Toby flipped a few pages of an ancient book sitting on top of the pile while he absently scanned the words and pictures amongst the yellowing paper. With his free hand he stroked the smooth brown scales on the back of his young dragon's back. She was bored of his research and chose to show him so by napping on half of his notes. The young man let out a short yawn and reached for a pencil to scrawl out a few notes on his parchment then continued flipping through pages.

The day was nearing to an end, and the candles were growing dimmer within the library walls. Toby had filled several pages with increasingly illegible writing and he was beginning to nod off. Setting down his pencil he leaned over his study table and rested his head against the small dragon's belly as it still lay resting. I'll only rest my eyes for a few moments then get back to work...

The shuffling noises of the librarian walking between the bookshelves and the bright sun shining through the windows woke Toby up gently. Despite the calmness of the late morning Toby jumped up and scrambled to gather his papers, checking to make sure they were all in order and none missing. Lana stirred slightly at all the noise her guardian was making and was quickly nudged awake. She let out a low growl in Toby's direction but realized that he was paranoid after leaving all his notes in the open while they slept so she got up without too much fuss. After all his papers were secure in his bag, Toby slung it over his shoulder and piled the books up to return to the nearest shelf.
Quietly trying to avoid the librarian the two nearly jogged up the stairs and out the front door of the library. "Back home then I guess," Toby said to his dragon as they began walking down the stone road.
