some place where they weren't in the way of other customers.

Moving off to a quiet corner, careful not to disturb the Robin's perch, Xaxis found an abandoned seat. There, that would do for the time being - and it would allow him to set down his few packages.

"You will be as you are," Xaxis finally responded to the robin, stealing a mild look at the varying customers. Those who shopped came in all sizes, shapes, colours and backgrounds. Strange that those that they were meant to destroy were also the ones that they became.

Oh well. Maybe Xaxis just didn't care about humanity like some of his friends. To each their own, he supposed. Humans were useful, certainly, but Xaxis instictively knew he was different - and did the raven EVER indulge in those differences!

"As a child, you won't be able to fly, your wings will be much too small. But, they grow as you grow. I don't think we're ever really going to be able to fly again - but who knows? I can't fly," he added, a note of wistfulness entering his voice. Shuffling his wings, he allowed the tangled feathers to flare. It was a sad sight - for as large as they naturally were, their lack of feathers proved them far too flimsy to do Xaxis much good.

Oh well. There were other ways to "fly" without necessarily doing it himself. "My name is Xaxis," he introduced himself cordially to the robin. "I'd ask if you had a name but . . . I don't ever recall having one before we grew. Do you have a name?" It was blunt of him, but the raven was suddenly curious. Maybe he'd been the only one??

Just how he'd discovered his name, the raven suddenly hadn't been sure. Lucien didn't name him, and as a raven Xaxis hadn't ever known himself as anyone other than himself. But as a child - as a child he'd just known that Xaxis was his. It was his and no one else's . . .

Would it be the same with the Robin? He wanted to find out.

Aurora Fiara
The robin watched as Takai wandered over to the bookstore, before she turned her attention back to her new found friend. Mentally she just couldn't get over how -big- he was! She wondered, briefly, if the other Kin were just as big as him? She fluttered her wings to steady her balance as he claimed a seat nearby, and then settled down happily. That's good, I wouldn't want to be anyone other then me. She bobbed her head down, almost sagely. She liked Takai, but the woman sure did need her help! It seemed like she couldn't do anything except kill people, apparently. The Bird had followed Takai one evening, unseen, to see where exactly it was she went every night.

Being the guardian of death by obesity, the violence wasn't exactly up to her taste. She'd returned to the apartment before Takai, and made it look like to her companion that she'd been hanging out on the balcony, making a little soft place to sleep on the fence that kept people from falling off. After all, to the robin the apartment was too disgusting to sleep in, and she'd only go in when it was too cold to sleep outside, or too wet.

She seems forever afraid. Keeps these.. weird shiney things underneath her trenchcoat that hurt people. She didn't know what guns were, but she had witnessed them in action first hand, even if from far away. They're noisy.

She seemed to shrug her shoulders, before turning the conversation back to getting bigger. She wouldn't be able to fly anymore? Well, that's certainly daunting, but all the others got by she imagined, so she would be able to as well.

Too bad about your wings. I'd offer to try to help, but not sure what I could do. Another little bird-like shrug, which mostly consisted of her head dipping down further then normal. Are all the others as big as you?

She seemed to frown internally at his next question, her little head twitching slightly as she contemplated. Name? She didn't have a name, nor did she think she needed one, she was, after all, just herself. I don't think I have a name. Takai hasn't given me one.

Disinclined
The raven listened intently to what the Robin had to say, though his eyes studied the oblivious shoppers. Humans were a funny thing to watch, really, though Xaxis much preferred to look on from a distance than interract with them much himself.

As the Robin spoke about her Companion, Xaxis couldn't help but wonder about a human's mindset. They were interesting to watch, curious to investigate, and overall did the damndest things. Like Takai - apparantly the woman allowed her life to be driven by fear. Whyever would she do that. . . ? What could she possibly be afraid of? Pain? Getting hurt? Pain was only temporary, it never lasted forever. Death? Was she afraid of the eternal rest? That was sillly too - death claimed everything and none could escape it. It wasn't evil, it didn't hurt, it just . . .was. The sooner one accepted their fate, the sooner they needn't worry about it. Besides, with the Robin as her Guardian, there was no need to fear about dying. Companions couldn't die, as far as Xaxis was certain.

So what was there to be afraid of?

Oh dear, silly, silly people and their silly, silly lives.

"No need to fret or concern yourself over these," he gave a little nod to his tangled feathers. "I have a good friend who helps me out when I need it, though I appreciate the offer." Perhaps he could let her help him preen her wings when she grew if she still offered. Another problem with human skin - it was far too stiff to be able to reach certain areas, such as their wings.

As the robin continued to question, Xaxis gave a little laugh. "Some of them are. The children are still much shorter and closer to the ground, like you'll be when you grow. And then, after some time, you'll grow again and be tall like me.

"Height is just a sign of being human, I guess, to become tall, big, and awkward."

Aurora Fiara
The robin tilted her head to one side as she listened to Xaxis, following his line of sight for a bit before she finally settled to watch Takai in the window of the bookshop, browsing the isles and picking up a few books here and there to read. Good that someone helps you. She nodded her head, satisfied. And as though she could feel her own wings itching just by looking at his, she preened herself for a moment before turning back to once more stare at Takai.

What does growing feel like, anyway? And, well, at least I'll be able to keep her apartment clean when I grow, right? She chirped gently, her eyes catching site of a spider crawling nearby. She hopped away from Xaxis for a moment to scoop it up in her beak, swallowing quickly.

Height was a sign of being human? That.. made some kind of weird sense. Humans were tall, so the taller they became the more human they became? She shrugged to herself, it was too much to think about and worry about right now. She'd worry when she got there right?

Disinclined
The bird gave a gentle smile, eyes light with good humor at the Robin's words. Had he been so curious about the world before his growth? The black-feathered bird reminisced, but for a moment. As a raven he hadn't the oppurtunity to speak with others, those odler and mature.

He could speak with Shanuh, and his other kin, but at the point in time . . . there had been no one to chat with. They had been the first, they had been the pioneers of the living.

Xaxis couldn't help but be pleased. Did that make them more important than the others? No, not really, but did make their lives a smidge different. At least the robin would know what was happening to her, and why. At least she had others to learn from which in turn would make her greater. . . . in a twisted sort of sense.

Whatever the case, the raven quickly broke off his train of thought. "Growing feels like a lot of different things. I don't really remember going from a bird to a child - I don't remember that at all. It just . .. happened.

"But when I got taller, like I am now, it hurt. I got really sick, much more ill than I usually am, and I felt as if I were being stretched out, twisted." In a sense, he really had been. Going from three feet six in a matter of moments hurt. It wasn't a natural thing, and it was an experience Xaxis didn't look forward to. Thankfully it was over and long passed. "It was quite unpleasant."

Xaxis watched the people fidget around them, intent only on their own lives and the materials they wished to posess. Strange people, really. Xaxis had no interest to be a part of them or their society. The raven was much more partial and biased towards kin.

A few moments passed, before Xaxis decided he'd best get back to his window shopping. Careful, ever so gently, the winged boy rose from his chair. Much better. He'd felt cramped, his large, gangly wings not having anywhere to go within the confines of the furniture. Standing, he could at least stretch them out.

"Well, robin - not to cut our conversation short but I'm feeling a bit congested and think it's about time I finish my browsing." It was the truth. Besides desiring to finish shopping for scarves, the boy could tell his health was slowly starting to deteriorate. He'd been sick for so long, he just knew that the little scratch in his throat and the pain in his head would only progress and get worse and worse.

The boy much preferred to be home to deal with his disease.

Aurora Fiara
With a flick of her head, the little Robin quietly listened to everything that Xaxis had to tell her, her body shivering a little at the thought of growing being painful. But she had time before that happened, right? After all, she had to go from a bird to a small human-like thing before it got painful. At least she hoped so, that was the impression she got from Xaxis anyway. Sounds like lots of fun. Was muttered into Xaxis' head, each word practically oozing sarcasm. Still, she fluttered happily, unwilling to worry about things that didn't need worrying about just yet.

Idly she noticed Takai head out of the bookstore, glance their way once, before shrugging her shoulders and making her way back towards the apartment, a few bags in hand from the various places she and the robin had visited. Not too long after Xaxis stood and made clear his desire to continue on and the little bird chirped cheerfully at her kin. Maybe the next time we meet I'll be able to do human things, like walk and talk! And hopefully you'll start feeling better soon. If she could smile at him, she would. But for the moment all she could do utter a few warm sounds towards him and offer a slight bow of her head. Guess I better head after Takai and see if I can get her to clean some more. Until next time!

With a flap of her wings, she lifted into the air, circling Xaxis once before she turned and took off after her companion, determined to get the woman to listen to her somehow and start taking better care of herself and her surroundings.

.ice skating is NOT very fun.

Ladyumbra
Well it's not exactly flying, Riycan thought, but gliding sort of maybe skimming above the ground. Out on the ice of the local skating rink Riycan attempted to further his skating skills or rather bring them to a level where he was tripping every forty five seconds or so. Blue and yellow wings spread wide he move with the greates of care across the slippery surface.

He was alone today his sister having opted against the extra practise. It made it easier and harder at the same time, easier as he wasn't trying to base his own movements of hers ( which considering their hugely different heights and body structures worked horridly) still it was also harder becuase it seemed like everyone else out on the ice today was experienced and they made him look pathetic.

Disinclined
Xaxis looked dimsally around the rink, feeling absolutely wretched in the cold. Why ever Lucien had needed to come here, the raven wasn't entirely sure.

"I told you to bring a sweater," Lucien commented, shimmying off his own jacket to offer it to his . . . son. "Here's your shoes - just be careful." For all his grumpiness, Lucien did care about Xaxis, and always worried about the sickly raven. Even if the raven was now taller than himself!

Xaxis took the jacket which was much too large in the shoulders, but far too short in the waist. "You didn't tell me this place would be cold," it was almost a whine, a pathetic sound coming from such a pretty Guardian.

He'd never been to an ice rink, and had wanted to see what it entailed. He'd thought something wonderful - ice was cold, sure, but it was also beautiful. The raven had imagined someting entirely different. Instead of ice sculptures, there was nothing but an ice floor.

Lucien shrugged his shoulders, giving Xaxis a sidelong look. "I'm gonna be a bit, shouldn't be too long though. If you need me, I'll be by the concession stand, I know the guy who works it." Giving Xaxis an encouraging pat on the back, he headed up the stairs of the rink, calling out as he left, "Go skate, Xaxis! You might enjoy it."

Xaxis watched Lucien disappear up the steps, and looked sullently at the floor. Despite the cold, he was attracted to the people whizzing by. They looked like dancers, gliding ever so gracefully around the floor. Some slow, some fast - wow - those who picked up speed could almost be flying.

A tug at his heartstrings. Oh how the raven missed those days.

"Doesn't look that hard," the Guardian of Disease talked himself into actually lacing up the skates. They were cold and uncomfortable and it was so strange to walk on them~!

Hobbling over to the entrance of the floor, Xaxis lookd up just in time to see - - KIN!

But . . .who was that? The green and yellow wings were unfamiliar, and Xaxis had trouble putting together the feeling. Must be someone new~! Seeing the boy slowly skate past, the raven fluttered his wings. "Hey! Wait up!" He crowed, eyes light with the joy of finding Kin.

Of course, the raven also forgot that he wasn't on ground. Trying to jog after, Xaxis took two steps before his feet slipped out from under him and he fell flat on his a**.

Starteled and embarressed, the raven's expression was a mixture of shock and horror. He fell~! Oooh . . . And the ice was so cold!!!

ladyumbra
Riycan having seen someone calling to him out of the corner of his eye slowed down, when the person failed to catch up he carefully turned himself around only to see that whoever this boy was, had fallen. Ah well at least he wasn't the only bad skater here.

Fighting the flow of the skaters all headed in the opposite direction Riycan glided over to the fallen one. The older boy gave off a strange sort of energy that peaked his interest not quite the same or as strong as special plants did but worth investigating none the less.

" Hey there I'm Riycan who are you? Why did you want to talk to me? Oh and becarefull when you fall becase if you fall face first and your lips touch the ice they can get stuck there." He chattered cheerily to this stranger.

Disinclined
Xaxis was thoroughly embarressed. His cheeks, at first flushed pink with cold, were now burning bright red from shame. Here he'd fallen, face first, in front of everyone.

Ugh. Why had he even bothered to try this skating thing? Even the boy who skated over to him seemed to have better balance than Xaxis. And the fall had hurt. The Bird just knew that he was going to wind up with a bruise on his tail bone by the end of the night.

But pride got in the way, and the thin Bird wasn't going to give up that easily. Looking up at Riycan, he offered out his hands, hoping to get some help up. Xaxis didn't trust the ice, anymore, and more importantly didn't trust his feet~!

"I'm Xaxis," he explained, taking a moment to thoroughly study the chit-chatty boy. His lips would get stuck? Well, Xaxis had no intention of getting stuck to the cold ice! Just let the ice try and he'd . . he'd . . . well, there wasn't a whole lot of diseases that Xaxis could cast on ice but the ice wouldn't be alive for long if the raven had HIS way about it.

"And I"ll be sure to be careful," he promised, black wings twitching in irritation. He was cold, he hurt, and was humiliated within the first five seconds of hitting the ice. Today was going to be a great day, wasn't it?

ladyumbra
Carefully but swiftly Riycan hauled the older boy up. He wobbled himself for a second after he let go but managed to maintain his balance. He was thankful to his teacher drilling basic standing balance into him in his first four lessons. " If you can't stay upright being still you can't hope to stay upright moving" was her motto.

"Xaxis eh? That's a neat name, I bet no one has problem saying your name in school." He grumbled. He couldn't count the amount of times he'd had to correct teachers, librarians and secretaries.

"Oh and look at that girl she can really skate, I want to be like her someday" he said pointing to a tall thin teen who managed to find enough space to jump land and sit down spinning on one foot. " That's a double toe loop I think followed by a sit spin." Riycan's voice was filled with awe. " I can't even skate backwards yet nevermind do stuff like that."

Someday though, he though, someday I'll fly across the ice and through the frozen air.

Xaxis did manage to stay on his feet . . . sort of. He wobbled every now and then, but so long as he didn't make any dramatic movements or gestures, he was fine.

Xaxis had to admit, he was impressed with the skill and talant surrounding him. Even those who didn't show off like the girl Riycan was gaping at, were still in a much better position than the raven. Then again, many of the people didn't have huge, molting wings to have to keep still either.

The raven glance sidelong at Riycan, curious about this school-thing he chatted about. School? The only school Xaxis had ever been at was the Birdcage, and Shanuh's lessons. Sure, he knew other kids went to other places, but he'd never heard of kin going to those establishments.

Hmmm.

Maybe this one was . . .weird. Different. Unexposed.

"It's very nice," Xaxis agreed softly, his attention more on the green jay then anything else. "So how come I haven't seen you around the shop?" Having lived his life at the Birdcage, Xaxis couldn't understand why he'd never met Riycan before. It seemed like ALL the Guardians were attracted to the shop, or at the very least were attracted to one another. Maybe this one met some of the other Guardians? He'd have to ask. Later.

Riycan pondered Xaxis's question why hadn't he ever gone back? He'd never felt a pull really never needed to. He had his mother and his brothers and sister and they kept him happy enough. Still now that he thought about it was probably strange that he'd never even visited after changing.

" I don't know really, I guess I've just always been busy or something" He frowned at this. "I guess I should go sometimes though and see people, cept strangers aren't really that nice a lot and last time I met anyone like me they tried to hurt mork." Riycan still remembered that day rather well when his fallign plush friend had been attacked by a stick weilding boy who was rather agressive. The other chatty hyper one hadn't been too bad but he'd known the agressive boy and he'd wandered off feeling left out.

In the end Riycan often foudn it easier to spend time mainly with his siblings who were understanding and trustworthy.

Disinclined
Xaxis glanced down at the boy, doing his best to keep still and not go falling flat on his face again. It was easier said than done, but thankfully the raven managed. Sort of.

As Riycan talked about Mork (Xaxis hadn't a clue who or what that was - a sibling perhaps?) he felt a strange detachment of feeling. There were some who seemed to have more violent tendencies, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

Sometimes death needed people to be agressive. Even Xaxis had a temper when his patience was tested. Part of him wondered if Riycan had ever met the colourful boy, Rascir. Rascir was the least harmful Bird in the group, and had different views when it came to life and death.

Maybe the two could get along if they met, considering staying away from The Birdcage (to Xaxis at least) was a freakish thing to do.

But, to each their own.

"Well, perhaps if you visited more often, the strangers would become your friends. There are others now, who don't know any. And there's always Shanuh and the others at the shop. Maybe you should give it a try, come visit again. You never know what may happen or who you may run into."

It would be nice to see others at the shop. They were all Kin, no matter how different their opinions, personalities and views ranged, and that meant they should all be together. It was only natural - to have this green jay stay away from the group would only further ostracize the Bird.

Better to get him to come back now then leave him to his own devices.

Riycan nodded " I will I'll drag mom there and maybe Tode, Tode got his snake there you know, a really pretty python , he's never been there but mom bought the snake there when she wanted to buy me except well I wasn't there."

Letting his attention drift for a momement Riycan watched another skater go by and then he tried to copy them. Succeeding he slid back a few feet." Ha I can skate backwards now now Tiwaz has to catch up with me."

It occured to him a moment later then that Xaxis didn't seem all that happy on the ice. " Um too much practise is bad for the ankles you know do you want to maybe get a hot choclate and talk or something." Riycan sighed inwardly he had nop experince in stuff like this, he'd met his siblings friends before but never really talked with any of them and his siblings were his friends. This whole talking to strangers thing was confusing.

Disinclined
Xaxis gave a little nod at Riycan's words, before his feet decided that the motion (no matter how slight) was enough to cause his feet to start slipping.

Xaxis immediately spread wide his wings, giving the awkward things a few flaps as he tried to regain his balance. It wasn't easy and he wound up twisted in an awkard angle, but he didn't fall.

"Getting off the ice sounds wonderful," the bird agreed. He clung onto Lucien's jacket and kept his wings spread wide as if they could save him. No, the only protection they offered was a little extra warmth and padding.

Xaxis didn't like the cold, and he most certainly didn't like the ice. Without waiting for the jay, Xaxis made his way ever so carefully to the edge of the rink, glowering at a few adept skaters that passed. As if they couldn't skate around him, oh no, they had to skate in FRONT of the beginner.

Bastards. All of them.

It took awhile, but the black raven finally made it off the ice. Skating on ice was bad, and walking on blades was even worse. Flopping down in the first row of seats, the raven decided the shoes were coming off and never going on again.

No matter what science and physics and technology and fashion could bring a person, birds weren't meant to walk on ice.

Riycan took his time making it off the ice not wanting to insult his new friend by beating him to solid land. Besides every bit of extra time out on the ice was worthwhile for him though he could understand how some may not view it that way.

Once he'd caught up to Xaxis and begun unlacing his skates he grinned " I think hot chocolate with extra marshmallows is in order, oh and chips even though they aren't warn or maybe a hot dog or something, food is always good." Mind no longer occupied by skating Riycan was ready to move on to new things, however his mind was latched rather firmly onto the idea of eating.

" If you live at the shop and you see lots of us do you know how many of us there are?" The earlier conversation now had Riycan curious about his kin.

Disinclined
Unlacing his skates, the raven was relieved to be off the wretched ice. The rink was an entirely unpleasant place; it smelled of sweat, smoke and cold, was far too crowded with far too many stairs, and doing anything on the ice caused one to slip and loose their footing.

No, no, Xaxis did not care to be at this place and could only hope Lucien would be finished with his "errand" soon. For now though, the black Bird thought it best to accompany Riycan. He seemed to rule the roost when it came to skating. Maybe Diacyn could appreciate this world, but surely not the raven.

"Food tends to be appetizing," Xaxis agreed in his distant, detached sort of manner. Hot chocolate? Eh, the liquid sounded least appealing. Chocolate was incredibly rich, and he'd had some bad experiences with that sort of food. But he'd give it a try again, or maybe see if they offered tea. A place like this, though, he highly doubted it.

Hot dogs and chips weren't bad, especially when he had a chance to try more than just leftovers or the molding discarded waste of humanity. It tasted like crap compared to squirrel and other such roadkill, but it could be satisfying in its own right.

Glancing at the green jay, the raven thought about it. How many were there? "Well, there are a lot. There's Savius and Iamel, my best friends. Diacyn grew with all of us, Rascir I'm not sure about. I met a Robin the other day, and there's the Hummingbird and Cardinal. There was another one of us, a bit of an extremist, but he's . . . not with us anymore." Xaxis still didn't understand entirely what happened with Darzavien.

All he remembered was Shanuh getting mad and being very, very angry over something. The kite had disappeared or . . . something peculiar as such.

Oh well. Who was Disease to worry?

"There are others, I think, but those are the ones I know best."

.the beginnings of a revelation.

Xaxis studied his . . .brother . . .with a detached sort of interest. The cat-boy, though he wasn othing more than artificial intelligence, was currently chasing his tail on the raven's bed. His little ars occassionally twitched at the muted noises around the room and apartment complex - a car horn outside, a twittering bird, the sound of Lucien tinkering in the kitchen.

Xaxis was pleased that they had a small one - but Vence wasn't at all like a sibling. Not like Iamel, at least. There was no real bond between them, no inkling off affection or joy. Iamel reacted differently around his siblings than Xaxis did around Vence. As much as he wanted siblings to call his own, there was something that was missing. Something that made Iamel different than Xaxis, some strange emotion that was rarely present.

If Xaxis could understand the emotion - the art of caring - than perhaps he could have realized its absense. Iamel, his wood pecker friend, was devoted to his family. In fact, the brightly coloured teen with wings was still devoted to Patrick, his companion, his chosen. Even Lithle had some sort of . . attachment to Savius, and vice-versa.

But Xaxis, the ever aloof raven, couldn't say he held any feeling towards Lucien besides use. Lucien was a study case to the raven, a being that had drawn his attention long enough for the Bird to be considered useful. Instinct and Fate had whispered to him, a need to be looked after, taught, cared for in his young and frail child stage. Even as a sick child, their bond had been frail and seemingly temporary.

Now with age, intelligence, and power Lucien was nothing more than a tool. A tool that would be fully utelized later. He kept a roof over his head, made Xaxis' life easy and simpler. If Lucien were to leave, would Xaxis weep?

No. Xaxis couldn't weep for him. It would be nothing but a waste of energy.

His feelings towards Vence leaned the same way. The sparkle and glory of another one around the house had long since warn off. The little cat creature, his brother, did his own thing and went his own way. Xaxis liked him well enough, he found him cute on more than one occassion, but again - there was nothing but use in him.

The creature could be good to study and possibly manipulate. Did AI get sick? Perhaps. Just how far did his powers truly reach? Could they destroy more than humanity? As Guardians of Death, could they not destroy everything?

Where were the star destroyers, the supernovas? Where were the Guardians of Deforestation and Logging, to rip down the trees? Other things died besides humanity: plants, animals, planets, galaxies, even Death itself would die.

Right?

Oh - there was so much to study! Could Diacyn cause a frost to destroy a garden? Could Iamel blow up a mountain? The chaos that lingered and lurked within their grasp was immense. . . wasn't it?

Xaxis turned away from Vence, turning to look out the dirty window down in to the streets below.

If they had that much power, than why weren't they learning how to use it? If they were meant to destroy, then where was the destruction?

Xaxis, for all his years, wanted to hunt. Wanted to practice, to learn. Maybe Savius would be up for some real hunting today. And if not, Xaxis had no qualms about going solo.

Grabbing nothing but his jacket, the jangling winged one left his room.

Lucien looked up as Xaxis made a bee line for the door. "Dinner will be ready soon," he explained, glancing down at the boiling pot of macaroni.

"I'll be back later." He'd eat what was left, if he decided to eat at all. Slipping out the door, he missed the look of disappointment that crossed his companions face.

. . . . "Be careful." Looked like it was dinner for one tonight.
